2 SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Valley Rovers 1.12 V s Duhallow 1.14 Valley Rovers senior footballers took on Duhallow in the quarter final of the senior football championship in Macroom on Sunday night. Valleys had the better of the opening 15 minutes and lead by 1-5 to 0-1.Into the second 15 minutes Duhallow came more in to the match with points from some frees and unforced error and reduced Valleys lead to four points. The half time score was Valley Rovers 1-7 Duhallow 0-6. Valleys started the second half the better with two points inside the opening 3 minutes. but after that began to sit back and by the 45 minute lead 1-9 to Heading into injury time and only leading by one point Valleys were struck a cruel blow with a goal from Duhallow. In what little time was left Valleys tried to get level but couldn t. The Muskerry side had the better of the opening half and lead by 0-09 to 0-02 at half time with the Valleys points coming from Adam Settini and Fearghal Lyons. In the opening 15 minutes of the second half Valleys had their best spell of the match scoring three points. A goal for Iveleary with 12 minutes to goal killed off Valleys challenge but to their credit Valleys heads never dropped and they kept battling till the end. The full time score was Valley Rovers 0-7 Iveleary This team still has the southeast league semi final to look forward to. Valleys had the better of the opening and lead by 1-2 to 0-4 with the Valleys goal coming from Eoin Burke. By the 22nd minute Valleys lead was four points. However Crosshaven ended the half the better and half time score was Valley Rovers 1-6 Crosshaven 0-8. Crosshaven had the better of the beginning of the second half and by the 45 minute lead by 0-12 to 1-6. into the last quarter Valleys upped their game and by the time Shane O'Leary scored Valleys second goal from a penalty lead by two points. With the game drawing to a close in near pitch black conditions a goal looked to have given Crosshaven victory but a Colm Butler point earned Valleys a replay. LADIES FOOTBALL UNDER 16 s Valley Rovers 1.07 V St. Vals 0.09 COUNTY CHAMPIONS!!!!!!! Valleys ladies footballers travelled to Bishopstown last Friday night September 22nd to take on the far famed St Vals in the County final. As this fixture was played at 8 oclock at night under lights, there was certain concerns raised before the game as our girls had never played under lights before. Our captain Carol Cremin won the toss (as she has done on all occasions this year bar 2!) and elected to play with the slight breeze and slight slope. However, be it adjusting to the lights or the occasion, we were slow to start and found ourselves down 3 points to nil after 10 mins. We gradually found our feet and settled and led by great carrys by our half forward line we got back in the game with 2 points by Orla Osullivan, 1 a free when Cliona Reardon had been fouled and Roisin OSullivan. St Vals then had 3 attacks and came away with scores. Thankfully, Valleys identified the oppositions kick out strategy and dominated possession from that point on in the half, however some wayward shooting left the end product fail. A moment of concern came midway through the half when centre back Rachel Lordon went down injured, however after a moments rest, she rallied and went on to play her usual great game. With Carol Cremin continuing to charge out from full back and wing backs Sarah Lynch and Shauna Reilly dominating the opposing wing forwards at this time, Niamh Hurley burst up the field and through the St Vals defence before being brought down for a 21 metre free which Orla OS duly converted to leave the score line at half time of St Vals 0:6 to Valleys 0:4 At half-time Valleys were dealt a blow when Shauna Reilly became ill and was replaced by Niamh Crowley (although Niamh was to prove up to the task as the game went on). For other Teams, this may have led to panic due to facing the disadvantage of hill and breeze for the second half, however time and again this year, this group of girls have shown courage and determination when faced with adversary and rallied to the cause. Corner backs Emma ODonavan and Aine Lynch came thundering into the game and we kicked our first point of the second half when Roisin OS (who won every ball that came her way) banged one over the black spot following good play fron Ellen Fennelly and Ellen Fehily. Then the vital score of the game came. Nicole Callanan picked up the ball in the right corner and soloed towards goal and planted the ball into the back of the Vals net with her left foot (this left Page 3 of 8

4 foot being another treasure discovered during the year!). Valleys now led by 2 points. Frees were exchanged between the clubs (Orla OS again) and then goalie Jane Mulivihill brought off an outstanding save and cleared her lines up the field for Laoise Collins to kick us 2 points clear and that was surely it,. or so we thought. To add to the drama the referee deemed it necessary to add 12 minutes of injury time in the second half! St Vals kicked over another free to bring it to a 1 point game. Roared on by an incredible Valleys crowd, Valleys dug in deep and the reargaurd defence led by Carol Cremin, Sarah Lynch and Niamh Hurley, they soaked up the onslaught which came without giving away a point from play for the whole second half and ably helped up the field by Caoimhe McCarthy and Grace ODwyer in the final seconds, the referee eventually blew the whistle, which led to incredible scenes of joy, which completed a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for this team who only won their first league game of football at u14 level. Captain Carol Cremin received the cup and thanked the great Valleys support that came out that night and also the coaching group of John Hurley, Denis Mulvihill, Mary Cremin and Gary Lynch for all the work they had put into the team during the year. fantastic during the year, various Valley Rovers clubs in general for support throughout the year and specifically the Ladies football club for helping making this possible (coaching courses, Gaelic4Teens trip to Croke Park, fundraising, late night committee meetings (u know what I mean!) and leadership from the top) Valleys ABU!!!!!!! CAMOGIE SENIOR B CHAMPIONSHIP Valley Rovers 0-12 V s Ballinhassig 1-11 Like everything, it was important to celebrate properly and it was back to Innishannon, beeping horns through the village and into Barretts for well-earned refreshments! We would like to thank the panel of 26 for being Our senior B girls played their final round robin game on Sunday against Ballinhassig in Castle Road. Valley Rovers altough already qualified for the semifinals set out to maintain their 100% record in the championship.this was a tight game from the throw in with little between the teams throughout the first half with both teams scoring some good points. 5 However Ballinhassig scored the vital score a goal midway through first half to give a two point advantage at the half time whistle. Ballinhassig 1-5 Valleys 0-6 The second half continued as the first half ended with little between the teams. However our girls as hard as they tried just couldn't draw level, and Ballinhassig held on to win by two points. The result meaning that Ballinhassig now qualify for the semi's also. On the other side of the draw there are fixtures outstanding with a possible playoff. So the semi finals won't be for a few weeks, our social media platforms will be updated on when the semi's will be. They started brightly with two quick points from Adam Walsh Murphy. Further points from Aaron O'Leary, Darragh O'Shea and Adam Kenneally saw valleys lead at half time 0-8 to 0-1. Valleys kept up the pressure and a superb Ronan O'Connell goal set the tone for the second half. Further goals from Darragh O'Shea and Cian Crowley and points from Aaron O'Leary and Eoin Nash saw Valleys run out winners 4-13 to Valleys now meet Glanmire in the final next Saturday at 3pm in Carrigaline. More photos from the day can be found on the club website Street Leagues Please see above a photo of the U9 Valley Rovers team at St. Finbarrs pitch where the 20 (2x10) played Finbars last Saturday in football. Two teams were fielded. Both teams did very well fighting for every ball, marking well and on the day winning both matches. FUNDAY Valley Rovers juvenile club held its annual sponsored walk, parish leagues and fun day last Sunday in the Bleach. The club would like to thank everyone who helped to make the day such a success. A special word of thanks to Tim O Sullivan of Clash Awards for his very generous sponsorship of the medals for the parish leagues and to Barry O Sullivan Centra Innishannon for kindly sponsoring party bags for all the children. Thanks also to Giggles Creche for their continued support of the Academy, to Chris O Leary for presenting the medals, Kevin Murphy for doing his MC and music duties, and to everyone who lent a hand with organising the matches, helping with the catering, supervising the activities, and to anyone who helped out in any way. Valley Rovers would like to thank Marie and Bernice for their generous support, which has helped to make the Academy such a success. *IMPORTANT NOTICE* INNISHANNON PITCH UNDER REPAIR will stick to their shoes, boots or runners and the seed will become displaced causing uneven grass growth, which will affect the quality of the eventual grassed pitch surface. All mentors and teams are hereby being asked to walk around the seeded area to avoid damage, to get to their training / playing location. Fencing has been erected to guide you, to avoid walking on the seeded areas. Training and games should occur as far away from the seeded area as possible, to avoid balls / sliotars going on to the seeded area, resulting in players / mentors having to walk on the seeded areas to retrieve the balls / sliotars and therefore causing long term damage. If club members do notice anybody walking on the seeded area, please ask them to stay outside the fenced off area. The purpose of the works was to rectify damage to the pitch following a flood event. Whilst we were completing the rectification works, we have taken the opportunity to widen and realign the pitch. The existing goalposts have been taken down and will be painted and will be re-erected, in early course. New pitch lighting will also be erected along the sideline, nearest the dressing rooms / Parish Hall. Your cooperation in relation to the above is appreciated in advance. Valley Rovers GAA Grass seed has been set in the Bleach pitch, in the area that has been worked on recently. It is important not to walk on the area that has been seeded, to give the seed a chance to germinate; over the course of the next few weeks.
