Lady Tiger Basketball The Lady Tigers played in the Sarcoxie tournament this past week. The girls beat Sarcoxie in their opening game of the tournament. They played Strafford in the second game and won, advancing the Lady Tigers to the championship game. The girls faced last years 1A state champs, Exeter. The Lady Tigers lost, but received a trophy for second place. The Lady Tigers lost a conference game here Tuesday night against the Wyandotte Lady Bears. Carver In the biggest game in the college football season, The National Championship, It was Heisman Trophy Winner Mark Ingram and top ranked Alabama vs. star quarterback Colt McCoy and number two Texas. On the first drive of the game Colt McCoy injured his throwing shoulder, after that it was all Alabama in the first half. At the end of the first half it was Alabama leading 24 to 6. Texas fans hoped for a comeback from McCoy bu8t never got it. Freshman quarterback Garret Gilbert replaced Colt McCoy. Gilbert threw two touchdown passes to CHS Weightlifting by Mikey Morgan bring the score to 24 to 21. Texas never scored again the final score was 37 to 21 as Alabama won the BCS National Championship. Last Friday on January 22, 2010 Coach Kelley took 18 boys from the off season weight team to a meet at Hilldale in Muskogee, Ok. Out of the 18, three placed. Bryson Sullivan placed 2nd in the 198 weight class. Marco Sierra placed 2nd in the 181 weight class. Austin McMain placed 3rd in the 160 weight class. The next weight lifting meet will be Friday in Watts, Ok. CHS Boys Basketball by Dylan Mills The boys played their first games of the new year at Baxter where they fell Their next game was against the Afton Eagles. The Tigers lost They lost their next game against Welch The Tigers lost again to Fairland on homecoming, They played a make-up game against Welch where they lost, They beat Sarcoxie in the first round of the Sarcoxie Tournament, to end their losing streak. They beat College Heights, and lost to Exeter, in the championship. The Tigers squeaked by Bluejacket, The tigers played a tough game even though they lost to Wyandotte, 54-49, in overtime. Your opponent, in the end, is never really the player on the other side of the net, or the swimmer in the next lane, or the team on the other side of the field, or even the bar you must highjump.
