From the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino to the luxurious strip, full of EIFS, to the drive out to the Angel Park Golf Course, Las Vegas once again impressed EIMA attendees. Starting with an Opening General Session that included the Associate Member of the Year Award (sponsored by Vela Insurance Services), to the Closing General Session, headlined by Dr. Joseph Lstiburek, the 2014 EIMA Annual Meeting was a success! North Pacific EIFS Conference 7 OPENING GENERAL SESSION KICKS OFF ACTIVITIES Bill Preston Technical & Research Committee Chair In previous years, the EIMA Annual Meeting included a closing general session that included both a guest speaker and reports. This year, EIMA expanded to an additional general session to allow for more presentations and committee updates. Following an opening video entitled, EIMA Year in Review, Peter Balint and David Johnston provided updates on EIMA initiatives and the EIFS industry as a whole. Peter Balint awarded the Associate EIMA President Peter Balint addresses EIMA Membership Member of the Year Award (sponsored by Vela Insurance Services) to Wind-lock Corpo- ration for their work and dedication to EIMA, and the Mike Sweeney Press Award to Albert Carrillo for his article Barrier vs. Drainage EIFS that appeared in Walls & Ceilings magazine. Following these reports, the chairs of the four EIMA committees provided updates on what each committee had been working on over the past year, as well as updating the membership on upcoming agendas. 2 Page 2 Volume 4, Issue 3 CLOSING GENERAL SESSION The session began with recognition being given to the outgoing EIMA President, Peter Balint, who has led EIMA through some major challenges to the EIFS industry during his term with the industry, always coming out ahead. Balint announced that he will be retiring from Dryvit Systems, Inc. next year. I can t wait to hear what Lstiburek is going to say! This was the most common statement going into this year s Closing General Session, and over 100 individuals attended to find out what his presentation would be about. Between several jokes and jabs, Dr. Joseph Lstiburek, a principal of Building Science Corporation and an ASHRAE Fellow, addressed performances of the exterior building envelope. At the conclusion of the session, it was clear that everyone s time listening in was well spent. From the information that was presented, to the sarcastic jabs intertwined with it, everyone left saying, He was great! In 2013, the criterion was expanded to permit any article in a commercial media source, when previously it had been restricted to daily publi- cations. The recipient of the 2014 award was Albert Carrillo, for his article Barrier vs. Drainage EIFS, which was published in Walls & Ceilings Magazine. The article highlights the differences between the two systems, but also stresses Dave Johnston, Albert Carrillo, Peter Balint that both are highly effective exterior wall cladding systems.

3 Page 3 Volume 4, Issue 3 T HE BE AC H PAR T Y C O C K TA I L RECEPTION Dave Neff, Bill Kasik, Jesse Beitel Whether it was the Storona or the words cocktail reception that caught your eye, the Beach Party was a great chance to unwind after a day of committee meetings. As long as you were able to find the location, after the wind attempted to blow several directional signs over, the drinks were cold upon your arrival. As it always is, the reception is a great opportunity to catch up with other industry professionals, outside of the committee meeting atmosphere. It almost beat hanging out at the beach next door! The dinner immediately followed the cocktail reception, and included 60 plus EIMA members, including this year s Associate Member of the Year, Windlock Corporation. 4 EIFS Briefs Special Edition Page 4 DUNCAN CROWTHER MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT The 2014 Duncan Crowther Memorial Golf Tournament was sponsored by BASF and held at the Angel Park Golf Club. Several golfers played through some tricky wind conditions and temperatures that proved a little cooler than expected. The winning foursome of Mike Murphy, Tony Stall, Dave Neff and Phil Neff proved to be the group that did it best though, with the lowest score of the round. Other individual awards from this year s tournament were: Closest to the Pin Dave Neff, Chuck Hockensmith; Longest Drive Rick Mangan; Longest Putt John Gorman; Straightest Drive Peter Balint. Additional sponsors of the golf tournament included Dow Construction Chemicals and Parex USA. As part of the meeting, EIFS representatives from the United States, Canada, and Japan joined together for the North Pacific EIFS Conference on April 1st and 2nd. Representatives to the conference included EIMA representatives David Johnston and Bill Preston, Dryvit Systems Inc. for the United States; John Garbin, EIFS Council of Canada, for Canada, and Tadashi Abe, Msazumi Horiuchi, Shoji Igarashi, Shuji Ohashi, Yu Sakaida, Takashi Sasaki, Hideki Shibaike, and Sigeru Wakana from the Exterior Insulation Promotion Council of Japan representing Japan.
