Football has begun to capture the imagination of our followers throughout the county in view of the great performances of our county teams in 1993 when we contested three Munster finals. Unfortunately, success was not ours, but the interest and enthusiasm generated by these county teams was especially evident at the semi-finals when a large attendance turned out despite the inclement conditions. Today must bring back memories of the two great games between Loughmore-Castleincy and Fethard in last year's county final and rephiy. There's little between these two teams, steeped in the football tradition and lore in this county. I'm sure t<xlay's winners will be fiuing representatives of the Premier County in the forthcoming Munster Club championship when they travel to meet Quilty in the Banner County, which is also witnessing a football resurgence at the moment. The minor final is a novel pairing with Clonmel Commercials taking on Newport from the North. Attention to underage players in both these clubs is now paying dividends. Finally, thanks to both referees and their officials who playa major part in the running of games in our organisation. Thanks, too, to the Holycross-Ballycahill club for putting their facilities at the disposal of our clubs and indeed our many county panels who use the grounds when preparing for inter-county games. 9 Commercials bid for Fourteenth Title The Commercials arc seeking their fourteenth minor title on Sunday. 17th October when they luke on Newport in a fi rst ever meeting at minor level for these two clubs. Winners in 1992, Comm("r"CiaIS are hopeful of repealing their successful efforts of 1954/1955 and 1967/1968 when lhey won two-in-a-row. Quite a number of the panel were members of the 1992 title team which was captained by Liam Phelan.
