Mungret Club Notes 6 May 2014 Foundation Course It is proposed to hold a foundation coaching course in Mungret on Fri 16th from 7pm to 10pm, and Sat 17th 9.30am to 1 pm. It is necessary to attend both days. Anyone who wishes to be involved with a team this year needs to take this course, anyone interested is asked to contact Donal at as soon as possible, as we need to finalize numbers. Under 8 Camogie help needed The foundation course is in fact a great opportunity for any parents from this team to get involved with coaching. This is a fine team of young ladies who have won all their blitz matches this year so far. We are unfortunately now in a situation where training sessions will not be able to proceed because coaches are not available, so any support we can get would be greatly appreciated. 3 Great limerick Run Well done to all the volunteers who helped the club raise 2000 by turning up. The run went very smoothly even with communion masses on in Raheen and St Pauls but some volunteers were grateful for the cuppa. Well done to all who took part in any form of the run whether it was the childrens run on the Saturday or the big run on the Sunday. We don t have details of everyone who competed, and apologies in advance to anyone we are missing, but Mike Brennan powered home in the half marathon, Jean Costello did a fantastic marathon in 4:20, the Mungret relay team of Siobhan Horgan (AKA Miriam ), Regina Long, Niamh O Grady and Noelle Brennan got home in 4hrs 5 mins, and Colin Kenny broke the four hour barrier, getting home in 3:58 despite carrying a hurling related injury throughout his training campaign. We look forward to seeing you all turn out to the Mungret 10K in a few weeks. U14s Ladies Football The U14s travelled to Abbeyfeale on Wednesday to take on Fr.Casey's. Mungret started the stronger with scores from Joanne Foley 2-0, Aoife Morrissey 1-0. Emer O'Keeffe 1-1, Ciara O'Connell 1-0, Clare O'Meara 0-1, Roisin Moran 0-1 and Emma Kate Quinn 0-1 before the break to see Mungret lead at half time 5-4 to 0-2. The second half saw Fr.Casey's fight back scoring three goals but points from Helena Dee, Emer O'Keeffe, Joanne Foley, Leah O'Carroll 0-2, Roisin Moran and a goal from Caoimhe Garry saw Mungret pull off a win on a scoreline of 6-10 to

U8 Hurling A blitz was held last week, On the pitch were 4 Mungret teams, Ahane and Na Piarsaigh. All the children had some fun games. There was some great skill on show from all teams. Thank you to all who helped out on the night, by coaching a team, refereeing or supporting. Thank you to Diarmuid Mullins for organising the event. 4

U16s Ladies Football Last Monday evening the U16 girls travelled out to Adare to take on close neighbours in the highly competitive 16's League. The first half was a very intense encounter with both sides going at it from the start. Avril Clarke got the scoring off to a start with a goal after a few minutes, this was soon followed by a goal from Niamh O'Keeffe. Adare kicked in two goals to level things when Emer O'Keeffe scored 2-1 in quick succession to pull ahead. Adare scored another 1-3 but Michelle Joy and Niamh O'Keeffe kicked over a point each to see Mungret lead at half time 4-3 to Adare's 3-3 with everything to play for in the second half. The second half started in the same vein as the first half with both sides exchanging scores from an early stage. Goals from Niamh O'Keeffe, Emer O'Keeffe 2 and Aisling Montano King were very quickly cancelled out by Adares 3-2 but about 15 minutes into the half Mungret went on a goal scoring frenzy with goals from Niamh O'Keeffe, Avril Clarke, Aisling Montano King, a rocket from 35 yards out from Aoibheam Maher and Emer O'Keeffe finished off the night with another bullet to the bottom corner to see the final score Mungret 13-4 Adare 6-5. Most of the scoring opportunities were cancelled out by great defending by Julie Mangan, Emma Bourke, Rachel Fennell, Clare O'Meara, Aimee Rickard and Karin Mason. Leah O'Carroll in goals pulled off some excellent saves on the night. U12s Ladies Football The U12s hosted a very young Oola team on Friday evening in a very one sided affair. Mungret got off to a great start with three goals from Amy O'Byrne and points from Emer O'Keeffe 0-5, and Aoife Morrissey 0-2 before half time. The second half saw some positional changes and the scores kept coming with scores from Fiona Meehan 2-0, Emer O'Keeffe 2-2 and a well deserved point form Ailbhe Larkin. There was also some great displays of football from Fiona O'Brien, Kathlyn Costelloe, Alannah McDonagh and Sophie O'Brien. Well done girls. We would like to congratulate our Ladies Gaelic footballers Mairead Clancy, Kate Mulqueen and Sinead Madden on winning the Minor All-Ireland Camogie final against Cork last Saturday. Also at the weekend Eve Nealon and Clare O Meara were part of the U14 limerick team, who won the munster blitz in Ennis on Monday Well done to all the girls on Limerick teams, this is great for the club. 5

Limerick U14s We would like to congratulate the players and mentors of the Limerick U14s Ladies Gaelic Football team who won the C division Munster Championship on Saturday last. 7 Wednesday 14th May U15 Football V. Old Christians in Old Christians at 6.15pm Camogie We played our first ever competitive match at junior level this weekend against Knockaderry. For this season we have amalgamated with both Treaty Gaels and Monaleen to ensure a continuum of playing opportunities for those girls that have been with the Camogie Club from the very beginning. Although victory alluded us it was great to see our girls making the transition from underage to the adult realm. Well done to Amy Fitzgearld, Sinead Madden, Alannah Lyons, Pauline Costello, Dayna Slattery and a not so young Sinead Hickey. Scór na bpáistí Congratulations to the competitors from St Nessans National School Mungret and St Pauls National School who took part in Scór na bpáistíon Thursday evening in LIT. It was fantastic night with 10 national schools from the City taking part in the different categories. Rince Foirne (Figure Dancing): Congratulations to Aela Gleeson, Bronagh Byrne, Ciara Brennan, Sarah Butler, Emma Hynes, Erika Long, Aisling O'Grady and Kate O'Brien who took second place in Rince Foirne for St Nessans National School Mungret. Aithristeoireacht (Rectitation): Congratulations to Rachel Buckley who took first place in Aithristeoireacht for St Pauls National School. 7

Leiriu (Drama): Congratulations to Enrika Budryte, Roibin Ni Chonaill, Rebecca Ni Eachaidh, Isibeal Chaomhanach, Meadhbh Bharun and Slavek Panek who took second place in Leiriu for St Pauls National School. Bailead Ghrupa (Ballad Group): Congratulations to Lauren Ni huallachain, Amy Nic Choisteala, Conchur Mac Cathain, Lucas O'Tuathaigh and Labhras O' Tuathaigh who took second place in the Bailead Ghrupa for St Pauls National School. Rince seit (Set Dancing): Congratulations to Labhras O'Tuathaigh, Conchur Mac Cathain, Gearoid Aikoriogie, Liam O'Murchu, Shauna Bhreathnach, Meadhbh Bharun, Maire Joblonska and Fiona Ni Bhrian who took first place in Rince seit for St Pauls National School. Congraulations to Roisin O'Connor, Abby Nagle, Kate O'Brien, Jenny Lynch, Rachel Lynch, Michelle O'Brien, Leah Nolan and Monica Sheehan who took second place in Rince seit for St Nessans National School Mungret. Where do the balls go. We often hear that the footballs and sliotars go missing or get lost. One tried to escape on Thursday night, and made its way past a Theresa s checkpoint, but the ball only made it as far as next door. Like a wandering calf, the ball was eventually retrieved and returned to the bottom of the bag. 8
