5 The NAIDOC dinner and movie evening was held last week and about 40 people enjoyed the new NAIDOC garden area. The fire was lit and we all chilled until the BBQ was fired up. We enjoyed kangaroo meat burgers and sausage sandwiches, emu egg quiche and custard tart. The evening ended in the library watching a movie, with some good belly laughs to end a great day. We would like to thank Paula Bateman for preparing the kangaroo mince meat, well seasoned with Paula s herbs and spices and thank you to Paul Jackson for cooking the BBQ for us. We would also like to thank Mr and Mrs Adams for the food preparation and cooking of the delicious quiche and custard tarts made from emu eggs. We are pleased that everyone was able to come together and enjoy the evening that Ms Parr, Ms Bellamy and Ms Maher organised to help celebrate this year s NAIDOC Week.
6 Our celebration of NAIDOC on Friday 17 th began with our Indigenous students, trying for the first time, to carve emu eggs. It was more technical then anticipated and our efforts were met with varying degrees of success. After recess, Billy Kennedy spoke Welcome to Country in Wiradjuri, doing a fantastic job. All students then split into smaller groups to engage in arts, crafts and Wiradjuri language learning. The afternoon was spent on the oval where traditional Aboriginal games were played.
7 Primary Zone Athletics Last week 12 students represented Hillston Central School at Zone Athletics in Griffith. All students tried their very best and were proud of their efforts. Congratulations to the following students on their sportsmanship and behaviour on the day. Hamish Bourke, Harrison Bartholomew, Summer Wenborn, Breanna Bartholomew, Kayden Dauth, Maddison Burgess, Jessie MacDonald, David Taylor, Wade MacDonald, Kaitlyn Rixon, Emily Tallon and Lily Cheatley. A big thankyou to those parents that came along Phil, Merv, Maricar, Jodie and Lyn. Having extra help on the day is very much appreciated. Mrs Nicole Burgess Primary Sports Coorrdinator
8 Secondary Sports RAP 15/U BOYS BASKETBALL On Friday 17 th August the RAP 15/U Boys team travelled to Leeton to take part in the CHS Knockout Gala Day. In the first game the boys took on Leeton who had a very experienced team. Our boys took a while to find their rhythm and Leeton got off to a great start. Blake played strongly at point guard leading the way in attack and defence. Charlie and Tait shared in the rebounds in both attack and defence. In the end RAP went down Our next game was against Griffith and the boys were able to work together more effectively. Sapan and Jarrod combined better with Tait and Charlie in defence in the key. Connor and Blake were great on the fast breaks supporting each other. In the third quarter we were able to control our attack and be more patient seeing us win the quarter Unfortunately, that wasn t enough and the boys went down A huge thank you to Jack McCormack for umpiring on the day, he was praised by all coaches for his fairness and control. RAP 15/U GIRLS BASKETBALL On Wednesday 15 th August RAP participated in the annual 15/U Girls Basketball Gala Day in Narrandera. Our girls took on Temora in the first round with Temora getting off to a great start. RAP took a little time to find their defence in the first quarter however once they worked as a team the game became more competitive. Paige lead the way on the score sheet with Charlotte. In the end the girls went down In the next game we took on Griffith High after some time off between match where we were able to practice our lay ups and defence. This proved valuable with all the girls making lay ups during the game and looking much more organised and confidence in defence. The whole team contributed towards the score with Paige, Mel and Charlotte being the top scorers. Ebony, Paige and Jane defended really well chasing the ball and applying pressure. RAP played extremely well as a team winning Our last game was against Narrandera who had heard Charlotte wasn t keen on all the Narrandera spectators so they made her a special sign. Our games against Narrandera have always been close and played in good spirits over the years and this game was no different. The score remained close for the entire game. Our baseline defence of Charlotte, Kindra and Mel worked together to shut down attacking raid and really improved the number of rebounds they had in attack. This saw Mel increase her scoring based off her rebounds. Paige and Jane continued to hassle and chase the ball relentlessly in defence. In the end we just fell short losing The whole team should be very proud of the improvement they made throughout the day and the great sportsmanship they displayed.
