1 The Newsletter of Ariah Park Central School Week 6B Term 1 Monday,5 th March 2018 CHS Zone Swimming Team Tomorrow we have Steph Cooke MP for Cootamundra visiting our school to take a look at some of the great initiatives we have in the school. Steph presented our school with the Temora Australia Day 'Event of the Year' award last month and from that she was keen to see more. We are very pleased to have her visit and I know she will be impressed by what we have to offer. and we look forward to showing everyone what the program has achieved. In sport we have the Riverina Secondary Swimming Carnival running at Leeton. Good luck to all our students competing and I know you will have a great day out. On Friday we have the RAP Open Girls Cricket being held at Leeton also. Justin Dunn Principal Last weeks whole school assembly went well and congratulations to Bronte Ingram being awarded student of the month. I hope our Kindergarten students enjoyed their first assembly as much as I did and I am looking forward to showing them more about bubbles over the next week. Next week we have Nine News coming to film a news segment on the Barking Dogs. The program has developed a lot of attention after the Landline segment

3 Congratulations to Bronte Ingram, who was selected as the first APCS Student of the Month for Bronte was awarded with a certificate and the Perpetual Trophy. Bronte s certificate cited the following: - 100% Application across all Key Learning Areas - Regularly participates in classroom discussions - Excellent academic results - A helpful classroom member - Polite and well mannered - Kind to others - Dedication and determination when representing at the PSSA Swimming Carnival Congratulations Bronte! APCS Staff Whole School Assembly Last Friday saw our first Whole School Assembly for 2018, with the following items presented: Staff Awards Joe Furphy, Jaydeep Sandhu, Georgia Maxwell and Sophie Dart. These students will have previously received four merit awards. Rafferty Edis also received a Staff Award, Raff has previously been presented with at least six merits. Congratulations to Rafferty, Joe, Jaydeep, Georgia and Sophie.

5 Immunisation A reminder Years 7, 10 and 11 will be having their scheduled vaccination next Tuesday 13 th March. Behind the News Each Thursday Year 5/6 watch an episode of the ABC program, Behind The News. This program is a selection of reports from news and current affairs that are happening in Australia and the World in a fun and easy to understand way. Mrs Jenkins Stage 5 Automotive, Food Tech, IT Metals Next Week - Week 7 Stage 4 Industrial Tech PSSA Riverina Swimming Training PSSA Riverina swimmers will have been issued with a permission note today about travelling into the 50m pool in Temora on Wednesday afternoon during periods 5 and 6 with Miss Horne and Mrs Jenkins. If parents are happy for students to miss class in this time and have a training session, please return the notes tomorrow or Wednesday. Miss Horne

6 CHS Regional Swimming Carnival APCS Secondary students will be participating in the Riverina Swimming Carnival in Leeton tomorrow. Good luck to the following students: Brooke Denyer, Charlie McCormack, Hayley Writer, Steph Derrick, Jack McCormack and Shelby Worland. Congratulations on your achievement this far and have fun tomorrow. Miss Horne RAP Boys Cricket CHS Knockout 2018 On Tuesday the 27 th of February, the 2018 RAP Boys Cricket team travelled to Narranderra to compete in the CHS knockout. The team consisted of Connor Widdup (LCS), Brayden Martin (OCS), Kokulan Kandeepan (BCS), Mitchell Doyle (APCS), Blair McLean (APCS), Jayden Woodward (ACS), Charlie McCormack (APCS), Blake Smith (APCS), Tom Denyer (APCS), Tom Frost (APCS), Angus Randall (HCS) and the 12 th man was Tom O Dwyer (APCS) who assisted by scoring on the day. In the first match we were to play a strong and well prepared Leeton team. Our captain Mitchell Doyle was confident heading into the toss that he would get us bowling first. However, things didn t go to plan and Mitchell spent some time explaining that he did not lose the toss, instead came second and that we were sent into bat. Mitchell and Kokulan opened in the batting and with a few big swings and even more misses, our top order fell very quickly. Kokulan managed to outsmart the skilled Leeton bowlers and became our most consistent batter in the first match. The boys decided if they could bowl us out for a total of 56 that we could do the same. This plan started off well, with a couple of strong overs from Connor and Mitchell. Kokulan and Angus also managed to showcase their bowling skills but the boys were unable to stop the Leeton outfit. In the second match, the boys were ready to show off their skills and feeling confident when preparing to take on Narranderra High School. This time Mitchell came first in the toss and the boys bowled first. The team worked exceptionally well this time and managed to display some high level skills. Connor and Blair opened the bowling with some very close calls going in the favour of the home team. Blair delivered some excellent bowls and was unlucky not to get a wicket. This didn t deter the boys and the first wicket was quick to fall when Kokulan went into bowl. Brayden was able to send down some quick balls to the older boys and managed to keep the runs to a minimum. Charlie was also consistent in his bowling and some careful fielding saw Tom Denyer take a catch for the second wicket. Tom Frost, Blake and Angus worked well in the field to support the bowlers. Jayden s bowling assisted in keeping the run rate low and had the RAP boys looking good heading into the second half of the overs. Tom Denyer came in for a bowl and the team were quick to get a run out. The very next ball Tom managed to bowl the new batter middle stump. This was the last ball of the 10 th over and with that the boys had bowled Narranderra out for 53 runs. Given the impressive fielding they had pulled together all of the boys were keen to get in and bat during the second

7 game. Mitchell opened and in just 6 balls was able to make a massive 30 runs before being caught out. This put the team in a brilliant position. Jayden and Blair continued in the batting and with a few more sixes from Blair and some consistent batting from Jayden, the boys had managed to run down the Narranderra team in 5 very quick overs. Particular mention must go to Charlie, Tom Frost and Kokulan who volunteered themselves to field for Narranderra when some players had to leave. It was an outstanding display of sportsmanship and one I hope to continue to see in RAP sport in the future. There was definitely no bias from the boys with Charlie putting in one of the biggest appeals to the umpire when a decision was pending over a LBW on Jayden. I would also like to thank Tom O Dwyer for his assistance in scoring. I would like to congratulate all of the boys on their conduct on the day. Well done and thanks for a fun day. Miss Horne
