Charlottetown Legion presents Awards to West Kent Students March 2010 Every year students from across PEI participate in the Royal Canadian Legion s Literary and poster contest to mark Remembrance Day. This year, two grade 6 students, Sam Paton and Graeme Zinck received prizes for their individual submissions. We are very proud of the accomplishments of these two students. Legions across Canada sponsor competitions at local schools for colour or B&W posters, poems, and essays as part of its commitment to promote Remembrance. 4 Page 4 West Kent News Thank you Parents! Staff would like to thank all parents for their generosity during Staff Appreciation week. We were treated to many delicious treats and on Friday parents volunteered to do outside duty for staff so we could enjoy a delicious lunch. This was much appreciated and on behalf of all staff members thank you very much. Students to Compete at District Science Fair Another very successful Science Fair was held at the school Wednesday, Feb. 24th. Again this year, Mrs. Davison, coordinated this activity which involved students in grades 4, 5 and 6. This year 4 projects will be representing West Kent at the ESD Science Fair being held at East Wiltshire Intermediate on Thursday, March 4. In case of inclement weather, this fair will be held the following day. Thank you to UPEI students who volunteered to judge the projects. Good Luck to our budding scientists at the next fair! 2010 West Kent Science Fair Participants Mrs Davison poses with the students chosen to respesent the school at the Eastern School District Science Fair, pictured are in no particular order Graeme Zinck, Jacqueline McQuaid, Bella Swyer and Lauren Guo.
5 Page 5 Gymnastics News The students had a very successful gymnastics module as part of the Physical Education program at the school. In fact all our student athletes participated in a meet at the school and one held outside the school. After the school meet, some students competed at the Zone Meet held at West Royalty School on February 11th. From this competition, students moved on to the Provincials which were held again this year in Kensington. It was at this meet where our students picked up two top team awards. The pre-novice girls and the Novice girls each won their respective divisions and the Pre-Novice boys and the Novice boys took third place! Following the Provincial meet the students were at St. Jean School to compete in the Friendship Meet where again a number of our students received ribbons. Congratulations to all our students and now we move into Volleyball and Badminton, stay tuned!
