Santa Claus, the Grinch, Frosty, and the elves show up to help celebrate the Christmas season. We ll play 9 holes of Captain s Choice, using the elves rules* of course. After golf we ll meet in the Clubhouse for adult beverages and great food. Winners will be announced and Christmas carols sung. In the past we only partied if we played golf. This year we ll party at 3 P.M. - Golf or no Golf. And don t forget, all players will receive a $25 golf shop gift coupon. So make your own foursome or call the Golf Shop and you ll be paired. New members are encouraged to join in and celebrate the holidays Meadowbrook style! Maximum number of golfers is 128! Deadline is Friday December 19 th. *FYI the ELF rule requiring you to use the worst shot on a certain hole has been banned. The elf who required that rule has been shipped to the South Pole Awards Banquet Saturday, February 7th More information will be available in the January and February newsletter, as well as posted around the Club. RAMS The RAMS board is soliciting ideas for how to increase the number of golfers on Thursday morning. Please talk to a Board member or send ideas to bathorp@comcast.net. Save the dates of April 12 to 15, 2015 for the RAMS spring getaway to Whispering Woods and Legacy in warm sunny Pinehurst, NC. Guests are welcome. Also mark March 1 as the date checks are due to the RAMS. The RAMS will contribute the required funds for MCC to use in house resources this winter to rebuild the gold tee boxes on holes 8 and 10. An anonymous RAM contributed 50% and challenged the rest of the RAMS to match his gift. This will be done and adds another way the RAMS are continuing to improve their positive impact at MCC. The next RAMS quarterly dinner will be WEDNESDAY, January 21, at MCC at 6:00 P.M. Please come and cast your ballot in the hotly contested election of 4 RAMS officers. Also, floor nominations will be accepted for any member in good standing at MCC. ~ Ben Thorp What do these people have in common? Valerie Sarrett, Larry Green, Michelle Curley, Jim Wester, Karen Smith, Bernie Cowardin, Susan Gallienne, Lisa Cox, Keith Piper and Doug Malone have in common? If you guessed, they are the people with the highest point totals for the 2014 Golfer of the Year, you are 100% correct. It is coming down to the last events and any other qualifying factors such as a hole-in-one or handicap improvement for which they would receive points. You say a HIO will never happen. Well it did one year when someone scored a HIO in late December and won the GOY by one (1) point. The winner will be announced at the Awards Banquet on February 7 th. 2015 Meadowbrook Plan The Meadowbrook Plan is a combination of four separate plans. The Range Plan, the Cattail Club, the Meadowbrook Players Club (MPC) and a Hole-in-One Club.

7 2015 Meadowbrook Plan The Meadowbrook Plan is a combination of four separate plans. The Range Plan, the Cattail Club, the Meadowbrook Players Club (MPC) and a Hole-in-One Club. The total value of the Meadowbrook Plan is $540 when priced separately but as a single plan the cost is only $299 (plus sales tax) for a single and $350 (plus sales tax) for a family membership. Members have the option to pay in full or 1/3 in January, 1/3 in February and 1/3 in March. You can charge it to your club account, pay cash or with a check. YOU NEED ONLY TO COMMIT in December. Payment is not due until January Call the Golf Shop in December to commit because in January the price increases $50 and the golf shop credit you receive decreases to $ RANGE PLAN A Single membership allows you unlimited range balls for one low price in 2015 for $190 + tax. A Family membership allows you and all of the members of your family unlimited range balls for $300 + tax. The Range Pan is for members only and does not include guests MEADOWBROOK PLAYERS CLUB (MPC) The Meadowbrook Players Club (MPC) was established in Since then MPC members have won over $25,000 worth of merchandise from the Golf Shop! The weekly competitions start in April and continue through October. The competitions are designed to be played within flights of comparable handicaps. The events begin on Thursday and continue Friday, Saturday and Sunday. MPC members may compete one time on any one of those days. Players receive golf shop merchandise credits for these events. Meadowbrook Country Club Will be closed January 1 st to January 8 th The Club will reopen on Friday, January 9 th. Plan to join us for the GRAND REOPENING! 8 From the GREENS to the CLUBHOUSE WELCOME Communiqué from the MCC Green Committee Meadowbrook Country Club Board of Directors Last week I was playing a friendly 18 with Cookiemaker, Bird Dog and Mort when a question arose concerning a pin placement. All was well until Cookiemaker suddenly became very frustrated with his approach to the 5 th green. Expecting his shot to finish within 10 feet of the hole as usual, he found himself 14 feet away and was sure he knew why. Chad Knowles President Dang it! he said, Whoever set the pins today, did a poor job. It should have. been a yellow flag, Bernie not a Cowardin white flag. There Vice needs President to be a more consistent approach to doing this. With that said, he knocked in his third birdie. Bird Dog mumbled something about the Charlie Cookiemaker Fagan eating Treasurer Chocolate Chips while Mort and I focused on our own putts for bogey and double respectively. D.J. Well, Mort is short for Lisa mortician, Cox which Technology is a synonym for Party Planner, who is the person Mort anticipates will be leading the festivities at his retirement party at the funeral home. There is a planned consistent approach to setting the pins which I can Lori Strobl Membership explain. Our Head Green Superintendent, Steve Weedwacker has a chart which divides each MCC green into 7 defined sections. There is one section for each day Bill Wisegarver Greens of the week. Each section is not randomly drawn, but has been identified by shooting the yardage from the fairway. In some cases it may appear that pins are Cathy Witherspoon Pool & Social not properly marked, but in reality that section of the green has been previously measured from markers in the fairway. These defined sections are identified so that a mixture of front, middle and back pins are specified for each of the 7 days and the pin placements are rotated based upon this carefully planned process. Some subjectivity is associated with the location, in that a pin placement might be selected that is very close to the section line, a pin placement might be adjusted due to a section of the green experiencing a growth problem or the person setting the pins that day just feels under-appreciated and decides to take it out on the members. Fortunately, it is common knowledge that the latter issue is not tolerated by Steve. In any event, pin placements are not random, are always considered within the framework of a master plan and are always made with the best interests of course conditions and the membership in mind. I was extremely proud of my explanation and defense of what I believe to be a well thought out plan. Mort also seemed pleased by my explanation and offered a Well said when I was done. I was also expecting some affirmation from Bird Dog but unbeknownst to all of us he had not been listening and was still looking for the 6 th tee box. To my surprise, Cookiemaker listened intently to my dissertation and seemed to be very impressed with my knowledge and explanation. He nodded in appreciation and as he began his pre-shot routine again looked me in the eye and said, Well, it s good to know there is a plan. But, that pin was still poorly positioned. On Halloween Friday, October 31, the Chesterfield Technical Center Landscape and Greenhouse students under the guidance of Ms. Terry Lautzenheiser, Department Chair, treated the Gillette Garden to a fall workday. The students took on several projects as they divided into work groups with our own member volunteers. Wine will be served by Certified Wine Specialists. Dinner will be accompanied by soft piano music. Menu 1 st Course Oyster Rockefeller or Shrimp Cocktail paired with Bovet Ladubay Chenin Blanc 2 nd Course Mushroom Risotto accompanied with Smoked Duck paired with Mumm Napa Blanc de Blanc Bamboo cutting is always a favorite and the traditional Bamboo Crew cleared a large area of the tall and tenacious plants. Another team worked on reclaiming trees from ivy, wisteria and other mysterious vines. The CTC students also brought a special treat of 23 Heuchera plants, which they planted along the from Tea Trail ivy, wisteria path. More and other commonly mysterious known vines. as coral bells, these plants have beautiful foliage in addition to blooms and were a wonderful gift to our Garden shade area. Yet another team worked to give a fall haircut to our prolific perennial bed, which has bloomed beautifully all summer. Lots of bulbs were planted in the cleared areas to enjoy early spring blooms. 3rd Course Baby Spinach Salad with Mandarin Oranges finished with a Champagne Vinaigrette paired with Evolution Sparkling 4th Course Riondo Prosecco Raspberry Sorbet Everyone s love of gardening was evident as just passing by a weed ensured its removal and clippers came out of packets for a nip and a tuck to make everything neat and tidy. NEW Golf Cars are coming! Meadowbrook has decided to lease forty (40) 2015 Yamaha golf cars. This decision was based on careful consideration of price comparison, member input from the use of Demo cars and financing. The Yamaha car was selected because it offered more leg room, a more expansive roof, a better brake and shock system, accessible drink holders and a larger basket. The cars will be white with club cleaners, ball washers, sand bottles and rain covers. The cars will arrive beginning January 5 th, weather dependent. These cars will have warranties based on amp hours not a time frame warranty. For this reason car use will be carefully monitored by the golf staff.
