Many of you have told us that you want to list an item but do not have the time. Now we will come to you to take pictures, write a description and list the items on the site. For details on that service please see the web site for details. We have more than a hundred residents and members taking advantage of the Virtual Garage Sale! Call right now if you want to come to Santa Brunch! The real Santa will be here again on Sunday, December 7 th at beginning at 10:30am and lasting until 3pm. It is one of our most popular events so please call to make reservations as soon as you have made plans. Please see Jason Quarles newsletter about the brown grass on the golf course. No worries there but if you want a full explanation he has it in his section of the newsletter. We will again be hosting the Iron Bowl this month in the Players Club. This is the game that features Auburn and Alabama each year and this year it will be played on Saturday, November 29 th. Come join us! All golfers, don t forget about $30 Thursdays for your guests to come enjoy our fine course. That will last until next Spring. It is not too early to think about hosting a Holiday Party here at the Club. Some of the staff here at the Cub will honor that by being a part of No Shave November to bring awareness to this very important issue. If one life is saved than all of our efforts will have been worth it. If you think we did a good job this year please be generous with our employee holiday fund. It means a lot to our folks. Bill Houck General Manager COURSE MAINTENANCE Jason Quarles This is my favorite time of the year, and we are having a beautiful fall with splendid weather. I hope you are getting out and enjoying the picturesque scenery of the changing fall leaves. BCC really has some scenic holes for this time of year. We have done a lot of overseeding underneath these views in the fescue areas. In the last two years, we have hauled in topsoil to level these areas out so that the fescue will take and do well. The whole left side of #4 (all the way up and around the green to #5 tees) is an area that we have really focused on. Due to the nature of the terrain, it has always been an area that tends to have a lot of washed-out when it rains. In order to try and fill in the washed-out areas, each year we haul in our bentgrass plugs from spring and fall aerification and incorporate our fall overseeding. This year we have taken upon our self to really clean-up a lot of areas on our golf course. Every year we make big efforts to clean-up all creek beds, lake banks, and all tee beds. Like each year, we will take this time to define and prune all of our landscape beds as needed. These are always big jobs, but they give us a different, much cleaner look. We have overseeded the clubhouse with ryegrass along with all of our Par 3 tees and winter tees on 15 & 16. In addition we have sprayed out the clumpy volunteer ryegrass from last year, so that the target greens will stand out. Also, we have planted all annual beds to give us some great color through-out winter.

We used a different type of Pansy such as Viola. These are better suited for colder winters and are noted to have a face like flower with two large upright petals and three smaller lower petals. Nonetheless, our management and ownership allowed me to get the best product out on the market, so we will be cleaner from poa annual this winter and spring. This product again is backed by Bayer, so if we do get any poa annual, they will send us free product to selectively remove the weeds without hurting the Bermuda. I know that a lot of you guys are asking what happened around the greens and bunkers? Well, I wanted to take this time to explain to you what you are seeing. It is a tinge or singe from the pre-emerge we used around theses areas. It is not a rate issue, because everything we spray is always at the low rate. If you have three rates: low, medium, and high, we always choose the low rate! You normally wouldn t see this because we would have sprayed this after a frost, and the Bermuda would have been looking mosaic from the frost or freeze. I would have noticed tinge or singe because usually I am the one who sprayed it, or I am working closely with our spray technician. The weather we have had has been a little unusual with up and down temperatures. When we sprayed it, we were dealing with a lot of days of rain. So, we had to be extra cautious because several years ago we had a heavy rain that moved the product on to the greens. That is why I wasn t able to use what we used in the fairways and tees, because it would have run on to the green killing any cool season grass it comes in contact with. This product is backed by Bayer, and I can assure you that we are fine. We are just a couple of weeks away from having that frost, and all of the course will be looking dormant. To sum up, in late February we have used a post-emerge such as Round-up to spray for winter weeds in dormant Bermuda and sometimes we got that tinge or singe look in big squares and the Bermuda always bounced back. In the summer, we spray our fairways with Primo which is a plant growth regulator, and the Bermuda gets a bronzing effect. So rest assured we are fine! Again, it is a timing thing, not rate or volume issue or even the wrong product. The Mens s division was finalized over the second weekend of October. We had several players in contention for the Senior Men s Championship after day 1. It came down to the final hole on day 2 before Mike Wylie put a stamp on the trophy. Mike made a birdie on #18 and edged out both Mike Lind and Bill Barker by one shot to avoid a three way sudden death playoff. Shotgun will start at 9:30 am. Breakfast will be available both days at 8 am and Lunch will immediately follow the round. December Events Don t forget about the Annual BCC Trunk Show and Christmas tree lighting on December 4th. After the tree ceremony the golf shop will be open complete with Wine and Cheese. There will be exciting sales and a mix of vendors for special orders. This has been a member favorite the over the last few years so you won t want to miss it.
