Round 5 Match Reports Auskick sponsored by : Footy in the fog was how we started on Saturday morning, but it soon cleared and we had four great games of footy at Gwawley Oval against Cronulla. It was a fantastic turn out with every one of our Miranda Bombers Auskick players there ready for a fantastic game. The boys are all improving week by week and did a great job this week in staying on their feet to keep the running game going. The award winners this week were Evan Briggs, Ryan Frearson, Lucas Wilbers and Jaz Cheek. Congratulations boys. Well done. Go Bombers! Page 5

Under 10 sponsored by : We've been lucky with the weather so far this season. While quite chilly at 8am at Olds Park, the bright blue sky set the boys up for a great morning of footy. We are starting to see the boys gel as a team, this shone out in the number of times they went coast-tocoast with straight kicks and good marks to leads. Again, thank you to the boys who helped out by turning the jumper inside out and providing numbers for the opposition. Here's some comments on each of our little stars; Sebastian Wilburs - came out of the blocks like a young Jude Bolton with nice clean hands in the backline and direct kicks through the mids into the forwards. Also seeing some great marks across the ground. Was in everyhthing early. Sam Braine - strong in the midfield early in the game and shone in the third quarter with a nice mark in the mids for direct kick into the forwards for a shot at goal by the bombers Michael Sinclair - great effort at the ball through the midfield early in the game. Covered his man well in the backs in the third and a nice strong mark and kick forward was the starting point of one of our coasti-tocoast goals. Harvey Crossan - contested well for the ball in a congested midifield in the first. Did not slow his effort at the ball when asked to help out the opposition in the third Sam Croucher - one of Rhino's best games so far. Strong across the park for four quarters. Clean hands and quick delivery into the forwards for a team goal in the second, then happy to do the hard work in the backs in the final quarter. Lachlan Daly - searching for the ball through the midfield and at the contest through the backs. Starting to find his feet amongst the bigger boys Xavier De Domenico - some nice clean delivery through midfiled into the forwards early and nice smother in the first. Strong mark in the forwards in the second for a goal then some strong defence in the third. Peter De Leeuw - solid game, good delivery into the forwards in the first. Strong mark in the midfield in the second and delivered into the hotspot for a team goal. Strong possessions in the third across the park Harry Gray - loves playing as the second tall in the ball-up. Ran well for some strong contested possessions across the midfield. A couple of good chest marks for delivery into the forward line. Lochlan Holloway - showing nice clean hands across the park. Good contested possessions through all quarters. The only falcon of the day in the third in the midfield but recovered with a possession and pass onto a team mate. Carson Holloway - definitely a defender. Whether while playing for the opposition or in the Bombers colours is always hard to defeat in a contest. Showed his key-man statis again with a strong showing. Harry Parker - a couple of nice long goals early and late in the game. Strong at the contested ball, trying to work out how to steal the ball in tackles without getting pinged. Quick delivery into the hotspot in the fourth set up a couple of team goals. At the contest all over the park. Hadrian Vial - some good strong marks throughout the game, particularly in the hotspot in the second for a well earned goal. Strong defensive effort in the third. Alex Wydmuch - good clean hands in the midfield with some nice hamdball combinations that lead to team goals. Continued effort in the last with a nice mark and kick. William Harrison - always there at the contest and was rewarded for his efforts with a sneaky pickup and goal in the second. Spotted up well in the goal square in the last for a nice mark and another goal. Blake Collier - played the second half through mids and forward and showed good strong effort for the ball. Ronan O'Meara - fought hard for the ball all game. Good strong mark in the goal square for a goal was just reward for the effort. Jasper Arthur - covered some miles this week. Strong efforts in the first and featured heavilly in midfield combinations that lead to goals. Again strong in the ruck and uses his booming boot to deliver into the forward line. Mitchell Everitt - some strong efforts at the breakdown rewarded with possessions and handballs to teammates. Hard at every contest. Dylan Cardiff - getting down and dirty looking for contested ball. Another one of the youngsters finding his feet with the older players. The most pleasing thing about Saturday s game was the improvement in our team work. While we have been practicing shepherding and handballs at training, it is another thing to do them in a game and it was exciting to see passages of play where one teammate would deliberately find another. As part of a team, it is important that players understand that it is more important to help your teammate out on the field with a shepherd, than it is to take the spectacular mark. Page 6

Under 12 sponsored by : Miranda , Cronulla Round 5 had the Under 12's playing against the undefeated Cronulla side. Cronulla is a very good side and deserve their number one place on the ladder. The Miranda Bombers Under 12's side confirmed that we are a good AFL team by standing toe to toe with Cronulla for four quarters and never gave them an inch. Cronulla had to earn every possession and goal and even though the margin was 30 points in favour of our opposition at the end of the game, I know for certain that they got a shock at how well we competed against them. The Cronulla coach was very impressed and commented on how much we had improved on the previous year, well done team. Our enthusiasm and determination were first class throughout all four quarters of the game which was really pleasing given our efforts the previous week. I was very proud of how well the team took on board the feedback from last week's game in regards to not dropping our heads if the opposition kick a couple of goals and get in front. We competed really well from the first siren until the final siren and that is what good Aussie Rules footy is about. If we can hang on to that determination to compete throughout the remainder of the season and continue to improve our skills we will have a good season. Our kicking at times let us down at critical times. Three set shots in front of goal in the second half unfortunately did not lead to any scores and all too often we made it too easy for the opposition to repel our attacks through wayward kicks and we dropped a lot of marks on the day as well which hurt our momentum and all too often lead to turn overs. This will need to be a focus at training for improvement and also by the players whenever they have time at home (only with Mum and Dad's approval and after homework is finished). Josh Harrison had a great game as captain and some of his disposals and contests for the ball showed real quality. He was ably assisted in the centre by Luke Kendrick in the ruck, Josh Moors was great in his roving role and his ability to beat the opposition with his speed and agility is a joy to watch. Jake Bennie also had a great game, his determination and courage and overall skills saw him pick up a lot of possessions. Travis Harvey did some good things in the centre and on the wing. He takes a great mark and showed this on Saturday. Tim Everitt and Tim Manchester were brilliant in defence and their attack on the ball was some of the best defence you will see. Jordan Walsh presented really well from full forward all game and with some better disposals to him I know he can take a good mark and he will kick a bag of goals for us this season. He never stopped trying which was great. Sean Nener was awesome in the centre and on the wing. His determination and courage to get to the ball was great. He can run all day and always gives 100%, well done Sean. Annie Tegg and Ellen Soffe never stopped trying and their defensive work is great. Two very special mentions must go to two new members of the club this season, Ryan Dunkerly and Zac Gifford. Both of them had their best games so far for the team and their contributions were great. Zac looked lively in the forward line this week and he showed more determination to get to the ball, please keep up the good work Zac. Ryan seemed to be everywhere and his marking, kicking and hand passing were great. He seems to always be up against bigger opposition but what he loses on size he more than makes up for in courage and determination. Keep that good form going Ryan. Well done to the whole team, we need to keep improving each week. My thanks to all parents, grandparents and supporters. The encouragement you give to the team is very much appreciated. Special mention to Byron Stone did a great job as goal umpire, Matt Manchester, Sid Walsh and Sean Parmenter all did a fantastic job of running instructions and water out to the team. Heidi Simpson did another great job as team manager and she keeps everything running smoothly each game which is great. Go the Bombers! Chris Harrison Page 7

Under 14 sponsored by : Miranda Cronulla One couldn't say we didn't create chances up forward today. We kept Cronulla in the game through our inability to convert goals even though our centres and backs controlled all game. Our inaccuracy started from the first shots. Probably we just tried too many times for the perfect long range shot going a bit much for individual glory and not doing the team things. The second quarter we got shots closer to goal but once a team misses a few the rot can set in and players tense up in front of goal. By the last quarter we had our aim right and into the wind we won the quarter and sealed the game. Seemed like we tried to make it harder for ourselves than need be but well done to the players for fighting the whole game out. For there to be so many shots on goal we need to pat all the centres and defenders on the back. Players like Joel, Matt, Paddy, Jack, Brandon, Che, Anthony, Nick, Kristian and Julian all played their positions perfectly. Holding their positions and breaking with run and skill when needed. We had a lot of players move positions at times and they all played well when given specific tasks. Andrew, Henry, Liam, Dom, Ethan, Ryan, Riley, Ben, Peter, Braydon, Harry, David and Hunter. Some highlights in my opinion include: Davids marking and presenting on the half forward line Joels run down and tackle of his opponent in the first quarter resulting in a free kick to Joel. Rileys skill under pressure in the last quarter to find team mates with kicks Kristian dominating in ruck all day Ryan's mark and goal in the last quarter deep forward Ethan's roving free forward in the last quarter Liam was a rock in defence in the second quarter Che's attack on the ball using his body perfectly Matts dominance in the centres and backs marking everything all day. Paddy's kick to kristian racking up a goal assist stat and his dominance around the centres all game Brandon taking the game on from half back. Jacks marks in the back line Nicks marking on half forward in the first quarter, he seemed to have it on a string. Anthony's grit and hardness at the ball gave the team strength from the wing in the last quarter. Ben was hard at the ball all game and marked up his opponent well Harry had a great first and last quarter roving the forward line. Andrew given a run in the first quarter went straight to the contest hard and fast. Julian relieved kristian rucking in the second quarter and did a great job. Henry did well on the wing in the third quarter keeping the ball moving as was asked of him pre game Braydon got moving in the forward line in the third quarter the way he has shown he can at training. Peters marking and ability to find team mates all game. Hunter took his tag from the play all day taking their strong defender away from the game. Dom played great as a roving forward and off half back. Shame he was injured when given the chance to run the centres. Goal scorers were 2 each for Kristian, Ryan and Harry, 1 for Nick. The man of the match award went to Matt. As well as his work in the centres and off half back he wowed us with one of his speckies for the first time this season. Great to see him in form. Thanks to our parents and helpers this week, Madeleine our manager, tony as goal umpire, Andy, John, Matt, Chook, Scotty and Seb on the bench and Ben on the boundary. A special thanks to Seb who plays in our 15's team, he had some great words for the boys at 3 quarter time. Set shots on goal practice is the order for the week, everyone needs to find some time to get to the ground with some mates and have some practice in front of goal. Keep up the good work on our game plan. There was skilful and confident movement of the ball today which says to me you are all believing in yourselves and your team mates. Go bombers Page Cameron 8

Under 16 sponsored by : Miranda Cronulla This was a disappointing score line in this top of the table clash against a well drilled and skilful Cronulla team. Regardless of the Bombers being six regular players short, it appears we were beaten on the day by a more experienced and skilled outfit that really stepped up at the right time. A few positives to take away included: Braydon Jamieson s best game of a short career to date, getting involved in the play at every opportunity and really making a consistent impact with his marking attempts, tackling and spoiling, and taking away the match award for his efforts. The emergence of Cameron Scott in his first AFL game, working hard out of the centre to win numerous possessions, marking strongly, delivering accurately into the forward line and bagging a couple of goals from close to the 50 metre mark on the run. Great to have you on the team Cameron. Tom Logan s quiet dominance in the ruck contest, as well his positioning, leading and marking in space. The consistent 4-quarter effort of Luke Murfitt, displaying real grit and determination, and will to win the ball throughout the game. Keep it up Luke. Macauley Crossan and Mitch Johnson s spoiling and marking on the backline, including two screamers from Macca in the second half, bringing the crowd alive. Mitch Ballard linking up around the wings to seamlessly move the ball forward, as well as his hard tackling, and Patrick Heptinstall s silky handpassing and effective roving. The continued reliability of Conor Soffe and Tim Maher for the one-percenters, and the emergence of Darcy Walter-Toll as a reliable utility player. Thanks again to our U15 s in Seb Lienert and Nathan Walsh for stepping up again when needed. Page 10
