It is important for young children to be aware of their bodies slowing down and finding stillness within. By practicing the simple act of sitting quietly and focusing on breathing can help children learn to focus, be it in their school work, sports, after school programs and in their everyday lives. Teaching the children to be mindful of their bodies, respecting how they look and honoring themselves can be an invaluable lesson. We will have a few warming up poses, followed by balancing in tree, standing strong in warrior pose, barking in downward facing dog, hissing in Cobra. Poems, stories, games and songs make it interesting, silly and joyful. Counting forwards and backwards to see how long you can hold a breath make it a challenge and fun. This helps with memory, patience and concentration. Lying quietly for a few moments, eyes closed and listening to soft music and hearing a gentle voice can calm the body and mind. For young busy, over stimulated youngsters this is very important. It helps them to accept and appreciate quiet time, gratitude and peace. Mrs. Samad is a 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher, having graduated from Stone Yoga in Teaneck, NJ. She has also taken 90 hours of children s yoga teacher training. She started practicing yoga, meditation and mindfulness 7 years ago. After taking classes at the Stone center she decided she wanted to deepen her practice and become a teacher. After graduating Stone Yoga she decided she would share her love of yoga with others. Fee: $150 for 10 sessions
