Potential. The word Louisville head coach Mark Crabtree uses when his team is at the center of conversation. Gone are Derek and Daryl Fathauer two of the top players in the history of the Cardinals men s golf program, and Adam Rainaud, who earned All-American honors a year ago. Behind the strength of those players, the season was one of the best in school history. The Cardinals finished fourth at the NCAA Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio, and followed that up with a school-best 10th-place finish at the NCAA Championships in West Lafayette, Ind. With All-BIG EAST performer Adam Hadwin and Lewis Kirton and Karsten Clements swinging alongside rising stars, Connor Arendall, Riley Wheeldon, Justin Dorward, Chris Biuso and Alex Lyall, the Cardinals are undoubtedly a team to watch during the season. The squad placed fourth at the NCAA Central Regional and responded by finishing 10th at the NCAA Championships. Louisville battled valiantly with some of the top programs in the country and had many individual post solid performances at the Karsten Clements Season Preview Adam Hadwin championships. Hadwin, a senior from Abbotsford, British Columbia, is the leader of a Cardinal squad that is ranked in the top 25 in the nation. The senior is coming off his finest season last year and is starting to develop as a solid No. 1 player for the Cardinals. Last season, Hadwin finished fourth on the team with a stroke average and posted five top 20 finishes, including a seventhplace finish at the BIG EAST Championships. Adam has been a solid performer for the past three years, NCAA Top 10 Finish said Crabtree. He continues to get better and will be the leader of this team. He is capable of becoming an All- American in addition to a two-time All-American Scholar Athlete. Junior Lewis Kirton is another talented player who has experience and will be counted on to tutor this young group of players. Kirton played in seven events a year ago and showed promise and the ability to be a major part of the lineup. He finished 18th at the BIG EAST Championships and was 21st at The Rio Pinar Intercollegiate. Lewis played some good tournaments for the team last year, said Crabtree. He will need to step up and become more consistent. Lewis is a key player for us this year because he has the second most experience of anyone on the current roster. He has played in some major tournaments and has played considerably well. Sophomore Karsten Clements got his feet wet last season, playing in three events, including being a key member of the Cardinals run at the NCAA Championships. He fired a third round score of 73 at the NCAA Central Regional and a 74 in the fourth round of the NCAA Championships. Karsten is coming off nice contributions to the team at the 2008 NCAA Championship along with a successful summer, said Crabtree. Karsten will get his first full year of competition this year and I m looking forward to watching his continued growth. He is very capable and is improving his ball striking and has a nice feel for the game. With the graduation of three of their top players, Crabtree loaded up with a group of five talented freshmen. Freshman Riley Wheeldon is a talented player from Courtenay, British Columbia. Wheeldon was one of the top-ranked players in the country, according to Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. He was a member of the Canadian National Developmental Team and represented Canada in several international competitions.

Riley is an impressive young man who comes to U of L with strong competitive background, said Crabtree. Riley is a solid ball striker and a good scorer. He will be an immediate impact player for our program. He owns a very strong desire and work ethic. One of the most promising players in this freshmen class is Connor Arendell, who hails from Cape Coral, Fla. Arendell, a four-time MVP of his high school squad, has the potential to be one the top players in the lineup this year. Coming out of high school, Arendell is a three-time United States Amateur qualifier and one of the top performers in the state of Florida. He finished in eighth place at the 2008 Florida State Connor Arendell Season Preview Amateur and won the 2007 Southwest Florida Am. He medaled to qualify for the First Tee Championship at Pebble Beach and placed in the top 5 in four FCWT events. Conner is a strong, impressive player with all of the skills, said head coach Mark Crabtree. He had a very successful junior and amateur career. He is also a good ball striker and manager of his game. I m looking forward to watching him on the course this season. Freshman Justin Dorward will also contribute to the cause this season. A four-time Most Valuable Player at Lincoln Park Academy, Dorward Lewis Kirton was an All-Area selection and finished second at the Florida State High School Tournament. Justin is very talented and physically our strongest player, said Crabtree. He will need to learn to score consistently, but he has a great upside and should develop into one of our best players. Another promsing Florida freshmen is Chris Biuso. Biuso is a four-time Most Valuable Player at King High School and was one of the best golfers in Hillsborough County. A two-time team captain, Biuso recorded the lowest stroke average in the district during his junior and senior seasons and was named first team All-County from his sophomore to senior seasons by The Tampa Tribune. Chris is a hard worker who should really develop his skills in college, said Crabtree. Chris is a good ball striker and is capable of making a lot of birdies. He could be the surprise player for this team and really add depth to our roster. A native of Novi, Mich., Alex Lyall is another freshmen who could contribute this season. Lyall was a three-year captain and No. 1 player at Novi High School and a threetime Division I All-State performer. He was named to the All-KVC Academic Team three times and tied for 24th in overall points for the 2007 FCWT season. A threetime MHSAA All-State selection, Lyall was also a three-time All-Conference performer Alex is solid all-around young man, said Crabtree. He is a good athlete. He can help us as he adjusts to the requirements of college golf and he should compete for a spot on the team. He possesses strong competitive instincts. The Cardinals will once again face one of the nation s most difficult schedules and will need this young and inexperienced group to jell early if the Cardinals want to advance to the NCAA Championships for the third straight season NCAA Top 10 Finish 5

Beginning his 10th season as the head coach of the University of Louisville men s golf program, Mark Crabtree has built a tremendous foundation to the Cardinals golf program. When University of Louisville Athletics Directorf the Tom Jurich hired Mark Crabtree he knew he had someone who would eventually take the Cardinals men s golf program to the next level, and that s exactly what Crabtree has done. Crabtree has the Cardinals on the national scene and the Hall of Fame coach isn t satisfied with what his program has accomplished to date. Last season, the Cardinals posted their best finish in school history a tenth-place finish at the NCAA Championships at Purdue University. Playing one of the toughest courses in the country, the Cardinals were in contention for most of the tournament and had their highest finish at the event when Adam Rainaud tied for 13th overall. The season was another in a string of solid seasons for the Cardinals under Crabtree. The Cardinals won a pair of tournaments and finished second at the BIG EAST Championships. Derek Fathauer closed out his outstanding career with two tournament wins and also finished 69th at the United States Open. He became the first U of L player to make the cut at the US Open. Last season also saw Adam Hadwin became an All-American Academic Scholar and Fathauer and Rainaud earned All-American accolades. Crabtree has orchestrated a remarkable string of successful seasons for the Cardinals. Crabtree has guided his program to four straight regional appearances, two straight visits to the NCAA Championships and a BIG EAST title. In just over nine seasons at U of L, Crabtree s Cards have posted the top five team, top seven individual, top six career stroke averages in school history and placed numerous players in the U.S. Amateur tournament. The Cardinals won a school record seven tournaments, which included their BIG EAST Championship and advanced to the NCAA Crabtree at a Glance COACHING TIMELINE Named head coach of the Cardinals in Head coach at Colorado State from TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS UNDER CRABTREE Guided Louisville to the NCAA Regionals in and to two NCAA Championships. 7 Crabtree s highest finish in a league championship since taking over at the University of Louisville. Despite the loss, the Cardinals advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the second straight season. Louisville finished 22nd in the NCAA West Regional in Tucson, Ariz. The season was one of the best in school history, as the Cardinals won a pair of tournaments and finished in the top three in seven other tournaments. U n d e r Crabtree s direction in , the Cardinals finished 15th in the NCAA Regional, just m i s s i n g advancing to the N C A A Championships. Louisville also recorded 13 top 10 finishes, 12 top 20 finishes and won a school record four tournaments that season. While Athletic Director Tom Jurich had complete confidence in Crabtree s ability to build a strong program on his own, he went a step further, as he has done with virtually every sport across the board, and ensured that his new coa-place ch would have facilities that could rival any program across the country. The Cardinal Club, the luxurious stateof-the-art home course of the Cardinals, opened in the fall of 2001 and with it began a new chapter for both men s and women s golf programs. The Tom Musselman Golf Center opened in 2007 and has all the amenties for the men s and women s golf programs. Success follows winners and it certainly followed Crabtree to U of L as his Cardinals have gained momentum with each passing season. Under Crabtree s direction, the Cardinals have raised the bar each campaign, rewriting the U of L record book at a frenzied pace. In 2003, Crabtree saw the Cardinals produce their first ever NCAA individual participant, as Brett Jones made the field. During the campaign, Crabtree s young but talented squad notched a collective stroke average, nearly six strokes better than the school record of posted by the squad in Crabtree s first season in Louisville. With one of the nation s top freshman classes and senior Grant Sturgeon in the lineup, the Cards swung their way to one of the top seasons ever at U of L. Sturgeon broke the individual season stroke record established the previous year by Chris Campbell, who twice earned All-Conference USA accolades under Crabtree, while also setting a new standard for career stroke average. Following his playing days at U of L, Sturgeon took his game to the pro ranks and promptly claimed victories in each of his first two pro events, including the 2002 Kentucky Open. Sturgeon spent the 03 season playing on the Hooters Tour. Prior to his arrival in the Derby City, Crabtree spent nine seasons as the head coach at Colorado State University. There, he saw the Ram program go from a non-scholarship program into a top 25 team and NCAA Championship entry. CSU qualified for four consecutive NCAA West Regionals under his guidance and qualified for its first NCAA Championship appearance in The Rams finished tied for 24th at the 99 championships held in Chaska, Minn. Traditionally known as a cold-weather school, Colorado State entered the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Top 25 for the first time in 1998, finishing at No. 23. The Rams also sent their first individual, Nigel Spence, to the NCAA Finals. As a result, Crabtree earned NCAA District VII Coach of the Year honors in 98. Along the way, Crabtree put together one of the nation s most competitive schedules, taking his program to elite tournaments in Honolulu, San Diego, Phoenix and San Francisco. Ram golfers responded to the challenge, posting 11 top 10 team finishes in 15 competitions in , including a second consecutive team title at the prestigious Stanford Invitational. The Rams knocked off then-no. 1 Georgia Tech on their way to the 97 title, marking the first time in school history a team had defeated the nation s top-ranked team in any sport. CSU s road to the top 25 and the NCAA Championships was not an easy one. His first class of Rams were homegrown and talented, leading CSU to four team championships, 27 top-five showings and tworunnerup finishes at the WAC Championship. Crabtree, who played collegiately at the University of Colorado, was a four-time state champion and captured six Colorado Golf Association amateur titles. He also has been a qualifier for both the United States Golf Association Public Links and National Amateur Championships. He was selected to the Colroado Golf Hall of Fame in Crabtree is married to the former Janie Huffman. 43 It s Happening Here! When the University of Louisville adopted that simple motto in the winter of 2008, it challenged itself and its community to strive for excellence. It also sent a message to the nation that Kentucky s metropolitan research university is on the verge of greatness. One of the nation s oldest metropolitan universities, U of L has a longstanding reputation in areas such as business, law, engineering and medicine. The university is building on that reputation, establishing itself as a national leader in areas ranging from the humanities to entrepreneurship, from logistics and distribution to music composition, from social work to nursing and dentistry. In 1998, U of L announced its Challenge for Excellence, a program designed to raise the university to national prominence within 10 years. Efficiency on campus has been improved in recent years and university funds have been refocused on high-priority programs. The effort already has paid off through national attention on the university and through benefits to the citizens of Louisville, Kentucky, Indiana and other areas around the nation and the world. In fall 2000, the university was one of 147 universities to achieve the Doctoral/Research University-Extensive designation from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. U of L s transplantation research program received international acclaim in 1999 after performing only the second successful hand transplant in the world. A new Cardiovascular Innovation Institute, a partnership with Louisville s Jewish Hospital, will focus on the development, testing and clinical delivery of leading-edge treatments for heart failure. The Institute for Cellular Therapeutics, which relocated to U of L from Philadelphia in 1998 as part of the Challenge for Excellence, is working on leadingedge The University of Louisville immunosuppression research that soon may lead to better, less risky transplantation procedures and treatments for diseases ranging from cancer to sickle cell anemia. U of L s entrepreneurship program, ranked among the nation s top 10 by Success magazine, has helped its students launch several successful ventures and is grooming tomorrow s business leaders. Its logistics and distribution program works with the United Parcel Service hub and other Louisville-area businesses to improve delivery systems throughout the world. Its School of Education works closely with Louisville-area schools and others throughout the state to continue refining Kentucky s nationally acclaimed efforts to reform education in grades K through 12. Through the presentation of its $200,000 Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition, U of L s music school has built one of the world s best collections of contemporary music. And U of L s Brandeis School of Law, which was one of the first in the nation to require pro bono work as part of its curriculum, boasts a student body that has won several national competitions in recent years. U of L has begun to gain recognition on the national level in a variety of ways. A Wall Street Journal article cited U of L as being among the top 30 schools in the nation for sending students to elite graduate schools. And Consumers Digest rated the university 25th in the Top 50 Best Values for Public Colleges and Universities based on academic excellence, educational quality and costs of attendance for the academic year. U of L s students also have gained national recognition in U of L ranked seventh in the nation in the number of students receiving Fulbright English teaching assistantships in The university ranked seventh among schools in the South for producing Fulbright research fellows. And U of L s Debate Program finished fifth in the National Debate Tournament. Most students study on the Belknap Campus. Located in the heart of Kentucky s largest city, the park-like campus is noted for its combination of historical and contemporary buildings. 44 The City of Louisville The Louisville area owes its existence to the Falls of the Ohio, the only place where the 981-mile river flows over bedrock. The falls were re-ally a rapids where the river dropped about 27 feet in three miles, usu- ally blocking passage by boat. Early explorers recognized the strategic im- portance of the Falls. George Rogers Clark established the first settlement there in 1778, to use as a base of his invasion of British territory in Southern Illinois and Indiana. Two years later that settlement became Louisville named for King Louis XVI of France, who was supporting the Ameri- Churchill Downs can Revolution. Louisville quickly become a vital transportation center for the young nation. Ports were established above and below the Falls. Passengers and freight moved overland around the rapids. Trails and road connected the ports to inland settlements in Kentucky and Indiana. The steamboat brought prosperity and growth to the area; by 1850, Louisville was the 10th largest city in the nation. In the decades that followed, railroads greatly improved connections with cities throughout the nation, and Louisville became known as the Gateway to the South. Businesses and industries were attracted by the strong and convenient transportation network and Louisville became an industrial center. In recent years, the economy of the Louisville area has shifted from a heavy reliance on industry to an increasing emphasis on services, including transportation. Once again, location is a key factor. Louisville is located near the center for the eastern half of the contiguous 48 states, with nearly half of the nation s consumer markets within a 500-mile radius. The climate is mild enough that Louisville s airport is rarely closed because of weather. Climate, location and a good transportation system helped convince United Parcel Service to establish its national hub in Louisville in the early 1980s. UPS, in turn, is attracting businesses that depend on fast and efficient transportation of their goods to other parts of the nation and throughout the world. The Kentucky Center for the Arts is one of the nation s premier performing arts facilities, housing three spacious theatres. Sports, including U of L athletics, are an important facet of life in the Louisville area. Churchill Downs has hosted three Breeders Cups and continues its traditional Run for the Roses each May. The 1996 and 2000 PGA Championships were held at Valhalla Golf Course in eastern Jefferson County, while the Ryder Cup will be held on the same course in The Louisville Bats, the triple-a baseball Louisville Slugger Field NCAA Top 10 Finish team of the Cincinnati Reds, play at the new downtown Louisville Slugger Field and have drawn over a million fans to games in a single season in years past. Over 140 public parks, 20 public golf courses and 226 public tennis courts also provide outdoor entertainment. Even though Louisville has changed over the years, it still has the flavor and gentleness of a Southern town. The Belle of Louisville steamboat still paddles its way up and down the Ohio River daily, mint juleps are still served under an old oak tree during the hot and muggy summers and fishing in the many lakes and rivers of the city and surrounding counties is still a favorite pastime. Louisville Quick Facts Metropolitan area size: 2,179 square miles (includes eight neighboring counties). Population: approximately one million, the nation s 16th-largest urban area in population. Median Age: 32.5 Weather: average annual rainfall is 44 inches; average summer/fall temperature is 84 degrees; winter/spring temp. is 64. Louisville ranks among the top 25 convention cities in the United States. More than 3.5 million visitors visit annually, including over 700,000 convention delgates. Louisville is home to legendary Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby, known as the greatest two minutes in sports. The Jefferson County Public School System is the nation s 25th largest public school system, with 96,000 students. Louisville s top local manufacturers: Ford Motor Company, General Electric Company, Publishers Printing Company, Brown-Forman Corp. The area's largest private employer is UPS, the worldwide shipping business which uses Louisville International Airport as a hub. Louisville's airport ranks fourth in the U.S. -- and sixth in the world -- in tons of air freight handled. Hillerich & Bradsby's Louisville Slugger baseball bats are a hit at ballparks. Another favorite in Louisville is trying to figure out the correct pronunciation of the city. So if you re a tourist, don t say Louie-ville or Lewisville. Natives claim it s Lou-a-vuhl. Either way, Louisville is still the same happy place.

President Dr. James Ramsey As University of Louisville President James Ramsey has commented on many occasions, The University of Louisville is an institution with a great history and tradition. Our job is to build on that history and tradition going forward. There is no question that during Dr. Ramsey s six year tenure the University of Louisville is a very changed institution. Under Dr. Ramsey s leadership the quality of UofL s freshman class has improved each year, with an average ACT score today for incoming freshmen of 24.3, well above the national average of 21.2, and the state average of What s more, students coming to the University of Louisville are having greater success than ever. Graduation rates over the last six years have improved over 33%. UofL students continue to receive a significant share of the nation s most prestigious academic honors, including seven UofL students receiving Fulbright scholarships in both 2008 and During the last six years, UofL s research programs have continued to grow for example, the University of Louisville, for the five-year period , experienced the most rapid growth of any institution in the country in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. Today the University of Louisville s dental school ranks 14 th nationally among all institutions in funding; new drugs are in various phases of clinical trials; new clinical procedures are improving health care for people of our community and state; UofL s Rapid Prototyping Lab in the Speed School of Engineering is coming up with new advanced manufacturing systems to make Kentucky manufacturers more competitive. A major focus of Dr. Ramsey during his tenure has been on the community of which the university is a part. The University of Louisville has been a major player in an award-winning Partnership for a Green City with Jefferson County Public Schools and Louisville Metro government. The university has launched the Signature Partnership Initiative, an effort to improve education, health care, social services and economic opportunity in a traditionally underserved are in west Louisville. The University of Louisville s partnership with UPS has been an important part of UPS continued commitment to the local and state economy. As a result of Metropolitan College and UofL s Logistics & Distribution Institute, UPS has continued to grow and is today the state s largest employer. Under Dr. Ramsey s leadership, a $2.5 billion plan has been approved for expanding and building the Health Sciences Campus with new research, clinical, and educational facilities in a Downtown Research Park. As part of this initiative, UofL received approval for a $350 million Tax Increment Financing (TIF) from the state of Kentucky and Metro government. The mandate given to Dr. Ramsey when he began at the University of Louisville in 2002 was to continue to move the university forward with the implementation of the strategic plan The Challenge for Excellence With the successful completion of the Challenge, the university has now stepped forward with a new strategic plan The 2020 Plan, a blueprint that will guide the university through the milestone date set in the Postsecondary Education Reform Act of At the same time, the university has begun the silent phase of its next major capital campaign and has undertaken a new branding effort It s Happening Here. A strong commitment to serving the community and commonwealth is nothing new for Ramsey. Before assuming UofL s top post, he served as senior policy advisor and state budget director for the Commonwealth of Kentucky and senior professor of economics and public policy at UofL. He also has held several other positions in state government, serving as interim commission of the Office of the New Economy and special advisor to the chairman of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. On the academic side, he has served as vice chancellor for finance and administration at both University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Western Kentucky University. He has been associate dean, assistant dean and director of public administration in the College of Business Administration at Loyola University and a research associate for the University of Kentucky s Center for Public Afairs. He has served on the faculties of UNC, WKU, UK, Loyola University and Middle Tennessee State University. A frequent national speaker and writer on economic issues in the public sector, Ramsey received the National Governors Association s Outstanding Public Service Award in 2001 and was named Kentucky s Distinguished Economist of the Year in Business First newspaper named Ramsey Louisville s Business Leader of the Year in December A Kentucky native, he holds a bachelor s degree in business administration from Western Kentucky University and master s and doctoral degrees in economics from UK. Sharing his commitment to public service is his wife, Jane Ramsey, who is involved in a host of community activities and organizations. She heads an effort to beautify UofL s Belknap Campus and revitalize its surrounding South Louisville neighborhood. That effort is highlighted by the upcoming renovation of Stansbury Park, which borders the Belknap Campus. That Olmsted-designed park is being restored to its former glory thanks to partnerships among the university, Louisville Metro and the Olmsted Conservancy. The Ramseys have two daughters. 46 Vice President for Athletics Tom Jurich Growth, innovation, achievement and excellence have been the trademarks of Tom Jurich s tenure as the Vice-President for Athletics at the University of Louisville for the last 11 years. Jurich s unyielding desire to succeed has driven him to the pinnacle of college athletics and has put the University of Louisville on the national scene. Since coming to the Derby City in 1997, Jurich has been the man behind the continued development of the university s entire athletic program. Jurich s desire and vision for the University of Louisville has led the division to unprecedented development and accomplishment. For his efforts, he was selected as the Street & Smith s Sports Business Journal/Sports Business Daily Athletic Director of the Year in 2007.From facilities to gender equity, from community involvement to national leadership, Jurich s actions prompted one state media outlet to recently write that It all shows yet again that the hiring of Tom Jurich, the architect of this Louisville emergence, as U of L AD in the fall of 1997 stands as one of the most significant events in our state s modern sports history. After just eight years working his constructive efforts, he was inducted into the state of Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame in U of L took a dramatic step toward maintaining that upward trend by signing Jurich to an unprecedented contract extension in December of 2006 that will keep him with the Cardinals through U of L President Dr. James Ramsey enhanced Jurich s contract again last year. In an unprecedented appointment, he was named Vice President for Athletics at U of L in Since Jurich was named Director of Athletics for the Cardinals on Oct. 21, 1997, there has been an unmatched flurry of activity on the U of L campus and Louisville area since his arrival. Jurich continues to push U of L to the forefront of college athletics. While diligently working to keep the Cardinals on the cutting edge nationally, Jurich has turned heads while quickly guiding major changes in the face of Cardinal Athletics including: Engineering U of L s historic move to the Big East Conference, which has a long-term relationship with the lucrative Bowl Championship Series. This is the Cards' fourth year in the league. Attracting seventh-year men's basketball coach Rick Pitino to U of L, a move many deemed impossible. Pitino's arrival has energized the Cards' tradition-rich program and quickly restored it to a position among the nation's top teams. U of L capped a 33-5 record in by returning to the Final Four for the first time in 19 years and advancing to the Elite Eight in Taking a major step in achieving gender equity, upgrading funding and support staff for existing women s programs while adding four new sports softball, golf, rowing and lacrosse (in 2008). Jurich's efforts also moved field hockey, women's soccer and baseball to fully-funded programs. He received the Citizens for Sports Equity 2000 Sports Leadership Award and was honored as the Louisvillian of the Year in 2005 by the Louisville Urban League Guild. Rapidly buidling the football program from the ground up. The Cardinals have been ranked in the top seven in two of the last three seasons, including the school s first BCS Bowl berth in Renovation has started on the expansion of Papa John s Cardinal Stadium, which will be completed for the 2010 campaign. Addressing multiple facility needs, including an extensive sports park to serve as a front lawn for the University. Owsley B. Frazier Cardinal Park features Ulmer Stadium (softball), Trager Stadium (field hockey artificial surface field),a soccer field surrounded by a state-of-the-art track, fitness trail, outdoor basketball and sand volleyball courts and a playground. Three new facilities opened in 2005: Jim Patterson Stadium(baseball), Ralph Wright Natatorium and the Trager Center indoor fieldhouse. The YUM Center Practice Facility was finished last year and is one of the finest facilities in the country that houses the men s basketball and women s volleyball and lacrosse programs. Strengthening U of L s athletic administration by enlarging the compliance department with the school s first associate athletic director for compliance and adding the school s first female associate athletic director/senior woman administrator. Placing U of L on the cutting edge of sports medicine with a comprehensive partnership with Louisville's world-renowned Jewish Hospital. Bolstering the community outreach arm of U of L athletics, developing CardsCare and CardsFIT to promote student-athlete community involvement. Academic success has risen dramatically during Jurich's watch as well. The 2007 Big East Football All-Academic team had 11 members this year. In the fall of 2007, a record 308 of 659, including spirit groups, mangers and trainers, recorded a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and a recorded 200 student-athletes were Red and Black Scholar- Athletes, who had GPA s of 3.25 or higher. Brian Brohm was an Academic All-American and was given the 2007 BIG EAST/Aéropostale Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was named the winner of the first BIG EAST Conference/ Aéropostale Leadership Award. Jurich s high energy, community and familyminded approach has been contagious, infecting the university, city and U of L fans everywhere with a positive outlook for the future of Cardinal Athletics. It is a formula that has provided a trail of success in each situation Jurich has touched. Jurich has been active in the scope of college athletics on a national level, within conference issues, and in his local community. He served three years as a member of the NCAA Management Council, one of the top legislative bodies of the NCAA, and the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. He sits on the Board of Directors for Republic Bank, Willpower Foundation and American Heart Association. Jurich recently received the Louisvillian of the Year Award by the Louisville Advertising Federation and the Dan Mangeot Memorial Award, for contributions to the advancement of tourism and hospitality. Guiding Colorado State University as its athletics director for the four years prior to his arrival at U of L, Jurich oversaw not only one of the most successful time periods in the school s history in terms of on-field competitiveness, but he was the driving force behind a successful capital campaign drive that included facility renovation. Prior to his constructive efforts at Colorado State, Jurich operated as director of athletics for eight years at his alma mater, Northern Arizona University. When appointed at NAU, he was the youngest director of athletics at the NCAA Division I level at the age of 29. He became athletic director at Northern Arizona in 1988, after previously serving as codirector ( ) and assistant director ('84-86). He was inducted to the NAU Sports Hall of Fame in Jurich is among the finest football players in Northern Arizona history. A punter, placekicker and backup quarterback for the Lumberjacks, Jurich earned first-team Kodak All-America honors in 1977 the first collegiate kicker to make the Kodak honor list and also received All-America acclaim from The Sporting News. He is the only kicker in Big Sky Conference history to be named the league s offensive player of the year (1977). A 10th-round NFL draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jurich later played with the Minnesota Vikings before a brief coaching stint at the University of Minnesota. He and his wife, Terrilynn, a former Miss Wyoming, have four children: sons Mark and Brian; and twin daughters, Haley and Lacey NCAA Top 10 Finish

What is the Master Cards Program? The Master Cards group has been an integral part in the success of the golf program at the University of Louisville. This group has a passion for U of L, for golf, and most importantly, the studentathletes. Our success on the golf course, in the classroom, and as a team is directly impacted by this group of boosters. The Master Cards group consists of people who have a heart for the University of Louisville and the game of golf. Members are treated to a day on the links with the Cardinal men s golf team held at the Cardinal Club and the annual John Dromo golf outing held each August. We have a unique opportunity in our sport to involve our boosters with the young men of our program on the field of play. Long after their playing days are finished here at U of L the people that have had an impact on them will remain. Our efforts to put our student athletes in the best possible position for success in the classroom, on the course and in life is directly impacted by these men who make up the Master Cards group. Head Coach Mark Crabtree How do the Master Cards Assist the U of L Program?
