2016 Juvenile Club Report 2016 Juvenile GAA Club Report Chairman: Joe McCarthy; Secretary: Ger Lynch; Treasurer: JP Hartigan. The Juvenile Club would like to thank all the players who played at underage level with the club during the year. The club is very proud of these players who are a credit to their families, their coaches and their parish. We would also like to thank the parents for their great support. In addition, we are lucky to have the backup of the teachers in Tineteriffe, Scoil Chaitriona and Bilboa, who give the children great encouragement to participate in Gaelic games. Finally, a particular word of thanks to the Coaches of each team for their time and effort, to ensure that each child has a memorable experience of playing with Cappamore. Needless to say, new coaches regardless of experience are always very welcome. The following is the report from each management team with respect to the grades they managed. Under 16 s Hurling and Football Coaches: Joe McCarthy, Pat McMahon and Liam O Mahoney The U16 Panel had a very busy year, taking part in County Hurling and Football Championships. We played division two in hurling and division three in football. U16 Hurling In U16 Hurling Division 2, sixteen teams were divided into two groups of eight. Group 1 comprised Cappamore, Pallas, Ahane, Monaleen, Ballyhoura Gaels, Claughaun, Ballybrown, St Patricks. Group 2 comprised Kilmallock, Croagh Kilfinny, Granagh/Ballingarry, Killaculla Gaels, Kilpeacon, New Castle, St Kieran s, Dromcollogher/Broadford There was the usual mix of good opposition and amalgamations. The boys had some very good results and played high quality hurling taking good wins against Monaleen, Claughaun, Ballybrown with a walkover against St Pats. Our losses were tight, only by a few points to Pallas, Ahane and Ballyhoura Gaels. Ahane and Ballybrown from group 1 and Kilmallock and Croagh/Kilfinny from group 2 progressed to the Championship semi-finals. Kilmallock beat Ballybrown in the championship final. We ended up in the shield playoff/quarter final against Ballyhoura Gaels which was played under lights in Kilbready, Staker Wallace Gaa grounds. This again was a game of high quality with both teams throwing themselves into a high speed and high scoring game. Teams were level at full time, extra time had to be played. The boys were unlucky in extra time, with some vital refereeing decisions going against them, losing by 2 points. That aside, the boys fought to the final whistle and represented their club and parish to the highest standard. The shield final was contested by Pallas and Ballyhoura Gaels. G Lynch Page 1 of 18

U16 Football In U16 Football Division 3. there were eight teams in one group, comprising Cappamore, Bruff, Dromin Athlacca, Granagh/Ballingarry, South Liberties, Athea, Knockainey and Ballylanders We had an excellent football championship, only losing to Bruff during our opening game. The boys completed a clean sweep against all other opposition and this put us in the championship final against Bruff. Again, the boys played a great final and fought to the final whistle, losing out to a very good Bruff side. Again, this was an enjoyable year being involved with a juvenile team. Many of the boys matured this year, with many of them learning important lessons that they will G Lynch Page 2 of 18
2016 Juvenile Club Report take forward in sporting careers. A special mention to the younger players on the panel, as on all Cappamore panels, we had boys from the U14 panel playing on the U16 panel, and they competed beyond expectation over the year. On a final note, on behalf of team management we would like to thank the boys and you the parents for the great support and enjoyment we had this year. Under 14s and U13s Coaches: Daniel O Donnell, Diarmuid Mulcahy, Conor O Malley, Jack Campbell. Our first competition of the year was the Feile Hurling where the team fell short at the semi-final stage to a very strong Kildimo/Pallaskenry, a match that was played under atrocious conditions. The Feile Football commenced around the same time as the hurling. We reached the final in the B competition, losing out to a very strong Killacolla Gaels. In the U-14 Hurling Championship we entered Division 2 where we played 6 group games winning 4 and losing 2. By losing 2 games we entered the Shield side of the competition losing out to the eventual winners Bruff in Cappamore. With a little luck on the night in question it could have been us in the final. In the Football competition we played 5 games winning 4 and receiving 2 walkovers. This put us into the semi-final where we lost out to Croom in Rathkeale, not playing anywhere near our capabilities which was a really disappointing finish to our U-14 year. In our U-13 Hurling competition we have played 5 games winning 4 and losing 1. We played the County Final against the Cois Laoi Gaels and while we gave it our all, they proved to be too strong on the day. Finally I would like to thank my fellow coaches Diarmuid Mulcahy, Conor O Malley & Jack Campbell for all their dedication and commitment. Thank You to the parents for your support. We had some great games during the year with the boys and wish them every success in the season ahead. G Lynch Page 3 of 18

Under 12s 2016 Juvenile Club Report Coaches: Con Hayes, Mossy Gleeson, Conor Coleman. This year we again had good numbers for all hurling and football trainings and matches throughout the year. The boys got their hurling campaign off to a good start winning both their preliminary league matches, this meant that they played in the 2nd tier of the league. They had 1 loss in the league and won the rest of the games with big wins over both Adare and Mungret. In the football, they had 1 win,1 loss and 1 draw in the preliminary League, they were placed in the 3rd tier of the County League where they went unbeaten in the 5 remaining games with great character and fight being shown in a hard fought win over Hospital/Herbertstown. The boys successfully retained the Phil Power Cup on a hard fought hurling match in which the boys had to fight from 2 points down in the closing minutes to snatch victory. Jamie Fahey captained on the night. The boys and management enjoyed a great day in Thurles at the Limerick senior match capped off with a very enjoyable meal at Hayes' on the way home. The lads were a great bunch to manage and a pleasure for the coaching team of Mossy Gleeson, Conor Coleman and Con Hayes to be involved with. U12 Panel. 7 Under 10s 2016 Juvenile Club Report Coaches: Fergal Heeney, Ciaran Smith, Shay O Dwyer This year's U10 team had a very enjoyable year and participated in several hurling and football blitzes with great success. The team showed great commitment all year and improved their skills as the year went on. This was evident in the last Hurling blitz in Hospital where the team won 3 out of 3 games. The year finished on a high with all players receiving a medal and awards were presented for best attendance, most improved and man of the match in our last game. Thanks to everyone who helped out with the team during the year. Photo U10 Hurling team G Lynch Page 7 of 18

2016 Juvenile Club Report Under 8s Coaches: Pat Gleeson, Eilish McGahon, Joe Ryan, JJ Carr and Matthew O Malley. We started the season in March with 6 weeks indoor and continued in the Gaa field from late April to October. We had 21 players registered and 5 coaches. We took part in the Limerick Gaa blitzes which were held in UL over the summer months. These blitzes consisted of mini games in both Hurling and Football and with the help of all the coaches and parents we were able to attend most of these games. The games were a great learning curve for all the boys and they did very well in them. We also played a few local clubs during the summer with games against Newport, Sean Traceys, Doon and Pallasgreen. We concluded the season with a day out for the boys at the bowling alley on the Ennis Rd followed by a treat in Supermacs. Well done to the coaches involved. We would also like to thank the parents who helped out at various times of the year and for bringing the boys to games and training. Finally, I would like conclude by saying a very well done to all the players who learned a lot, improved their skills and most of all enjoyed themselves. We had great numbers boys and girls of up to 20 most nights. We then progressed to the gaa field and played blitzs against Pallas, Sean Treacys, Newport and Kildangan. All the kids enjoyed themselves and made great progress. Thanks to all parents and coaches and coaching officer Brian Leahy. Photo U6 Team Photo Ref 1 Photo U6 Team Photo Ref 2 G Lynch Page 11 of 18
Schools Programme 2016 Juvenile Club Report As in previous years, the Club would like to thank Tineteriffe, Scoil Chaitriona and Bilboa national schools for facilitating the schools GAA programme in conjunction with the County Bord na nog. Local coaches Claire Keating, Tadgh Butler, Ellen Lynch, Eamonn Sheehan and Con Berkery coached the kids in hurling and football skills. This has proven to be a great success in the past, and we thank all the coaches, the schools, the senior club and the camogie club for assisting in this very worthwhile programme. Kellogg s Cul camp We had over ninety kids attend the Cul Camp at the start of July. The weather was great; the kids learned lots of new skills, made more friends and had a great time. Our thanks go to the Limerick GAA Games Development, the Coaches, the Parents and the kids for making it a successful and enjoyable week. A special word of thanks goes to those who helped out at registration, to those who supervised at lunch time and to those who tidied up afterwards. G Lynch Page 12 of 18
