2 EDLC TRUST SUMMER HOLIDAY ACTIVITY PROGRAMME 2018 Welcome to the EDLC Summer Programme for 2018 offering sports and activities to keep children and young people of all ages active during the school holidays. From football to synchronized swimming, gymnastics to hockey and athletics to pool inflatables, there s something for everyone this year. There are classes which last an hour or two if that s what suits or there are week long programmes and multi-sport camps for the more energetic. With venues across the area, you re sure to find something of interest close to you. I m delighted to recommend this exciting and varied programme to the families of East Dunbartonshire as a way to help keep our young people active and happy in a fun and safe environment this summer. 3 3 CUSTOMER STATEMENT 1. All instructors will hold the appropriate Governing Body of Sport Coaching Award. 2. East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture Trust will try to provide the same instructor for the duration of each activity. 3. Facilities will be clean and fit for the purpose of the activity. 4. Equipment used will be of a high standard. 5. Passport to Leisure Cards are available to all residents of East Dunbartonshire who are in receipt of certain types of benefit. All Passport to Leisure Card holders are eligible for a 50% reduction on all activities run by East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture Trust (Sports Development). 6. Refunds will be given only where East Dunbartonshire Leisure & Culture Trust cancels the activity. Such footwear must not be worn in the main hall areas of the Trust s leisure facilities. Please ensure that your child/children wear the appropriate non-marking trainers.

There s Mini Kickers, Girls Only, Football Centre, Soccer Week & Goalkeeping classes with an emphasis on fun and development in a safe environment. 8 EDLC TRUST SUMMER HOLIDAY ACTIVITY PROGRAMME COURSE DESCRIPTIONS Mini Kickers This programme was developed for children aged 3-4 years, focusing on a range of activities that are both fun and developmental. Football Centres These courses incorporate individual skills development and small sided games. Soccer Week Enjoy a great week of football fun all day, every day. These courses include skills development, fun games, small sided games and lots of fun. Courses open to boys and girls. Please bring a drink (water or still juice) and a packed lunch every day. Girls Only Classes These classes are designed for girls to come along and participate in a relaxed environment without pressure from their peers. Classes focus on small sided games, while developing the core skills of the players. No booking required. Goalkeeping These sessions are designed for those taking an interest in goalkeeping, or those already established as goalkeepers with clubs who are looking for additional specialist goalkeeping training. Players will work on shot stopping, distribution and reactions, as well as joining in with other classes for game time. Early drop off available Please note that children can be dropped off at 9am for our Football Centre or Soccer Week classes. The additional cost for this is 10 per week. 10 EDLC TRUST SUMMER HOLIDAY ACTIVITY PROGRAMME EDLC SUMMER SPORTS CAMP Now a popular feature, we are once again running week-long sports camps giving children access to a range of sports provided by EDLC sports development and local sports clubs. Each week will run Monday to Friday from 9am-4pm. There s an optional late pick up at 5 pm with an additional fee of 10. Sports on offer will include: athletics, badminton, football, hockey, netball, rugby 7 s, tennis, aquatics and gymnastics. The sample timetable shows the running order of a typical week. This will vary from week to week. 13 13 EDLC SPORTS SPECIFIC CAMPS ATHLETICS SUMMER CAMP A week-long camp looking at all aspects of running, jumping and throwing. Day 5 will involve a personal athletics challenge followed by team relays. The camp will be split into P1-P3 and P4-P7. P1-P3 will work on the fundamentals of running, jumping and throwing in a fun games-based environment. P4-P7 will experience all the main athletics events finishing up with their own athletics challenge based on UK Athletics guidelines. 14 EDLC TRUST SUMMER HOLIDAY ACTIVITY PROGRAMME SWIMMING DEVELOPMENT SUMMER SWIMMING CLASSES This year we are pleased to offer crash courses from Beginners (colour code for key) in the teaching pool to our Advanced (colour code for key) classes in the main pool as well as crash courses for adults. Over the course of the week swimmers in all classes will be taught swimming skills appropriate to their ability and be introduced to aquatic activities a fun way to learn to swim! At the end of the week the teacher will advise you if your swimmer has achieved the necessary skills to move up to the next level (where appropriate). This summer we are also pleased to have our Bespoke swimming lessons back by popular demand. This is a small class for between 1-4 pupils (adults or children) where you choose who attends. This tailored lesson is similar in principle to our individual lessons as the teacher is there for your group, however we have exclusive use of the pool. For those looking for something different we have taster courses for Mini Polo & Synchronised Swimming. If you would like further information please visit or contact the team on Booking Notes: Bookings should be made via the HORIZONS website. Please see booking guide and read terms and conditions in full before booking. Children must be 5 years old by 31 July 2018 to participate in these classes unless otherwise stated. BEGINNERS: (30 minutes) Suitable whether or not the child has attended lessons. Classes will introduce water confidence and movement whilst introducing and developing all four strokes. Pupils will also be introduced to mini polo. Booking Notes: Children must be 5 years old by 31 July No Previous experience necessary. ADVANCED: (45 minutes) For children currently at Level 5 or above or children assessed during a Beginners class. During this class children will develop stroke technique in the first half of the class and be introduced to other aquatic activities such as polo, synchro, boot camp, diving and lifesaving. Booking Notes: Children must be at Level 5 or above in our Learn to Swim Programme or assessed during a Beginners class.

15 15 BESPOKE SWIMMING: Are you looking for a small size swimming class which is highly individualised? You re in luck! Back by popular demand we are offering Bespoke Swimming where each class is tailored to your group s needs. Bespoke Swimming takes place in the teaching pool however if required please contact Swimming Development to discuss other options. You decide who attends this class (maximum 4 per booking) so gather your friends and book into this unique swimming experience. Booking Notes: Open to both adults and children with no previous experience necessary. Children must be aged 5 by 31st July Please note that Bespoke Classes are non-refundable. Please refer to Booking Notes and T&Cs of booking. MINI POLO: This course introduces the FUNdamentals of this exciting team sport. Children will learn ball handling skills, basic teamwork and of course, play games of polo! Our Intro to Polo will take place in the teaching pool and is open to non-swimmers and beginners as well, fun for everyone! Please check the timetable for any special offers Booking Notes: Children must be aged 5 by 31st July No previous experience necessary. SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING: Before children practice the synchro moves in the pool, there will be a short video session or gym session, (subject to coach availability), where pupils will have the opportunity to see or try athletes routines or shapes. Children will learn the basic skills and shapes for synchronised swimming, put these to music and perform short routines. Please check the timetable for any special offers Booking Notes: Children must be aged 8+ and be able to swim 50m of two different strokes confidently without stopping and should be confident in deep water. For safety reasons, any child who is unable to meet the swimming requirements will be removed from the class.

16 EDLC TRUST SUMMER HOLIDAY ACTIVITY PROGRAMME JUNIOR LIFESAVING: This exciting 2 ½ day course will introduce the basics of lifesaving. You will be shown the dangers of water and how to keep yourself and others safe. You will also learn when and how to rescue someone who is in difficulty through throwing recues and towing rescues and what to do should someone need emergency first aid to keep them alive until help arrives. Basic first aid will also be taught. Please note that participants must be able to swim 100 metres confidently without stopping, demonstrating at least two different strokes. For safety reasons any child that attends Junior Lifesaving, who is unable to meet the swimming requirements stated above, will be removed from the class. ADULT SWIMMING: Are you needing that extra boost of confidence before your holidays or just want to feel happy in the pool (or the sea!) or do you just want to learn something new? Our intensive crash course is for you. Over the course of four or five lessons we will introduce swim skills to meet your needs. It is an exciting, aesthetic, yet extremely demanding discipline incorporating vault, asymmetric bars, beam and floor.

Participants can drop in at any time between these hours and book activities. It offers tremendous value as well as giving juniors the flexibility of what they want to try. The pass can only be purchased on the day and provides free access to badminton, racketball, short tennis, table tennis and swimming. If there is availability you can also have a kick around on our indoor 3G pitches. Our staff are always on hand to assist with bookings and equipment. All hire charges are included and we have a café on site if refreshments are required.

The Leisuredrome s softplay area is open all through the Summer holidays, so if you want 60 minutes of fun and adventure, you know where to come! Please note that rules, regulations and conditions of Charlie s Big Adventure must be followed at all times.
