As the coming weekend of the 6 th & 7 th June is a long weekend, there are no club games being played. Good luck to any players who are representing the Miranda Bombers in the Development Squad teams playing this weekend.

AUSKICK Miranda Auskick vs. Cronulla Sharks Gwawley Oval Round 7 saw Miranda Bombers Auskick play away at the Cronulla Sharks. It was a great opportunity to gauge how our kids are progressing against the other large club in our area. Needless to say our players impressed in all age groups! The coaches were proud of the sportsmanship and efforts put in by all squads. The 5's and 6's continue to develop their skills and knowledge and are starting to link handballs and kicks together. The 7's put in another stella performance with coach Nathan full of praise for the group. For the first time this season all of the 8's were able to play against an opposition team. The 8's coaches were very pleased to see the amount of marks the boys took and the ability to run and handball through the midfield. The highlight of the day being the opportunity for the 8's to "run on" from the sheds! Another great effort from our ever improving Auskickers this week when we took on the Cronulla Sharks at Gwawley. The Sharks proved to be a formidable opposition who had some strong players but our young blokes stood up and showed good individual skill and great team play. Our standout player through the 3 zones was this week was Callum Stansell. Callum took a couple of good marks and roved the ball well... great effort Cal! Solid efforts also from Zac and Azza. Well done all. Congratulations to our award winners AWARD WINNERS U5 Zac U5 Billy U6 Liam U6 - Jacob U7 Callum U8 Ashley U8 William O Hara CONGRATULATIONS! GO BOMBERS!

U9 RED Miranda U9 Red vs. Cronulla Sharks Blue Gwawley Oval We came up against Cronulla Blue for the first time this season and unfortunately couldn't get away with a win. After a great 1st quarter where we matched them over the ground and were unlucky to be 2 goals down, we fell into a bit of a hole for the next 2 quarters and couldn't bridge the gap in the end. As has been the case for most games this year we were undermanned in terms of height, and Cronulla Blue had a few boys who were much bigger and stronger than we were, and didn't mind throwing their weight around. To our boys credit we never gave up, and like last week, we finished well with a great last quarter. Overall it was probably our most disappoining 4 quarter effort this year, and we seemd to get a bit lost for patches of the game, which allowed Cronulla to play the game their terms. Despite the score, there were some bright spots. Kai was his usual energetic self, throwing his body around and taking some saving marks in defence. Ben and Lucas did some good work, particularly up forward, and were unlucky not to be rewarded on the scoreboard. Ethan and Keiran both took some nice marks around the ground and battled hard. Ryan Thompson played well in his first game and will only improve, he should be a real asset once he settles into the team. The weekly Coaches award went to Harrison, who took some fantastic marks all around the ground, and helped us get the ball out of the centre when he was in the ruck. This game should give him a lot of confidence and he can really be a key player for us. It is a pity we have a bye this weekend, as we cannot get any continuity into the boys due to byes, washouts etc.our next match is against Ramsgate, who we beat easily last outing, hopefully we can repeat that. Go Bombers! U9 BLACK Miranda U9 Black vs. Bangor Tigers Barden Ridge Oval This week Miranda Black played away against Bangor. After a comfortable win against Bangor playing 11 a side the week before, this week we played 9 a side and rotated boys through the bench for the first time this year. The match was a good even, tight contest, with both teams finishing all square on 4 goals 3 behinds each. It was great to see boys like Mitchell, Nick, James, Lachlan S and Tom get involved and continue to build their skills and confidence. Jordan, Jack, Lachlan H, Aaron and Callum were solid contributors again. Our two best players on the day were Hunter and Ryan. Hunter won the coaches award for putting on a perfect demonstration of how to close down an opposition gun and won plenty of contested ball. While Ryan contested strongly all day, used the ball well and drew us level with a few goals when he went forward. A great all round effort from the boys!

U9 BLACK AWARD WINNER Hunter CONGRATULATIONS! GO BOMBERS! U10 Miranda U10 vs. Cronulla Sharks Green Gwawley Oval The U/10s played Cronulla Green at Gwawley on the weekend, the third time we have played them this year! Cronulla Green is the only team that has really got the better of us do far this season and that continued on the weekend. They are a talented team with good size and their skill levels were very good on the day. Having said that, our boys took up my challenge this week to work hard for each other and be first to the footy, no one could doubt the effort levels and we had some great passages of play. We matched Cronulla for a large part of the game, particularly in the first and second quarters where our defence stood up magnificently. In particular our two award winners for the week, Kai and Evan saved a number of scoring opportunities. Kai also managed to keep his goal scoring record in tact by winning a free kick and converting in the last quarter, Evan took the challenge to attack the footy and played his best game of footy for the year which unfortunately is his last as he goes on an extended holiday. This is a good time to thanks Evan's Dad, Andrew, for his help in coaching and running through the first half of the season, the boy's are really going to miss your warm up drills! All of us at the U/10s wish the Briggs family a safe and enjoyable trip. Our captain for the day, Ben, lead from the front creating a number of opportunities with his pace, particularly out of the middle. Liam M came back into some strong form with a fine allround game which is a great platform for him to build on. Sam, Kye, James, Noah B, Theo, Aidan and Noah H all competed hard all day providing a number of highlights between them. Levi and Tom carried some niggling injuries into the game but still attacked the footy the only way the know. Ethan, Jobe, Noah G and Liam C all continued their fine seasons, all particularly strong in the air. These four boys will be playing in the rep team this coming week and they should be proud of that achievement and we all wish them well carrying the flag for the Miranda Bombers.

U12 Miranda U12 Div 2 vs. Western Suburbs Magpies Olds Park, Penshurst FORFEIT U14 Miranda U14 vs. Penshurst Olds Park, Penshurst Miranda defeated by Penshurst Last weekend saw the mighty Under 14 Bombers playing against Penshurst in our Round 7 clash at Olds Park. The team tried hard and they played some good footy at times with some good efforts and as per the scoreboard, with some more accurate kicking and the ball bouncing differently, the result could have been much different. The effort levels across the team was good but realistically, the enthusiasm, determination and effort that the team showed the previous week against Glebe was only 80% there on Sunday. That comes down to consistency and this is something the boys as individuals and as a team must strive to achieve each week with their footy. If they do then the results will look after itself but more importantly their enjoyment of the game and satisfaction in their performance will improve. This group of young men can play this game and when they start to believe that and then put that into their performance on a regular basis across all 27 players then the other teams in the comp had better look out! Zac Fraser, Tim Everitt, Tim Manchester, Will Straker and Jay Scarra were tireless in their efforts and performance and never gave up attacking the ball. Up front, Alex Box, Kaleb Bland, Sam Mood and Raf Hohle did some good things and tried hard. Josh Toohey was really impressive on the wing and his performances just keep getting better and better each week. Ryan Dunkerley did some good things around the ground and Will Corcoran down back was very solid and is turning out to be a good defender. Jordan Walsh was good at full back and Steven Salom was good from defence until he unfortunately hurt his hamstring. Overall, even being about 20% down on our peak, the team competed well and at our best I know we could reverse that result against Penshurst, we just need to continue to work hard at training and on game day. I would like to thank all the parents and supporters of the team. To all the Mums and Dads who helped out in extra roles on Sunday, I very much appreciate it. My thanks go to Lyn Harvey who is an absolutely amazing manager of this great team. Lyn does a lot of work during the week and on game day organising the team to play and looking after the boys with injuries and knocks and it is very much appreciated. Go the Bombers!

Miranda U17 vs. Bangor Tigers U17 Lincoln Oval,Sutherland Miranda defeated Bangor Tigers Goals Seb 3. Liam, Harry, Matt, Tyler, Julian, Brandon 1 each. What a difference a week makes, with a few changes to playing positions and some different focus points at training we were able to take the game on from the beginning and execute a wonderful win for the club. Speaking as a coach I could not be any happier at the endeavour, courage, skill and sportsmanship both for our team and the game our players group put in today to win the match. We saw players rise to new heights, develop in their positions and sacrifice self glory for the better of their team. Seb, wow, best on ground last week and another amazing effort today, he presented again and again at CHF attacking the contest and took them on with ground ball and his 3 goals were sublime. One set shot from 50 and a snap from 40 hard to say which was better. Just great to see him applying his elite football skills and leadership in the forward line. Ben Challen, his heart is always in the right place however a free kick deep back brought the wrath of the coach and time on the bench but his turn around to play an amazing third quarter in the forward line, hard at contests attitude and sportsmanship aimed at the contests won back his teams and coaches respect helping our forward line to kick four goals in the third quarter. Ryan, didn t start in Ruck but when given the opportunity made the position his. Winning many contests Ryan was able to get the ball to his runners but deep forward in the second quarter his work on the ground along side Josh and Matt resulted in Matts goal taking the wind out of the sails of our opposition. Great to see a unit with heart to perform any role asked of him. Julian chose to play footy today rather than accept his cricket award at association level. I was stoked to see him mark a ball on the sideline at centre wing while playing forward pocket. He ran and ran in the forward line and when given a role back hit contests hard. Very quietly this outstanding athlete is growing as a courageous, skilled team oriented footballer. BTW his goal was pretty cool too. Joel, even injured managed a role on half back and was thrown into the centres ( Brandon s idea ). His play was outstanding in the midfield. Players from other teams used to try to take this superstar out but he keeps coming and today was given important roles which ended in us winning the game. His kicks, contesting, hand balling and marking along with his run helped us to win. Riley has had three games now performing a very important half back role and after half time really put the screws on his opposition. Tight checking, courageous contesting and many marking interceptions helped his team to win the match. Great to see his clever defensive play today especially his taps to space and smart use of handball and non preferred kicks to get the ball to a bomber. Josh in only his second game performed both deep back and forward and is showing a great aptitude for the game. At one point deep back he beat two to get the ball forward, Chook and I agreed we have never seen anyone contest quite like Josh did in this instance but hey it worked and his intensity at contests in the last 5 mins was outstanding. Our opposition was getting a sniff of a win and were relentless in attack so our backs were under great pressure and Josh stood up to hold them off. First thing he said after the game was, that last 5 minutes were just intense. Luckily he got drenched in the middle of the circle through the song to cool him off.

Zack also performed deep forward and back through the game and I think we saw his best game this season. His defensive play through the third quarter was pivotal to holding off the Tigers. They had the wind and the downhill slope and had a real chance to get back in the game. Time and again Zack contested against taller opposition to bring the ball to ground and move it forward. It was Zacks efforts along with all our backs which enabled us to post 4 goals to their 2 in the dangerous third quarter taking the wind out of the tigers sails. Ben Fuller continued from where he left off last week. As our tall across half back and as a senior player a coach and team could not ask for more. He contested and kept his opponents quiet, was hard at ground level, managed tackles and some awesome contested marks.i remember at training in pre season, Ben took a skilled contested mark and was congratulated, his reply was I never do that well I think with his rising confidence and form we have seen him take some extraordinary marks and look forward to many more. Ben went away with best and fairest votes from me for his important role in this game, always been good deep back in previous teams its great to see him shining as our Centre Half Back. David returned to footy today and was welcomed back thoroughly. Nearly managing two marks deep forward there was a bit of rustiness which we will shine off but when the ball was on the ground he didn t miss a beat, getting his head over the ball and contest many times. With a sore back he went on again toward the end after Hunter rolled his ankle and got straight back into the contest showing courage. Great to have David s team oriented play back at the bombers and great to see that big smile. Hunter for many years has been known as the dangerous full forward teams have to shut down but toward the end of last season he began to shine further up the ground and continued today utilising his size and skill to get the ball out of contests into the forward line. Resting deep back in the first quarter we saw him take three important last line marks halting the tigers forward attack and deep forward in the second he took what was for me his best ever contested mark against two tall defenders. His courage to keep on the field with a rolled ankle a credit to his team oriented attitude though I wished he d let us know. Harry showed today he is a very dangerous footballer. Using his smaller frame he was able to contest many times deep forward to bring the ball to ground and managed a great goal. For me though it was his work in the last 5 mins of the game that stood out. Harry was supposed to be playing forward pocket but with great game sense he could see the centres were tiring so he worked to get further up the ground to help out. On centre wing he attacked a contest with first, second, third and fourth efforts. He kept the ball in front of him and when their Ruck man managed to grab it Harry laid on a perfect tackle resulting in the ball going out and the Ruckman Hobbling. Outstanding tough footy from one of our youngest players. Sometimes I feel its a shame he doesn t play in his own age group as I think he would be a gun centre but we are very happy to have him and his tough team oriented attitude. Jack and Matt both showed today a big improvement in the forward line and on the wing. Their half forward roles are very similar as is their skill sets and their understanding of defensive play from years of experience playing back was a major contributor to them being able to lock the ball in the forward line. Both presented well for their centres and got up the ground when we were coming out of defence. Great to see their development in kicking too, Jack kicked long drop punts on the run many times and Matts set shot was relaxed and true. They are also getting great sense to help out Seb getting forward of contests and running in support of their Centre half forward. Tyler showed today he is a game changer. His work on the wing throughout the game was tireless and clever. If he couldn t mark then he tapped to advantage and often crumbed his own tap. He relieved the centres through the day but on the wing in the last 10 minutes of the game his work rate to get defensive sides of contests and cut off the tigers forward movements was extraordinary and I am sure frustrating to our opposition. Multiple Marks and some big strong kicks under pressure from contests helped his team to todays win.

Liam has been on the wing from the start of the season and again today he played a tough uncompromising game from there. Using his running ability he helped in defence and even managed a goal up forward. His development over the season saw him today relieving Dom as our rover and I felt he didn t miss a beat there either, tough at the ground ball and getting it to advantage on many occasions. Brandon, great to have him back and see his development growing through the elite football he has been involved in recently. His defensive work and ability to get behind contests to add outside run was great to see as was it great to hear his voice through the game directing players. He took multiple marks and was always dangerous disposing forward kicking a nice goal. Dom. best on ground in my estimation. Firstly he started well roving the packs like a seasoned pro and showed courage to put his head over the ball. Thing is he just got better through the game. I am sure he would have ended high on all stats had we kept them as he just kept getting more and more of the ball. His leadership was also special today rallying the team together in the breaks and giving great advice to his mates. Seems we have a few very classy rovers to interchange now which is an exciting prospect for the team. Ben Lamb, kept his outstanding form in the centre today showing leadership to play in the middle through the whole game. Multiple hard ball gets, marks and tackles his game also deserved Best and Fairest votes today. His development as the captain has been impressive from the start of the season and he keeps building his leadership qualities, yes he s playing great footy which is what we need from our captain but also shows understanding for his team mates when they make mistakes, has great advice before the game and at breaks and shows humility as well. A deserved captain, I am excited for his future footy. A lot of the boys had to run off to work so we didn t get much of a post game chat. It was satisfying to see everyone put into the game what we had talked about and developed on at training through the week. To come away with the win with virtually no bench and to change our game plan showed just how smart and focused the playing group is and can be. To get on top early was satisfying as was our ability to kick away against the wind and slope of the ground in the third quarter. In the last quarter we had injuries and a lot of tired bodies, players stood up though and took on important roles off their own device. Well done Bombers, you deserve the long weekend off and then we put in for the mid season run toward the finals. Goals Seb 3, Liam, Harry, Matt, Tyler, Julian and Brandon one each. Thanks to Chook, Michael and Andy on the bench. Scotty in goals and John on the boundary. Thanks to all parents getting out in the cold to barrack the boys. Go Bombers Cam
