2 2 ENGEO BBQ AND CAR SHOW ~ OCTOBER 5TH The 2016 ENGEO BBQ and Car Show as another great success! The weather cooperated and we enjoyed a beautiful fall afternoon with great cars, music, BBQ, drinks and good conversation. All told, over 100 guests came by to enjoy the festivities. We had about 20 club members participate this year and share their classics, hot rods, and even some "modern" classics with group. Several folks met at Strikes and caravanned over to the office at about 4:45pm. We were joined there by other club members and some clients that also are car fans and wanted to share their wheels! Hickory Hanks grilled up ribs, bbq chicken, and sausage with delicious sides. Drinks were plentiful and we even had pie and cake for dessert. The ENGEO People's Choice Award for 2016 went to an 'over the top' 1951 Willys M38 Army Jeep that included two machine guns, a bazooka and other period armaments! You don't want to mess with this guy The evening was just about perfect, and thanks to all those that came out and supported our annual event. I'm already looking forward to 2017! By Jon Boland CAPITAL CITY OCTOBERFEST ~ OCTOBER 8TH Octoberfest, put on by the Capital City Cruisers, was held Saturday, October 8 th. Rods & Relics has 54 members. However only 5 plus a new guest showed up. What s up with this? I was embarrassed for our Club. Thanks to Ed McVey, Tom & Pat Kirkbride. Ray Geiger, Larry Hickerson and new guest member to be, Jeff Mclean. There were about 150 car s (they allow foreign cars) total. The weather was fantastic with a cool breeze. Lots of awards for some cool cars. Trophies were so-so, but you still wanted to win one. The Capital City Cruisers had a Chevy convertible covered with donated toys for their Gifts From The Heart charity by the end of the day. There was a unique vendor, Premier Mobile Tire, at the show. We will have them as a speaker at our November meeting. We split for lunch. Some went to the Red Robin, Panera s and the Fire Pizza place. All said the food & service was great. The highlight of the show was the Rod s & Relic s drawing for the Evening of Sin. Larry Hickerson was the winner. I hope he had a enjoyable evening!!!! Best of show was a black on black 1967 Shelby Mustang. All in all we had a good time. By George Funk Editor: George won 1st place trophy for 40 s Modified
3 3 SIERRA REGENCY ~ OCTOBER 13TH HELLO EVERYONE, We had another great day out with our cars on Thursday, Oct.13th at Sierra Regency Retirement Community. As the season winds down, a few more car shows are left and a few toy runs for the Holidays, we went out in style on Thursday. A little possibility of rain (did not stop us from going), which did not occur. Most of us met at Strikes to caravan over to the facility. We had a total of 22 cars, 18 of us left Strikes on time and headed on over to Sierra Regency, a smooth and easy drive over with a little freeway driving, ending up on Sunrise Ave and onto the facility. Mike Roby, Tom and Pat Kirkbride and a former member and good friend Rich Reidburn went over directly and welcomed us in as well as staff members. The layout is perfect for our cars, a lot of shade and plenty of chairs and tables set out for our and the residents comfort and pleasure, as we all watched up close and listened to a great live musical duo who played naturally, oldies but goodies. The food and beverages are just simply over the top. We had doughnuts and coffee in the morning and a great lunch with tri tip sandwiches and all the trimmings: potato salad and two types of pasta. a variety of beverages was also available for us. A lot of residents came out to view the cars. I was particularly impressed with a gentleman named Hue. He was actually thanking everyone he could with a handshake for bringing out our cars, As we discussed the day with him, he revealed he was only 101 YEARS OLD. We met several residents that were well into their eighties. To be able to stay at Sierra Regency you need to be able to get around on your own. We were amazed at all the very healthy senior citizens at this facility. They loved our cars and were very happy we showed up. This was our third year in a row and hopefully there will be many more to come. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THE MEMBERS WHO CAME OUT TO MAKE THIS A VERY SPECIAL DAY AND EVENT. By Ray Geiger
