2 Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Valley Rovers took on Youghal in the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship yesterday in Carrigtwohill. In what proved to be a very exciting game Valleys came away with the spoils in the end on a score of Valley Rovers 3-14 to Youghal Youghal were first to open the scoring on 2 mins getting their first point. Valleys then had a wide from a free and an Eamonn Collins goalbound effort just went the wrong side of the post for Rovers when he found himself one on one with the Keeper. Less than a minute later Youghal made their way into the Valleys half and some hesitant defending allowed Youghal in for a goal. Moments later Youghal struck again for another goal to leave the score after 4 min Valley Rovers 0-0 to Youghal 2-1. Three minutes later the Rovers opened their account with Eamonn Collins fetching a high ball and unselfishly parted to Kevin Canty who placed the ball past the Youghal keeper. Valley Rovers 1-0 Youghal 2-1. Both teams traded a brace of points and on 18 min Youghal goaled again to extend the lead and added another point on 24 min this time a point from a free to put eight points between the teams. A Richie Butler 24 min point stop the rot and two minutes later Eamonn Collins converted a Valleys free. Youghal claimed the next two scores to extend the lead to 8 again approaching half time but Valleys got two crucial scores before half time points from Eamonn Collons and Darragh Crowley to leave the half time score Valley Rovers 1-6 Youghal 3-6. Youghal held the upper hand on the scoring for the first 20 minutes of the second half scoring 5 points with Valleys only managing two long range frees from Richard Butler and Chris O Donovan. Youghal were 9 points clear with 9 minutes left Valley Rovers 1-8 Youghal Eamonn Collins scored from a point from play and Chris O Donovan got another long range free before Youghal got their last score a point to put them 8 points up and only 4 mins to go. Valleys were awarded a 21 yard free but Eamonn Collins attempt for goal goes narrowly over the bar. Two minutes later a free was dropped into the square where an Eamonn Collins overhead pull produced a fantastic goal and a minute later Collins goal attempt was saved only for Kevin Canty to finish the rebound to the net. On 60 min Kevin Canty levels it up for the first time since the start of the game. Two minutes later Valleys were awarded a free in their own half but some Youghal dissent resulted in the referee bringing forward the sliothar 13 meters. With the free just inside the Valleys half Eamonn Collins came out to take it and duly slotted it over the bar to give Valleys have the lead for the first time in the game. Youghal then get a free from distance which drops short and Valleys break swiftly for Kevin Canty to get a great point to bring an end to the scoring. This was a fantastic result for Valleys Rovers considering where they were with 5 minutes to go. Valleys are free from the threat of relegation now and hopefully they will kick on from here. Darragh Looney for Ray O Donovan 37mins Under 13 Hurling League On Wed 29th May Valley Rovers welcomed Na Piarsaigh to Brinny in the Premier 1 U13 hurling league. Na Piarsaigh played with the wind in the first half and lead at half time 0-11 to Valleys started the second in much more determined fashion and slowly got back in to the game, in a high scoring second half, Valleys eventually had to settle for a draw 3-13 to Best for the Rovers in a good second half performance were R Hoey, C Hurley, M O Leary, S Lynch & N Lawton in defence, K Rice & S Barry worked hard in the middle of the field and up front Ch Lyons, M Crowley & J Crowley. 3 Bayern Munich winning the Champions league gave 9 points to the lucky tipsters. This has had an effect on the leaderboard with us now having a breakaway group of 4 but the gap to the peloton is small with a the majority of people still in with a great chance of winning of title. Under 8 Go Games: on Saturday last Valleys travelled to Newcestown to play the home team. All the young camogie players enjoyed their games with all skills practiced at training on display with the emphasis on participation, fun and enjoyment. May 2013 has proved to be the busiest month on record for Valley Rovers website surpassing the previous busiest month (May 2012) by 358 vistis. In May 2013 the website attracted 4,186 visits with 8,952 pages viewed. Wednesday May 29th was also the busiest day every recorded with 321 visits. During May 2013 we also surpassed 50,000 visitors in approx 2 years. In this time we have had visitors from 85 different countries. We would like to thank everyone that contributes information that keeps people returning to the website and keeping our supporters up to date with what is happening in the club whether they are at home or abroad. 6 am Scrap Metal Wanted Valley Rovers now have a skip in Brinny for all your unwanted scrap Metal. The skip is located by the farthest gable of the dressing rooms from the road by the Valley Rovers Juvenile Club have invited David Angland from Bishopstown Physiotherapy Clinic to give a talk to our juvenile trainers and parents re injuries, stretches and lots of questions that are frequently asked.
