Carrigdhoun U21 Hurling Cup Round 1 Valley Rovers took on Ballygarvan in Round 1 of the Carrigdhoun U21 Hurling Cup. The Rovers dominated in the first and second half with goals coming from Mark O Leary, Sean Lynch and 2 from Sub Tomas Sweetnam, leaving the full time score Valley Rovers 4-18 Ballygarvan The Rovers now play Ballinhassig in Round 2 on tonight Monday 25th. U18 C3 Hurling League Valleys minors welcomed Sarsfields C3 hurlers to Brinny last Thursday night. Valleys started brightly with a goal from Conor Taheny and points from Brian Hoey and Misco Savic. Valleys led at half time 1-5 to 0-1. The second half was more competitive with Sars coming into the game. A goal from Cathal Cronin and points from Conor Taheny kept valleys in the lead. Valleys conceded a goal and some late points with Sarsfields running out winners 1-12 to 2-7. This was a game that got away from us. Subs used: Cathal Cronin, Jack Hourihane, Brian McCarthy. U18 P2 Football League Valleys P2 minors travelled to Togher on Sunday morning to play The Barrs. Short a number of first team players valleys fought hard in this game against a strong Barrs team. With a goal from Eoin Nash and points from Cathal O Sullivan and Mark O Leary valleys were behind 1-3 to 1-8 at half time. Second half points from Cathal O Sullivan, Brian Hoey and Mark O Leary kept the score board ticking over. 3 U14 Hurling Our U14 s hurlers played top of the table Carrigtwohill on Friday evening last in the P2 hurling league at The Bleach. Valleys started strongly and played some good hurling throughout the first half to lead 2-07 to 0-10 at halftime. In the second half Carrigtwohill came into the game and drew level mid way through the second half. There was very little between the sides over the closing stages but Valleys will rue a number of missed chances from play and placed balls that ultimately allowed Carrigtwohill to record a one point victory in the end on a final scoreline of Valley Rovers 2-10 Carrigtwohill In the C3 hurling league also played in The Bleach on Saturday morning, Valleys had a good win over Courcey Rovers on a score of 4-07 to Well done to a number of our players who played in this local derby after a hard game the previous evening against Carrigtwohill. Thanks also to the U13 s who participated in our C3 game against Courceys. U10 Football The U10 Team hosted Kilbrittain in a Football challenge game in the Bleach last Saturday morning. After working hard on their football skills in training lately, the team showed lots of improvement from their last outing. Two teams competed with one game won comprehensively & after a hard fought battle, the other team came away with a win also. U13 Hurling & Football The U13's are currently enjoying a well deserved summer break, after finishing strong before the break with wins in both C3 Hurling V Ballincollig & P1 Football V Bishopstown. This put them in a good league position going into the break. It has been a tough first half to the season with lots of games & training but as always they are showing great determination & dedication. Colm Crowley, G.D.A, from Rebel Og has organised a training schedule in Bandon for 7 weeks, with some of the lads opting to take part before Valley Rovers training resumes on the end of July. Thank you to all parents who have assisted and for your continued support on match days. U12 Hurling League Our U12 hurlers played Carrigaline on Saturday afternoon last in Brinny in the Premier 2 hurling league. Valleys got off to a great start dominating all over the field and registering 0-9 before Carrigaline got their first point. We continued to play some great hurling in the second half and won comfortably in the end on a score of Valley Rovers 1-12 Carrigaline We now have a break in league action for July/August but will be organising a number of challenge games during this time and training will continue from 6 to 7.30pm every Tuesday evening in Brinny throughout the summer. 4 U8 Hurling Last Saturday, the under 8 boys joined in a hurling blitz organized by Courcey Rovers. The boys were up for the challenge with the fantastic weather, their winning spirits and results. They showed off to Kinsale and Courcey Rovers their latest training and newly acquired skills with great lifts, blocks and passes. It was smiles all round at the end of a great hurling-morning! Congratulations to Valley Rovers players Daire & Eimear Kiely who were part of the Cork Senior ladies football panel that won the Munster Championship final in CIT on Saturday last, beating Kerry on a scoreline of Cork 5-13 to Kerry Having just completed their Leaving cert exams, the girls have been drafted in to the cork panel & will now continue forward with the team into the all Ireland championship stages. 5 U9 & 10 Camogie The U9 & 10 girls hosted Ballincollig in a challenge game last Saturday morning in Brinny. Two games were played with all players showing great skills & performing excellently. Well done to all. Team 2 U7 & 8 Camogie The U7 & 8 girls travelled to Bishopstown on Sunday morning last to participate in a Go games blitz organized by the host club. Carrigtwohill camogie club were also present, with all 3 clubs fielding two teams each. Both Valley Rovers teams performed excellently & were very competitive over the 3 games each team played. A lovely morning of camogie was had by all, with thanks to Bishopstown Camogie club for hosting & the refreshments afterwards. 11 Campa Spoirt as Gaeilge Bandon Tuition Centre is running a Sports Camp as Gaeilge to cater for First and Second Year pupils who do not wish to attend residential Irish Summer Colleges. The aim is to provide fun and games while improving the standards of our National Language. Full details are included in the attached flyer and application form. 13 Valley Rovers History Valley Rovers are in the process of gathering information with the view of recording the History of Gaelic games in the parish in a book. This project is covering all aspects of Gaelic games, be it Hurling Football, Camogie and Ladies Football. If you have any memorabilia, pictures, old medals, old minute books in your procession, old AGM reports etc or equally important, any historical information we would greatly appreciate if you would share it with us. We have set up an address valleyrovershistory@gmail.com that you can any items. Also we will be in Innishannon Hall on Re-fixed Date to be Confirmed For people to come and bring any interesting items which we can scan & photograph so you can take your items home again.
