3 Welcome Welcome to your 2018 Summer School s Out guide. With the summer holidays not too far away now, don t leave it too late to book onto activities taking place around the district. There are plenty of fantastic activities to get involved with your friends, from sports coaching to trips, from pool inflatable fun to kids clubs and from theatre school to dodgeball. 4 Hermitage Leisure Centre /hermitagelc Summer Camp Adventure Week 8-14 years Monday 13 - Friday 17 August 8.45am - 4pm An action packed week of sports and games including sports hall inflatable chamber, wet and wild pool session and a survival day orienteering, tent and den building, treasure hunt and surviving for the day outside using only the elements. Also includes day trip to Holme Pierrepont kayaking, assault course and stand up paddle boarding. All children must be able to swim one length. Bring a packed lunch except for survival day which includes BBQ lunch 99 for the week. Stage Stars 6-12 years Monday 30 July - Friday 3 August 9am 3.30pm A week of dancing, singing and acting, learning performance skills, building confidence and having fun. Creating a production to perform to parents on the Friday. 59 for the week. Bring a packed lunch. Alton Towers trip 8 14 years Thursday 23 August 8am pm (depending on traffic) Finish off the holidays with a great day out at Alton Towers. 5 Back to School Blowout 5-14 years Friday 24 August 9am pm Finish the holidays with a bang with the fantastic back to school blowout. This day will combine lots of the summer holiday activities into one, so it s fun and games all day and then a wet and wild pool session. Anyone under the age of 8 years old and those who can t swim one length will be in the splash pool with our session leaders. Please bring swimming kit. BBQ lunch provided. 15. 8 Hermitage Recreation Ground Mini golf Are you the next top golfer? Want to test your skills? If so, try out the challenging mini golf course! What s more, you don t have to worry about bringing any equipment as it s available from Hermitage Leisure Centre. 1 per round. Fishing lake If you enjoy fishing or have never fished before and are looking for a quiet lake to start on, why not try the fishing lake at Hermitage Recreation Ground? To fish on the lake you will need a rod licence, which you must get in advance from a Post Office Under 16s 4. Recommended minimum age is 12 years and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. The fishing lake is managed by Swadlincote and District Angling Club. 3G football pitch! Construction and creation Monday to Friday 3pm - 5pm The challenge will be to create a big picture or sculpture using unusual and alternative objects of different shapes, sizes and colours. The end result cannot be taken home, so photos will be taken as a memento of the activity. 4* per session. 24 Moira Furnace A visit to Moira Furnace is a wonderful family day out and is a must see. The 1806 blast furnace, which is an Ancient Monument, is steeped in history and is set in a wonderful country park alongside the Ashby Canal. The Joseph Wilkes barge operates at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm, and the trip along the canal is both leisurely and relaxing, taking in the local wildlife and scenery.
