2 Senior Hurling Championship V s NaPiarsaigh: 31/07/2015 Erin s Own 3-19 Na Piarsaigh 2-18: What might have appeared to be a stroll in the park for favourites Erin s Own when they turned over at halftime with a 14 points advantage ultimately proved to be a struggle to gain their quarter-final place in the Cork SHC at Pairc Uí Rinn last evening. A storming second-half recovery from Na Piarsaigh brought them to within a goal in injury time and the East Cork side were relieved to see top scorer Eoghan Murphy win a close-in free before a final act of drama with Na Piarsaigh free-taker Keith Buckley hitting a 30 yards free against the upright. Winning manager Martin Bowen conceded they were lucky to win, commenting: there was a strong wind out there.stronger than you d think. It was a game of two halves and we would consider we were lucky to get out of it. In the final analysis what proved decisive was the goal scored by corner-forward Maurice Carroll in the 40th minute and impressive goalkeeping from Shay Bowen, whose brother Alan was one of their stars in attack.the foundation for the Erin s Own victory was laid early in the game, once they had begun to impose their will on the game after an opening ten minutes noteworthy for three Na Piarsaigh wides before Stephen O Sullivan got their opening point. That came in the eighth minute, by which time Erin s Own had four points on the board. In general play, Erin s Own were winning more ball around the middle of the field and more forceful in attack where Bowen and Maurice Carroll in the corners were to play major roles, along with expert freetaking from Eoghan Murphy. The city side did promise for a while, with Ronan McGregor getting in some good work in the half-back line and Keith Buckley probing on the right flank in attack, but, in comparative terms, the return from their overall efforts was minimal. The difference in standards was highlighted when Alan Bowen got the first goal for Erin s Own after 18 minutes and Maurice Carroll son of former Limerick star Mossie Carroll followed suit with a terrific solo effort. Followed quickly by a point from Stephen Cronin it put them 10 points clear and Na Piarsaigh s only real attempt at a goal was foiled when corner-back Cian O Connor made a vital interception. At the break it was 2-14 to 0-6. With a few positional switches and a much more determined approach, Na Piarsaigh were encouraged by an Ian McDonnell goal within four minutes and, after Carroll s goal, Erin s Own were to be restricted to four points after Carroll s goal. And they were grateful when Shay Bowen made the first of two crucial saves at the three-quarters stage. The city side were winning much more possession all over and were boosted by the introduction of subs Padraig Guest and 16 year-old Eoin Ó hainfin, who was to get their second goal in the 62nd minute. Keith Buckley was unerring in his free-taking and they steadily narrowed the deficit to the stage when only a goal separated the sides. After that, anything could have happened but Eoghan Murphy s late, late free settled the issue. Scorers for Erin s Own:E. Murphy (0-10, 5 frees, 1 65); M. Carroll (2-2); A. Bowen (1-5); S. 4 East Cork Junior A Hurling Championship QF Erins Own 2-14 St Ita s 3-16 Midleton was the venue for this junior hurling championship clash against St Ita s, the day was dry but there was a strong wind blowing which we chose to play against in the first half, Cathal Heavy opened the scoring for Erins Own with a goal in the first five minutes, Peter Kelly hit three fine points from play & one from a free before the break, the on form James O Carroll put over two & Diarmuid O Flynn & Ian O Mahony both adding a point each, Ita s were hurling well & went in at the break a point up, Erins Own 1-08 St Ita s 2-06, The second half saw Peter Kelly hitting another four points (3 form frees 1 from play) James O Carroll was still hurling well adding a goal & a point & Kevin Fenton hitting a point but wasn t enough to stop Ita s who were the better side on the day, to be fare to Erins Own Stephen Horgan, Andrew Power & James Carr were a big loss & if all 3 were available it might have been a different result, all the best to St Ita s. 5 East Cork Junior A Football Championship 11/09/2015, Erins Own 2-12 Midleton 0-05 A doubt was cast over the playing of this semi final game against Midleton due to the heavy rain that was falling, but the pitch in Youghal was well able to take any rain that fell on it & it was in great condition, Erins Own got off to a dream start with Mossie Carroll kicking a point & finding the net with in the first five minutes, Shane Murphy, Eoghan Murphy & cian O Connor all pointed & Stephen Lee on form again with his free taking added two more points to give us awell deserved lead at half time of 1-06 to 0-02, The second half was more or less the same with Erins Own in the driving seat, Kieran Murphy & Mossy Carroll were well in control of the middle of the field, Daire Dennehy, Andrew, Shane Murphy, all added a point each, Captain Cian O Callaghan added a goal & a point & Stephen Lee again kicking another two points to give Erins Own a strong win & to march on to the East Cork final were they a wait the winners of Doungourney & Fr O Neil s. Erin s Own 0-16 Carrigtwohill 0-8 (Cork County SHC): 30/08/2015 Having had genuine penalty claims waved away by referee Nathan Wall in each half, Carrigtwohill s frustration with the Carrigaline official reached boiling point when Niall MacCarthy received a straight red card on 35 minutes for kicking out at Erin s Own full-back Shane Murphy. Kidney, to be fair, had no quibbles over the outcome, but there was no holding back when his opinion was sought on the decision to dismiss former Cork hurler McCarthy. We had a man sent off which I thought was a very, very soft incident, he said. We were never going to come back from that. I am not happy with the refereeing decisions there at all. It was absolutely atrocious. I just couldn t explain it. If you go down to any other county, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Clare, any of these serious teams that are going well, look at their referees. Is it a wonder Cork hurling is kinda so soft at the moment because the way referees are refereeing? That referee was just not up to scratch for senior hurling. He was not up to senior hurling standard. We were probably still going to be beaten despite the referee fairly. You go up to Kilkenny, Tipperary and Clare, and we played challenges against clubs from these counties a lot this year, it is a lot harder, a lot tougher because [the referee] is leaving a lot more go. Level five times in the opening half, McCarthy s sending-off arrived at a critical juncture early in the second period. Ahead by 0-8 to 0-5, Erin s Own gradually tightened the noose thereafter sub Robbie O Flynn (0-2), Killian Murphy, and Alan Bowen splitting the posts approaching the final quarter.jay Horgan set up Darren O Driscoll on 50 minutes for Carrigtwohill s first point in 24 minutes of action. It provided but momentary respite.with Alan Bowen and Sean Kelly dominant around the middle, and Shane Murphy sweeping effectively further back, Martin Bowen s side had long since entered cruise control.

6 The lively Eoghan Murphy (0-2), Kieran Murphy, and Mark Collins swelled their tally to round out a second comfortable championship win over their East Cork neighbours, Carrigtwohill s several late raids on Shay Bowen s goal proving fruitless. It was a battle, said Martin Bowen. In fairness to the players, they dug in and we are happy to win. Carrigtwohill had nothing to lose coming in off the last day, whereas we had an awful lot to lose. It is difficult when you beat a team by such a big margin, especially when they have been going well since and brought in new management. Scorers for Erin s Own:E Murphy (0-5, 0-4 frees); Kieran Murphy, A Bowen (0-3 each); M Collins, R O Flynn (0-2 each), Killian Murphy (0-1). Scorers for Carrigtwohill:T Hogan (0-2 frees), R White (0-2 each); N Furlong, N McCarthy, S Rohan, D O Driscoll (0-1 each). ERIN S OWN:S Bowen; C O Connor, S Murphy, C Dooley; S Cronin, Killian Murphy, C O Mahony; A Bowen, S Kelly; Kieran Murphy, J Sheehan, M Collins; M O Carroll, E Murphy, C O Callaghan. Subs:R O Flynn for Sheehan (HT), S Morgan for O Callaghan (51). CARRIGTWOHILL: We felt that if we kept it tight early on and didn t concede goals, we would come out on top. And never did their well-organised rearguard look like being breached. Identifying Niall McCarthy, Robert White, and Darren O Driscoll as the danger men, Erin s Own s Shane Murphy, Cian O Connor and Cormac Dooley led the charge in nullifying their impact. Not that Carrigtwohill did themselves any favours by the manner in which they set up. Opting to deploy Jason Barrett as a sweeper, Kidney s charges struggled to impose themselves in the final third of the field.. Their distribution out of defence bordered on atrocious, with loose man Shane Murphy mopping up an amount of ball. Indeed, if the sliotar wasn t rained aimlessly in his direction, it was launched down on the double-marked Darren O Driscoll on the edge of the square. S Devlin; P Hogan, A Garde, P O Sullivan; C O Connell, N Furlong, M O Riordan; J Horgan, L O Sullivan; S Dempsey, J Barrett, T Hogan; R White, N McCarthy, D O Driscoll. Subs: M Fitzgerald for S Dempsey (36), S Rohan for T Hogan (52), S Roche for O Sullivan (58). Referee: N Wall (Carrigaline). By Eoghan Cormican And while the winners didn t score from play until Kieran Murphy s 16th minute strike Eoghan Murphy swatting three frees inside the opening quarter they were far more economical in attack. Mark Collins clipped over a fine effort on the right wing and though Tomas Hogan tied proceedings for the fifth time, Kieran Murphy and Alan Bowen raised a pair of white flags before the call for half-time to send Erin s Own on the road to victory.

7 Well done to Erins own s Shay Bowen on receiving the Reardans bar player of the round for his outstanding performance against Carrigtwohill in this SHC Q/F Senior Hurling Championship Semi Final V s Sarsfields 27/09/2015 Erins Own 1-13 Sarsfields 0-16 It was a tight affair throughout this senior hurling championship semi-final clash against our neighbours Sarsfields, from the off it was point for point, Mark Collins opened the scoring for Erins Own with a nice point from the wing, Eoghan Murphy was spot on with his free taking for the hour, before the break he pointed 2 from play, 4 from frees & 1 from a 65, Erins Own backs were hurling well with Cathal O Mahony in fine form, 8 points apiece at half time, Robbie O Flynn was introduce at the break who brought a spark of life to the attack when adding a point, the real excitement came in the 43 rd minute when Erins Own were awarded a penalty & Eoghan Murphy making no mistake in finding the net to give us a 3 point lead, Sars pulled back two points & then were awarded a penalty which saw Shay Bowen save & deflect over the bar, Stephen Cronin pointed & Eoghan Murphy added another 3 points from frees, which saw the game ending in a draw, Erins Own looked to be the better team, but Sars never left them pull away & had their own chance to win the game with a last minute Cian McCarthy free trailing wide in to be the last puck of the game, Cathal O Mahony deserved man of the match with another fine performance, Shay Bowen made some fine saves when called on, Kilian & Shane Murphy put in a strong game, Cormac Dooley & Sean Kelly also played well. 8 Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Final Replay 03/10/2015 Erins Own 1-14 Sarsfields 4-15 An evening meeting under lights was chosen to decide the semi-final replay of the senior hurling championship, from the start Sars were off to a dream start with a goal & two points on the scoreboard in the first eight minutes, it took Erins Own ten minutes to notch up their first point from an Eoghan Murphy free, Kieran Hero Murphy hit two points from play & Eoghan adding another two from frees, both sides were hurling well with Shane Murphy & Cormac Dooley solid in defence, Sars hit another four points to leave the difference at the break of a goal & a point Sars 1-06 Erins Own 0-05, straight after the break Erins Own looked to be in good form with a Mark Collins point, But Sars goaled soon after, Kieran Murphy added another point for Erins Own & three points from frees from Eoghan Murphy narrowed the gap to three points but goals when games & that s what Sars got a third mid ways in the second half at this stage the gap widened to seven points, both sides continued to exchange points with Eoghan Murphy hitting two from play, a life line then came when Eoghan Murphy netted from a penealty in the 24 th minute & points from Alan Bowen & Andrew Power brought the gap back to four points but Sars continued to notch up points & sealed their victory in the 31 st minute with a fourth goal to put the game beyond reach from Erins Own & to put them into another county final were they seek a fifth title since `08 a remarkable achievement for any club, Shane & Kilian Murphy, Cormac Dooley, Sean Kelly & Robbie O Flynn played well on the night for Erins Own. 10 CONGRATULATIONS TO NIAMH MURPHY AND THE CORK MINORS WHO WERE CROWNED ALL IRELAND CHAMPIONS IN EARLY AUGUST. THE Well done to the Junior Ladies who are East Cork Junior C Champions for This is a fantastic achievement for the club as it is the first adult title it has won since the club was founded over 10 years ago. With the best of intentions the girls had a jittery start against Lisgoold. With most of the possession and plenty of wides the Erinsown girls went in 6 points to 1.1 at half time. Lisgoold threatened throughout the entire game and never gave up, with Caoileann Hickey making great runs from centre back and Edel Cronin winning plenty of ball upfront. YOUNG REBELLETTES HAD A COMPREHENSIVE WIN OVER GALWAY IN SEMPLE STADIUM. Mid-Term Camp East Cork Junior C Champions For the Erinsown girls it was their strength and perseverance that paid off, some great runs from Clodagh Lane and Gilda Healy lead to some fantastic scores from Emma Wallace. Emma Coughlan came the whole way up the field to take a penalty which she scored on the rebound. Ann Marie Lenihan and Niamh Murphy mopped up all the loose ball around the middle of the field. Well done to all the girls and mentors involved. A special thanks must go to everyone who helped out in Caherlag that evening, lining the pitch, the umpires, lines men, all the supporters who came to watch, and the tri colour was even raised for the special occasion. Two fantastic days were had at the mid-term camogie and football camp in Caherlag. This was one of the many fundraisers for Strictly Erinsown. The girls got a great opportunity to show off and practice their camogie and football skills. Special thanks to the minor girls who were brilliant coaches, and to Kitty Cogan and Sinéad Flavin who ensured everything ran smoothly. The girls were delighted to get a visit from the All Ireland Football Cup, Brendan Martin and Cork superstar Orla Finn. COME HURL WITH ME

11 ERINSOWN U10S The Junior ladies had two successful wins, in two separate competition in the space of four days. The girls travelled to Skibbereen to play a league semi-final against Caheragh. Erinsown played with a strong wind in the first half which gave them a great platform at half time. The girls held out to win comprehensively. We must give a special thank you to the O Donovan Rossa Club who greatly helped us out, after we left some vital equipment in the car park in Caherlag!!! We would also like to thank all the supporters who made the trip back west to cheer on the girls. Dave O Mahony & Mary O Riordan dancing at strictly 2015 Junior C League Champions Just three days later the Junior Ladies had to tog out again to play the first round of championship, at home this time to Carrigaline. This was an extremely exciting, eventful and sporting battle with the Erinsown girls coming out on top with just one single point to spare. Michael Mulchay & Michelle Scanlon at Strictly 2015 The Junior ladies travelled to Clon to play the second round of their a County Championship, on a cold and windy July evening. Playing against the wind in the first half the Erinsown girls had a great start. Niamh Murphy made great runs up the field to create scores. Clodagh Lane adapted superbly to her new position at centre back, flanking her was Ann Marie Lenihan who was as solid as ever.

12 The Erinsown full backline were inspiring to watch, Leah Soden, Allie O Neill and Ciara Fenton, three young players who won ball in front, harassed, tackled, and blocked everything that came near them. Louise Horgan and Melanie Dooley came on in the second half and settled right into the game. They looked for the ball and played crucial roles in developing the attack in the forward line. The girls then qualified for the quarter final of the Junior C County by beating Bandon in a thrilling game by only 5 points. This was a repeat of last years 13 a side A County final. Both teams started well steadily scoring away. Caoimhe O Callaghan, Deirdre Cottrell and Emma Wallace adding to the score sheet for Erinsown. Bandon were very strong down the middle and kept the pressure on throughout the whole game. Becky Opperman came on just before half time and scored a magnificent point in the second half. Bandon never gave up and scored a fantastic penalty in the last 10 minutes of the game, which they completed dominated. The Erinsown girls just about hung on to win the game. The girls then went on to play Rosscarbery B in the quarter final of the county, where they had an impressive win. Aoibhin Cunningham worked extremely hard at mid field against a very strong Ross pairing, while Cliodhna Bowen was outstanding at wing forward. Sophie O Neill made a few great saves and Beth Zito, all the way from Clan Na ngael San Francisco, played very well in her debut in the blue and red jersey. Special thanks to Marguerite, and all the tea ladies who put on a massive spread after the match. Our luck ran out in the county championship in early September, we travelled to Ahiohill to play our old rivals, Caheragh. Unfortunately on the night, they were the better team. Caheragh went on to lose the county final by 1 point after extra time against a very strong Dromtariff side. The county league final win against Bride Rovers was the highlight of the year. The girls lost to the Rathcormac side earlier in the season, with a lack lustre performance in the league. The pitch in Castletownroche was top class and the weather was perfect for a game of football. Anne Marie O Callaghan was the driving force in the middle of the field, scoring a fantastic goal after a run from the far 65. Clodagh Lane and Dooley were as solid as always at the back. Caoimhe O Callaghan was in her usual form, winning and distributing great ball as well as taking her own scores. Bride Rovers never gave up and threatened throughout the whole game. Emma Coughlan at full back was the top scorer of the game with two goals, even with her 10 minute rest. U13 Camogie winners of the east cork shield

13 Junior Ladies who travelled to the All Ireland 7s in Dublin ERINSOWN U12S Minors Jack Sheehan & Beth Zito at Strictly 2015 PJ Linehan & Deirdre O Sullivan dancing at strictly 2015 The minors travelled to Cloyne last Sunday in the East Cork League. Gilda Healy and Aoibhin Cunningham picked off some fantastic scores after the ball was worked superbly up the field. Katie O Brien played brilliantly at wing forward, looking for the ball and taking it on. Congrats to all involved in a super win. The minors play Youghal at home in the next round. The minor team have made great progress throughout the year and went on to win their second match of the East Cork League against Mayfield. Erinsown had a blistering start with great scores from Emma Wallace and Niamh Murphy. Mayfield had plenty of football with some very quick forwards who made fantastic runs, but were very unlucky with a few scores. Louise Horgan and Katie O Brien did trojan work in the forward line and Niamh O Connell picked off a few lovely scores. Ali O Neill, Leah Soden and Sinead Scanlon were as solid as ever in the back line.

14 The minor girls had a great win against Kildorrery in the county quarter final. The girls battled hard to come up trumps in what was a very tough game. Aoibhin Cunningham tackled brilliantly around the middle of the field, while Sinead Scanlon covered acres of ground at the back. Andrea Collins made a few crucial saves in the first half when the game was still in the melting pot. Gilda Healy gave a player of the match performance at centre forward, working very well with Niamh Murphy who was tearing up and down the field. The girls play Caheragh in the semi final on Sat the 24th of October, throw in 4pm in Newcestown. ERINSOWN U14S Kevin Collins & Ann Marie O Callaghan at Strictly 2015 Minor East Cork Champions Well done to the Erinsown minors who defeated Youghal in the East Cork Final, on a score line of 3.7 to 0.8. Gilda Healy have a player of the match performance from centre forward, covering acres of ground around the middle of the field. Niamh Murphy carried the ball very well at mid field delivering great passes in to the forward line. Sister Aoibin and Shauna Cunningham were very influential in the half back line, winning every 50/50 ball between them. Eimear Broderick gave an exhibition of defensive play at wing back while Niamh Deasy had a great game on her first day wearing the no3 Jersey. Sinead Scanlon transferred to full forward in the second half, where she scored a cracker of a goal.
