Check in will be at 10:00 a.m. with the show star ng at 11:00 a.m. 4 H youth 9 18 years of age as of January 1 st may par cipate and Cloverbuds 5 8 years of age may compete in the cloverbud division. CATEGORIES AND RULES: Specialty Acts Group Acts 1 4 people 5+ people or 20% of the club s membership 4 minute maximum 8 minute maximum Categories are: 1. Vocal if using music, you cannot have vocals on the tape (instrumental or backup vocals only). You will be placed in theatrical if singing to a tape or CD with vocals. 2. Instrumental 3. Physical Skills dancing, gymnas cs, jump rope, etc. 4. Theatrical comedy, drama, lip sync, etc. All props must be provided except for a cd player. *If you are using music on a cd, please label it with your name, category, track # and song name. Only youth par cipants may appear in the act. One adult may accompany each act. Acts must pre register by Friday, February 20th. Select acts may be asked to par cipate in Cloverville at the State Fair Please join us for a series of classes for young women ages 12+ on how to be strong leaders led by senior Hardin County 4 H member, Jenna Meredith. Two classes remain on Tuesdays, Feb 28, and Mar 28, 2017 all star ng at 6:30 p.m. at the Hardin County Extension Office. Please call to register! See flyer.

2 2 Believe it or not, there are many ways to communicate and express your thoughts and feelings other than public speaking. This year, 4 H is wan ng to showcase your crea vity in the Wri en Communica ons Contest! Categories include: Songwri ng Poetry (3 line min., 25 line max.) What 4 H Means to Me Essay (min. 500 words) Original Monologue Press Release (max words) Public Service Announcement Any youth, ages 9 18 can par cipate. Entries will be judged in two age divisions: Junior (ages 9 13) and Senior (ages 14 18). Each wri ng piece must be original work and must be turned in typed, doublespaced with size 12 Calibri font on white 8.5 x 11 paper with entrant s class, name and county on a cover page and last name on every page. (Songs may be single spaced within verses, chorus and bridge and double spaced between each of these.) Winners will be invited to showcase at the Kentucky State Fair Clover Café. Date TBD. Song wri ng, poetry, press release and public service announcement lessons can be found in Na onal 4 H Curriculum Picking Up the Pieces and Pu ng it Together. Monologue lesson can be found in Na onal 4 H Curriculum Play the Role. Please pick up a packet of rules and guidelines at the Extension Office. County deadline to submit your wri en piece is February 15. The top two entries from both age divisions will be sent on to the state level compe on. Good luck! WHAT DOES 4 H MEAN TO YOU? This is the theme for this year s 4 H poster contest. Put on your thinking cap and get busy crea ng your poster! Here are the rules: RULES: Poster must have 4 H in the tle and it should display what 4 H means to the 4 H er or what 4 H provides for boys and girls. Age categories are Grades 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, Copyrighted characters cannot be used such as Peanuts, Charlie Brown and Mickey Mouse. Digitally designed art is accepted, but must be the 4 Hers original work. Posters must be designed on poster board 14 x22 (1/2 of a regular poster board.) Posters may be produced by any medium such as water color, ink, crayon, pencil, paint, but cannot be three dimensional. NO GLITTER, or other art supplies that may fall off or stain other projects. All posters must have a completed tle form. Affix the form on upper le hand corner on the back of poster. Forms may be picked up at the Extension office. NO sharing posters. Posters are individual, original work of 4 H member. Posters are due by March 17, 2017

Dus n was 17 years old and loved working with ca le and did so un l his death on April 4, The award established is a heifer calf that is presented to either a 4 H or FFA youth that writes the winning essay for their county. The Na onal Farm Machinery Show & Tractor Pull will be coming to the KY Fair & Expo in Louisville on February 15th 18th. You will find the most complete selec on of cu ng edge agricultural products and services available from more than 850 exhibitors. There will be free seminars and a family living center located in the East Hall. Each night & Saturday a ernoon, Freedom Hall roars to life for the Championship Tractor Pull. 4 4 THANKS to all those who par cipated, Hardin County 4 H received $3,530 from the KY Farm License Plate campaign. The 2017 program will begin in March and we ask that you help to SPREAD THE WORD as to encourage Hardin County farm license plate holders to commit to the $10 voluntary dona on. Proceeds from the voluntary $10 dona on are equally divided among 4 H, FFA and KY Proud. The Hardin County AM Rotary Club will be hos ng speech contest for home school and high school seniors. It will be held at 7am on Friday February 24 th during their regular mee ng at the Stone Hearth. Cash prizes will be awarded $300 for 1 st place, $200 for 2 nd place and $100 for 3 rd place. The theme is Rotary: Serving Humanity. Speeches should be 5 8 minutes and delivered without the use of notes. Registra on deadline is February 9 th. Entry forms are available at the Extension Office or feel free to contact Dave te Swiney at dswiney@ckcf4people.org. In December, TLA members were visited by representa ves from the University of Kentucky, Campbellsville University and KY Higher Educa on Assistant Authority to learn about the importance of preparing for College and Careers. In January, the group traveled around Hardin County to learn about the importance of Public Rela ons and Media in our communi es. The next session for TLA will be February 22 and the leadership focus will be Government and we will be traveling to Breckinridge County to visit the court house and several community leaders. More detailed informa on will be sent to par cipants a few days in advance of each session. Registra on packets are now available for the 2017 KY 4 H Teen Summit! KY 4 H Teen Summit is a fun filled three day conference held at the Lake Cumberland 4 H Educa on Center in Jabez, KY (near Somerset) March 23 25, Summit is the only statewide event that is JUST for middle school youth, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from across the state will gather to experience leadership, engage in workshops and funshops and have some serious fun! There will be games, a dance and lots of other exci ng experiences you won t want to miss out on. Registra on fee is $115 per person. All registra ons are due by Friday, February 10th! 5 5 Did you know that the #1 fear of most adults is public speaking? If only they had participated in their 4 H Speech and Demonstration Contest! Now is the time to begin working on a speech or demonstration to present at the 2017 Hardin Co. 4 H Talk Meet & Demonstration Contest on Tuesday, May 2nd. Registration will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the program starting at 6:00 p.m. You must pre register for this event! To register, please call the Extension Office at (270) and be ready to give the following information: Name, Title of Speech and/or Demo and Birth Date NO LATER than Friday, April 28th. Late registrations will not be accepted. To receive a copy of the complete Rules and Regulations, stop by the Extension Office. 4 H COUNCIL Council members and volunteer leaders will be having their next mee ng at 6:30 p.m. on March 28 th at the Extension Office. They will be se ng a date for the 2017 County Awards Banquet in addi on to preparing for upcoming spring events and ac vi es. A goal of the council was to possibly schedule around addi onal youth events that normally occur during November & early December. In December, the 4 H Robo cs club competed in the First Lego League Regional Tournament at the University of Kentucky and received the robo cs design award and placed second in the robot game.

7 CLUB NEWS 7 LEGO DRAGONS ROBOTICS CLUB If you are interested in joining the Lego Dragons Robo cs Club, NOW IS YOUR CHANCE! Club mee ngs will be held once a month on Thursday s from 5:30 7:00 PM and members will meet to learn about different types of robo cs through fun, hands on learning ac vi es! The remaining mee ng dates are February 16, March 16, April 20 and May 20 (fundraiser). PAWS CLUB Members will have a Lock In from 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11th to 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 12 th at the Hardin County Extension Office. Please bring sleeping bag or mat and a drink and snacks to share. You may also bring your favorite G rated movie to watch. We will be making dog beds and toys for the animal shelter as one of our community service projects. If anyone has any Extra Large to 3X t shirts they do not want, PLEASE bring them for us to use. Ms. Rose would also like to say CONGRATULATIONS to all Cloverbuds and Beginners that have completed their first 8 weeks of training! 8 CLUB NEWS 8 TRAILBLAZERS Members will be hos ng a Dance Your Heart Away Valen ne s Day Dance from 6:00 p.m. 11:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10 th at the Hardin County Extension Office. Cost is $5 per person OR $10 (which includes hot dog, drink, chips & cookies) The next business mee ng will be 6:30 p.m. on February 13 th at the Extension Office and club members will volunteer at Feeding America from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on February 28 th. Trailblazer 4 H Horse Club members learned a bit of history about the KY Derby by visi ng the Derby Museum and Churchill Downs. LIVESTOCK CLUB Livestock Club members Audrey & Avery Shoulders, Priscilla Riggs along with Bo Langley, Addie & Sadie Atcher and Addison Shoulders began the curing process for their country ham project with help from John Ball, Larue County Country Ham volunteer leader. Hams were wrapped then hung in the ham house as the salt and cure mix goes to work! Members wish to THANK to Dr. Jarrod Goff, Midway Vet Clinic, for taking me to speak at the January mee ng regarding the Veterinarian Feed Direc ve that went into effect Jan 1, On February 14 th, 6:30 p.m. club members will be mee ng at Tracy & Jacob Geer s (7065 Rineyville Rd, 1 st house on le past the Dollar General store) to tour their new farrowing facility. BE SURE to dress appropriately according to weather and plas c boot covers will be provided for those entering farrowing house. Following the tour par cipants will have chili and hot dogs along with a brief business mee ng. Carter Geer, AdyMae Williams, Trey Stuecker, Alex Madden & Tori Geer along with parents and leaders volunteered to fill back pack bags at Feeding America on January 24 th. Keep up the Good Work!

9 TARGET MASTERS 9 Webb s Jerky order forms will be passed out at the business mee ng on February 9 th 6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. This is an excellent fundraising opportunity for the club as all order forms are due back to Ms. Leann by February 23 rd. The H Shoo ng Sports Camp will be held April 5 8 at Lake Cumberland 4 H Camp in Jabez, KY for youth 9 13 years of age. Cost is $140 per camper. BOBBINS SEWING CLUB Bobbins Sewing Club members have been having a blast learning the basics from Ms. Gail and Ms. Wanda! We have had an outstanding response to sewing this year. Mee ngs are scheduled for February 14th and 28th from 4:30 6:30 p.m. You will have the opportunity to showcase your finished clothing project in the 4 H Fashion Revue, tenta vely scheduled for May 5.

10 PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB 10 Calling all youth photographers! Please consider joining the 4 H Photography Club! We will be working on learning the basics of photography and working towards ge ng some great shots for fair entries! Next mee ng will be February 9th at 6:00 p.m. All other club mee ngs will be held once monthly on 2 nd Thursdays and are as follows: March 9, April 13 and May 11. You may contact the Extension Office to signup or if you have ques ons. TEEN CLUB A en on ALL 4 H teen members! In January, 14 Hardin County teens met for the first 4 H teen club mee ng and HAD A BLAST! PLEASE JOIN US at the next 4 H Teen Club mee ng on February 20 at star ng at 6:30 p.m. Loca on to be announced thru the remind 101 text alert. The 4 H Teen Club will meet monthly to plan community service projects, fundraisers to help pay for 4 H teen events, and focus on building leadership and communica on skills. Stephanie began as the 4 H program assistant in January. Stephanie grew up in LaRue County where she par cipated in 4 H as youth member for 10 years. Her main 4 H project was horses, rabbits, and sewing, however she admits to a emp ng hogs one year! Stephanie a ended the Interior Design Ins tute in Louisville and received an Associate s Degree in Applied Arts. Her and her husband, Casey live in Rineyville on an 8 acre mini farm with 2 dogs and 3 horses. Stephanie has 2 children, Jenna age 17 who a ends ECTC as dual enrollment and Dalton, age 14 is homeschooled. For the last 10 years, Stephanie has been a volunteer leader with the dog and horse clubs. In her spare me, Stephanie enjoys scrapbooking, showing her horse Lily and spending me with family. As most of you know Mother Nature can be very tricky this me of year and can some mes cause dangerous driving condi ons. Therefore, I would like to remind you that if SCHOOL is CANCELED due to bad weather condi ons, ALL 4 H CLUB MEETINGS, ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS ARE AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED AS WELL.
