EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT Office of the Principal 24 High School Drive Egg Harbor Township, NJ Phone: X1601 Fax: Terry Charlton Principal WEEKLY UPDATE September 15, 2017 From the desk of the Principal: The character education word of the month is DEDICATE STUDENTS OF THE WEEK Student: Will Worth Nominated by: Mr. Carmichael Will showed a lot of character when he randomly spotted a razorblade resting on the top of the fire alarm. Will grabbed the razor and immediately brought it to the first staff member he saw in the hallway. Will showed integrity and strong morals by turning in the razor and making sure no one got hurt. Student: Felix Rivera Nominated by: Mrs. Butrus Felix was very helpful during the fire drill on Tuesday, September 12, He offered to help push my wheelchair student out of the building and while exiting helped me to hold the doors open for this student. Felix has been helpful and cooperative during the drill.
What a great opening for our school year! The freshman are all finding their classes, we had four great Renaissance assemblies for each of the grade levels, and Back-to-School Night was a great opportunity to partner with parents and get everyone on the same page as we move forward. Parents were able to register themselves to offer personal expertise that will augment our curriculum. Our Senior Ambassadors were out in force helping parents navigate the building and the flower arrangements at the main entrance were beautiful (thanks Mrs. Butrus!). The School Store was buzzing all night with Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Zitto and our student entrepreneurs bringing in gross sales of $3,488 (a BTSN record!) It was good to see alumni of all ages visiting the school and having a positive community vibe throughout the whole night. Thanks as always to our maintenance and custodial staff for making the building sparkle.

Congratulations to Mr. Martirone who was featured in an Education Week article on the topic of using podcasts in the classroom: w_to_use_podcasts_in_the_classroom.html Olympic Studios will be taking yearbook pictures during Physical Education classes next week. Freshmen will have their pictures taken on Monday, September 18, sophomores on Tuesday, September 19 and juniors on Wednesday, September 20. Any student whose Physical Education class did not meet on their designated day will have their pictures taken on Friday, September 22 and any student who was absent on their designated day will have pictures taken on Monday, September 25. The Class of 2018 senior photo will take place during 2 nd block on Friday, September 29. Congratulations to EHTHS alumnus Kaitlyn Schoeffel who finished as the 2 nd runner up in the 2017 Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City this past weekend! Kaitlyn has been working with the district in her capacity as Miss New Jersey and has made everyone in the township proud. See picture below submitted by Mrs. Rice of Kaitlyn assisting with the Interact Club s Jeans for Teens last Spring.
From Mrs. Makos: This past Saturday, the EHTHS Silver Eagle Marching Band hosted a Tournament of Bands Competition on our home turf. The band boosters hosted four visiting bands from Southern Regional HS, Barnegat HS, Jefferson Twp. HS, and Woodbury HS and the competition went off without a hitch. While EHTHS's marching band was in exhibition, they performed a fantastic first half of their program and will spend the next few weeks learning the second half. GO EHT! From Mr. Swift: The following students attended PennApps (University of Pennsylvania's Hackathon) Sept 8th- 10th. Jaysson Solano Christian Kline Nicholas Michelette James Vu Josh Sennett
As described on the university website: In the context of a hackathon, the word "hack" is used to describe how multiple technologies can be used together in a new and innovative way. Teams of up to four people spend the weekend working on innovative software and hardware solutions to real-world problems. These projects range in platform and application, including elements of web development, mobile applications, drones, and more. However, many times the most important aspect of a hackathon is the community it generates and skills that inexperienced hackers walk away with. Have a great weekend! 7 ATHLETICS WEEKLY GAME/SCORE REPORT Mr. Michael J. Pellegrino Supervisor of Athletics and Activities Telephone: (609) Fax: (609) WEEKLY GAME/SCORE REPORT SPORT/OPPONENT/LOCATION/DATE Cross Country Field Hockey SCORE/ HIGHLIGHTS/ DETAILS Boys Cross Country The boys started off the season with three wins in the first race of the season against Absegami, Bridgeton, and Vineland. Gobi Thurairajah won the 3.1 mile race with a time of 17:17. Brian Catania, Jordan Callahan, Justin Winkler, and Ryan Simpson rounded out the top 5. Girls Cross Country Your other RIGHT!!!! Although our top 5 girls made a wrong turn and ran an extra half mile, the girl s team also started out the season 3-0 showing a lot of heart to come from behind. Rachel Roesch broke the tape finishing first. Olivia Shafer, Madelyn Shick, Gianna Scarangelli, and Mikki Pomato were top 5 for the girls. Varsity Field Hockey is currently 2-2. The eagles beat Bridgeton and Middle Township while losing to Clearview and Absegami. Angelica Dagit scored the lone goal to beat middle township and also added 3 goals in the win against bridgeton. Hailey Rando, Jette Trumbauer and Kaitlyn Rigss have played outstanding so far this season. JV field hockey played tough but tied their game yesterday against Absegami 0-0. Their record so far this season is Tomorrow they play Millville. Courtney Carmen. She is the only player to come and support her varsity
team while they played Bridgeton. She is a wonderful role model to the younger players, and a great support for her varsity players. The freshman field hockey team lost to Haddonfield on 9/11. Taylor Wright scored the only goal for the Eagles Boys Soccer Girls Soccer Freshmen Boys Soccer went last week with a win against Haddonfield and a draw at the Prep. The boys scored five goals in each game, as Ahmad Brock scored six goals with one assist and Joey Moller scored two goals with two assists. EHT won a thriller 2-1 against GCIT in the first round of the Ferguson Tournament held at Clayton High School. Senior captain Bella Calender scored the game winner a minute and a half into the second overtime to secure the victory for the Eagles. Senior captain Stefi Piantadosi opened the scoring with a smooth finish after clever build up play in the midfield. EHT finished out the week by winning the Ferguson Tournament held at Clayton High School. EHT defeated Schalick 2-0 on a cool, crisp night in Clayton. Freshman Niki Danz scored her first career varsity goal off an assist by senior captain Stefi Piantadosi 15 minutes into the second half. Stefi later hit a laser that beat the keeper on a direct kick just outside the box to clinch the victory for the Eagles. Senior Brianna Gehringer recorded the shutout for EHT; junior midfielder Alexa Albert dazzled the crowd with her tenacity, footwork, and relentless pursuit of opponents. Senior captain Siani Magruder was awarded the tournament MVP trophy for her stellar defense and calm ball-handling skills out of the back to start the attack. With this win, Coach Wiech becomes the winningest girls soccer coach in Egg Harbor Township School history. EHT remained undefeated with the first CAL American Conference victory against ACIT 3-0. All three goals were scored in the first half.
The first by sophomore midfielder Kara Semet, the second by senior captain Stefi Piantadosi, and the third by senior captain Bella Callender. The Lady Eagles dominated possession only giving up one shot on senior goalie Brianna Gehringer. Senior defenders Megan Katapodis and Devan Freas helped secure the shutout while repeatedly jumping into the attack. The EHT novice team began the season with three tough out of conference games in the past week at Haddonfield Memorial, Delsea Regional, and Williamstown. The girls showed commitment and team spirit throughout all of their practices in the past week and have showed many signs of improvement, including playing a tough Williamstown squad down to the final minutes of the match. Rachel Rzemyk scored our first goal of the season on a wellpositioned corner kick. Tennis Girls Football The team is off to an undefeated 4-0 start beating Mainland, Atlantic City, Haddon Township, and Absegami. The Varsity football team lost their home opener to Millville. They will travel to Lenape in their next game. The JV football team won their opener against Millville by a score of 16 to 14. They will take on Lenape at home. Freshman Football Freshman football traveled to the hollow grounds of Millville High School. It was a defensive battle between the two teams with the bad guys breaking the 0-0 tie late in the third quarter. On the ensuing extra point Millville got the questionable two point conversion to lead 8-0. Our boys had the ball last and were driving to tie the score when time ran out. The offensive line of James Chancy, Kevin Adams, Christian Cericola, Richard (Gordo) Maldonado, David Bailey blocked well for Chris Decker to record over 75 yards rushing.
Athletic Department The fall season is off and running with all teams having at least one game under their belts. Come out and support the teams and show your EHT Pride. Follow along on Twitter (live feeds) and Facebook and get updated schedules at Go Eagles! THANK YOU!!
