GREETERS Keep in mind that we ll be looking for greeters for next year. Contact a Board member if you would like to be a greeter. It s a great opportunity to meet your fellow members. BOARD MEETING The board will meet at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 5 at the VFW. All Members are welcome to attend MEMBERSHIP Current Members YTD 2017: 272 WELCOME OUR NEW BOARD MEMBERS In November we elected the club officers for the 2018 year. It is through the support of all of our active members that the club remains strong. Please join me in thanking Frank D Antoni, Gary Livesay and Jim Runion for joining the Board and insuring that the South Strand Shag Club continues to be a fun place and stays around for another 20+ years. THANK YOU TO OUR RETIRING BOARD MEMBERS Our club would like to thank our retiring Board Members for their many years of service to the SSSC and the Dance Jo Ann Hickman, Ardie Newman, and Brenda Quincannon. Thank you for all you did and will continue to do, both for the SSSC and the Dance we all love. MUSIC REQUEST FORMS It is easy to let the DJ know what songs you want to dance to. Just fill out a song request form located at the Greeters Desk. All of our DJ s will be glad to play them for you. We hope to see everyone on the dance floor on Saturday. MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT We ve another great year for the Shag Club, but it s quickly coming to an end. We had a great time in November at our Sock Hop with fantastic music played by DJ Dennis Murphy, aka Elvis. Everyone was dressed in their finest 50 s attire. There were plenty of greasers and pony-tailed, poodle-skirted ladies available to dance with. There are only two more events left in 2017, the Christmas Party December 10 at the Beaver Bar with music by the Fantastic Shakers, (don t forget an unwrapped toy) and our final blowout the New Year s Eve Party at Inlet Affairs with music by DJ Dennis Murphy. Plan on wrapping up 2017 by attending both of these events. NEW YEARS EVE PARTY STILL TIME TO MAKE RESERVATIONS This year the New Years Eve Party is at the same location as last year, Inlet Affairs in Murrells Inlet, located across the street from Drunken Jack s on Bus 17 at the Marshwalk. Watch the ball drop in Time Square at Midnight on the large-screen TV by the dance floor. The meal will consist of Heavy Hors d oeuvres, a champagne toast at the stroke of 12, followed by a hot breakfast after midnight. Music will be provided by DJ Dennis Murphy. Doors will open at 7:30 pm. DANCE WITH ME LABELS Singles and those who love to dance with everyone - did you know that dance with me labels are available at the Greeter Table? Put one on and everyone will know that you are looking for someone to dance with, and with our club you will have no lack of partners. BITS & PIECES In Our Prayers are all Service Women and Men, Serving Our Country PRIZE DRAWING EACH SATURDAY Each Saturday, one of our active members will win a $25 door prize. The winner must be present and we ll draw until we have a winner. GET WELL Please keep Fred Poplin, Richard Belliveau, Julie Lovell and all of our members who are recovering from illness and surgery in your prayers. SYMPATHY Please keep the family of Jackie McLaughlin in your thoughts and prayers after her passing and to Don Parish in the loss of his brother. NAMETAGS & CLUB SHIRTS The first Saturday of each month is Club Shirt Night. This helps our members get to know each other. Wear your nametag to every club function. Better yet, promote the club by wearing a club shirt whenever you go out shagging. If you have lost your nametag, we ll be happy to order you another one for $3. WHERE TO DANCE Can t make it to the VFW for Saturday night then try the Beaver Bar in Murrells Inlet on Wednesday nights. DJ Bill Jones keeps the music playing and the dance floor full from 7-10 pm. Don t forget that Bill and Brenda Barber offer free shag lessons at 7pm. TIME TO RENEW It s time to join or renew your membership for You ll be able to enjoy all the club events throughout the year. Membership fee of $25 per person remains the same as last year. You won t find a better deal. Join today. Use the Membership Form attached and either mail in your renewal, bring it to one of our VFW meetings, or give it to any board member. 2 The first Saturday of each month is Shirt Night. We ask all members to wear their favorite club shirt. Wear it when you go out dancing to promote the club. Many club members have asked where they can get a club shirt. This is easy to do. Just go to any store and buy a shirt you like then take the shirt to Surf Water Promotions (see their ad) and they will apply the SSSC logo to any location you want on the shirt. They charge very reasonable prices and do a great job. This also helps support one of our key advertisers. Now there is no excuse not to have a SSSC shirt on the first Saturday each month. See Calendar for information about our weekly get-togethers at the VFW. January 11 14, 2018 SOS Cards available from the SSSC for only $30. That s less than the $35 at the beach. See Merwin Moore or Deborah Mangan. A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD THANK YOU SSSC MEMBERS I and the entire board would like to thank every member of our club for all of their help and support during this past year. Our members are always ready to step up and support our club. Personally, I m so proud to belong to a club that is so friendly and welcoming to everyone both members and visitors. We have a great reputation to uphold among the of the ACSC. Together, we can make 2018 even better than Members are asked to bring a dish for people to share. Members no charge Guest will be charged $15. UNWRAPPED TOY AT CHRISTMAS PARTY Don t forget to bring an unwrapped toy to the Christmas Party. All toys collected will be donated to the Kensington School in Georgetown. Thank you to Cherri Perkins for heading up this charity drive. Our Junior Shaggers are always in need of dancing shoes. Their feet are constantly growing and it s hard to dance and compete in shoes that don t quite fit. Darlene Hejl is helping to collect gently used mens and womens shoes. If you have a pair, or more, that you can donate, please bring them to Darlene during one of our club dances at the VFW. Seating is limited get your reservations in early. Members $60, Guests $70 Reservation Form Attached.
