SEASON OUTLOOK Derek Fathauer Daryl Fathauer Andrew Freeman Adam Rainaud The Outlook for 2007 Louisville has the pieces in place to make second straight NCAA Championship appearance University of Louisville ninth-year head coach Mark Crabtree has the Cardinal program in a unique and enviable position. For the second straight year, the Cardinals feature an experienced group of talented golfers that could lead the program to its second straight BIG EAST title and its second consecutive trip to the NCAA Golf Championships. Spearheaded by a roster of four seniors and one junior, the Cardinals are trying to build off last season s exceptional performance that saw the Cardinals cruise to their first BIG EAST title, a trip to the NCAA Championships and garner their first-ever All-American golfer in Derek Fathauer. With our top 6 players returning, we are excited about taking the next step, said Crabtree. We have a nice blend of experience, maturity and talent. We will need to remain hungry and very focused to enjoy the type of success that we had in previous years. Obviously, the team is centered around Derek and Daryl Fathauer, but both Adam Hadwin and Adam Rainaud played well at the end of the year and I anticipate seeing their continued progress into this year. Leading the troops is senior Derek Fathauer, who has already helped to re-write the U of L record book. Fathauer was the first Louisville player to be named an All-American last season after posting a stroke average. An All-BIG EAST selection, Derek won a pair of tournaments (Rich Harvest Farms and Wolf Run) and had three other top five finishes. He finished 14th at the NCAA Central Regional and tied for third at the BIG EAST Championships. His twin brother, Daryl Fathauer is also looking to close out his career in impressive fashion. A medalist at the BIG EAST Championship, Fathauer seemed to be playing his best golf last spring, where he had five top ten finishes. The Jensen Beach, Fla., product posted a stroke average. He placed fifth at the UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate and third at the Mission Inn Collegiate Invitational. He shot 209 at the BIG EAST Invitational to win the event. The twin brother s also received a sponsor s exemption to compete on the PGA Tour in October of Both Daryl and Derek have been tremendous players for the University of Louisville, said Crabtree. Their efforts have contributed significantly to the program making it to the national championship and becoming a nationally recognized program. Both have captured Big East Championships Derek in 2006 and Daryl in In addition, they have been a part of 14 team victories over the past 3 years. Senior Adam Rainaud is another talented upperclassmen who turned up his game during the spring campaign. After sitting out the fall season, Rainaud stepped in and gave the Cardinals a huge boost. He posted a career-best third-place finish at the BIG EAST Championship. He opened with a first-round score of 67 and finished with a score of 4-under par. Senior Andrew Free- man played in 10 events and could be a stabalizing fixture in the line-up if he can be come more consistent. He s a talented performer and could be the missing piece of the puzzle for Crabtree. Junior Adam Hadwin was a pleasant surprise last season and could be a huge factor in the Cardinals chances in Hadwin was second on the team with a stellar season stroke average and six top 10 finishes, including three third-place finishes. Hadwin played his best golf 2

SEASON OUTLOOK Karsten Clements Adam Hadwin Lewis Kirton Johnny Delprete when the weather started to warm up. He finished third at the Mission Inn Collegiate Invitational and tied for fifth at the BIG EAST Championships. He closed the year out with an eighth-place finish in the regional and was tied for 23rd at the NCAA Championships. Sophomore Lewis Kirton had an impressive collegiate debut. He fired = 229 to tie for 15th-place at the Rich Harvest Farms Invitational, bursting on the college golf scene. Kirton also tied for third at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate by shooting = 217. He also tied for fourth at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate by firing 71-77=148 in a weather-shortened event. The Cardinals brought in a talented freshman in Johnny Delprete. A three -time team MVP and three-time 1st team All-Area Player, Delprete had four American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) top 10 finishes with his best finish coming at the 2006 AJGA Lessing s Inc. Junior by placing fifth place after carding =206. He qualified for the 2006 USGA Junior Amateur and was a former Optimist International Junior Champion. He also won the Florida State Boys Junior Championship. Last March, the Cardinals ended the regular season with an 11thplace finish at the Linger Longer Invitational. But as the postseason neared, the Cardinals warmed up. Louisville, in fact, enjoyed the best postseason run in school history. The Cardinals finished third out of 27 teams at the NCAA Division I Central Regional. Louisville led after the first round and was second after day two. Hadwin paced the Cardinals with an eighth-place finish and Daryl Fathauer tied for ninth. The Cardinals closed the season with a 27th-place finish in their first NCAA Championship appearance. Louisville hopes with the talent and the depth returning, that the Cardinals can make a better impression at the 2008 Championships. With the toughest schedule in school history, we will attempt to play with the very finest collegiate teams in the country, said Crabtree. This will be a big challenge for us this team will need this to prepare to defend its BIG EAST title and possible run at the NCAA Tournament next spring LOUISVILLE MEN S GOLF ROSTER NAME YR. 4 HEAD COACH MARK CRABTREE NINTH SEASON When University of Louisville Athletics Director Tom Jurich hired Mark Crabtree he knew he had someone who would eventually take the Cardinals men s golf program to the next level. Under Crabtree s direction, the men s golf program is certainly one that s on the rise and climbing steadily every day. Heading into his ninth season at Louisville, Crabtree has the Cardinals on the national scene and the Hall of Fame coach isn t satisfied with three straight regional appearances and the school s first visit to the NCAA Championships a year ago. In just over eight seasons at U of L, Crabtree s Cards have posted the top five team, top seven individual, top six career stroke averages in school history and placed numerous players in the U.S. Amateur tournament. Last season, the Cardinals won a school record seven tournaments, which included their BIG EAST Championship and advanced to the NCAA Championships, where they finished 27th overall. It s that finish that has made Crabtree even hungrier. I m not satisfied about just getting to the NCAA Championship, said Crabtree. Our goal is to get back to the NCAA s and compete for a national championship. Hosting the BIG EAST Championship for the first time, the Cardinals dominated play, as the Cardinals had four players finish in the top five. In its first season in the BIG EAST in , the Cardinals tied for the league title, but fell in a tight playoff to Notre Dame. It was Crabtree s highest finish in a league championship since taking over at the University of Louisville. Despite the loss, the Cardinals advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the second straight season. Louisville finished 22nd in the NCAA West Regional in Tucson, Ariz. The season was one of the best in school history, as the Cardinals won a pair of tournaments and finished in the top three in seven other tournaments. Under Crabtree s direction in , the Cardinals finished 15th in the NCAA Regional, just missing advancing to the NCAA Championships. Louisville also recorded 13 top 10 finishes, 12 top 20 finishes and won a school record four tournaments that season. While Athletic Director Tom Jurich had complete confidence in Crabtree s ability to build a strong program on his own, he went a step further, as he has done with virtually every sport across the board, and MARK CRABTREE AT A GLANCE 4 COACHING TIMELINE Named head coach of the Cardinals in Head coach at Colorado State from TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS UNDER CRABTREE Guided Louisville to the NCAA Regionals in and to their first NCAA Championship. Led Louisville to their first BIG EAST title in 2007 and a tie at the 2006 BIG EAST Championships, only to fall in a playoff to Notre Dame. Coached Louisville to a 17th national ranking. INDIVIDUALS ACCOMPLISHMENTS UNDER CRABTREE Coached Derek Fathauer to receive All-American and All-Region honors. Derek and Daryl Fathauer earned first team All-BIG EAST accolades in 2006 and Oversaw Derek Fathauer as he won medalist honors at the BIG EAST ensured that his new coach would have facilities that could rival any program across the country. The Cardinal Club, the luxurious stateof-the-art home course of the Cardinals, opened in the fall of 2001 and with it began a new chapter for both men s and women s golf programs. The Tom Musselman Golf Center opened in 2007 and has all the amenties for the men s and women s golf programs. Success follows winners and it certainly followed Crabtree to U of L as his Cardinals have gained momentum with each passing season. Under Crabtree s direction, the Cardinals have raised the bar each campaign, rewriting the U of L record book at a frenzied pace. In 2003, Crabtree saw the Cardinals produce their first ever NCAA individual participant, as Brett Jones made the field. During the campaign, Crabtree s young but talented squad notched a collective stroke average, nearly six strokes better than the school record of posted by the squad in Crabtree s first season in Louisville. With one of the nation s top freshman classes and senior Grant Stur- Championships in 2006 and Daryl Fathauer in Daryl Fathauer (2005) and Brett Jones (2002) were named Conference USA Freshman of the Year. Guided Brett Jones to the NCAA Championships in 2003 the school s first-ever individual participant. Coached Grant Sturgeon to a career in the professional ranks. ACCOMPLISHMENTS UNDER CRABTREE Conference USA Commissioner s Award (3.51 GPA). Will Hanna Conference USA Student-Athlete of the Year (2005). ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON CRABTREE Selected to the Colorado Hall of Fame in Played collegiately at Colorado. Was a four time state champion and won six Colorado Golf Association Amatuer titles.

HEAD COACH MARK CRABTREE NINTH SEASON geon in the lineup, the Cards swung their way to one of the top seasons ever at U of L. Sturgeon broke the individual season stroke record established the previous year by Chris Campbell, who twice earned All-Conference USA accolades under Crabtree, while also setting a new standard for career stroke average. Following his playing days at U of L, Sturgeon took his game to the pro ranks and promptly claimed victories in each of his first two pro events, including the 2002 Kentucky Open. Sturgeon spent the 03 season playing on the Hooters Tour. Prior to his arrival in the Derby City, Crabtree spent nine seasons as the head coach at Colorado State University. There, he saw the Ram program go from a non-scholarship program into a top 25 team and NCAA Championship entry. CSU qualified for four consecutive NCAA West Regionals under his guidance and qualified for its first NCAA Championship appearance in The Rams finished tied for 24th at the 99 championships held in Chaska, Minn. Traditionally known as a cold-weather school, Colorado State entered the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Top 25 for the first time in 1998, finishing at No. 23. The Rams also sent their first individual, Nigel Spence, to the NCAA Finals. As a result, Crabtree earned NCAA District VII Coach of the Year honors in 98. TED SCHULZ ASSISTANT COACH/ SEVENTH SEASON Along the way, Crabtree put together one of the nation s most competitive schedules, taking his program to elite tournaments in Honolulu, San Diego, Phoenix and San Francisco. Ram golfers responded to the challenge, posting 11 top 10 team finishes in 15 competitions in , including a second consecutive team title at the prestigious Stanford Invitational. The Rams knocked off then-no. 1 Georgia Tech on their way to the 97 title, marking the first time in school history a team had defeated the nation s top-ranked team in any sport. CSU s road to the top 25 and the NCAA Championships was not an easy one. His first class of Rams were homegrown and talented, leading CSU to four team championships, 27 top-five showings and two-runnerup finishes at the WAC Championship. Crabtree, who played collegiately at the University of Colorado, was a four-time state champion and captured six Colorado Golf Association amateur titles. He also has been a qualifier for both the United States Golf Association Public Links and National Amateur Championships. He was selected to the Colroado Golf Hall of Fame in Crabtree is married to the former Janie Huffman. They are the parents of Joshua (8) and Lauren (6). JOSHUA HELLMANN ASSISTANT COACH/ FIRST SEASON An 18-year veteran of the PGA, Nike and Asian Tours and a member of the University of Louisville Athletic Hall of Fame, Ted Schulz enters his sixth season working with the University of Louisville golf teams and at the Cardinal Club. A Louisville native, Schulz joined the PGA Tour in 1984, three years after putting the finishing touches on a stellar four-year career at U of L. Over the next 18 years, Schulz played in 263 tournaments, including four Masters, three U.S. Opens, four PGA Championships and two Tour Championships. On the PGA Tour, Schulz claimed two tournament wins ( 91 Nissan Los Angeles Open, and 89 Southern Open ) and finished as high as sixth place in the 1992 Masters. He finished the 1989 season ranked 30th on the money list and his victory in the Los Angeles Open vaulted him to a careerbest 29th-place on the list in With 15 career top 10 finishes under his belt, Schulz ranks 176th on the all-time money list with earnings in excess of $1.6 million. 15 THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE In , the BIG EAST will be in its second year as the nation s largest Division I- A conference. The first year with 16 members was wrought with curiosity among those in the world of collegiate athletics and in the media, but the league thrived in its new alignment, enjoying significant success in the athletic arenas, on the playing fields and in the classroom. The goals of the BIG EAST have remained constant throughout its history - to compete at the highest level and to do so with integrity and sportsmanship. In men s basketball last year, BIG EAST squads secured a league-record eight NCAA bids. Seven BIG EAST women s basketball teams earned NCAA berths. In football, West Virginia garnered the attention of the college football world with its victory over Georgia in the Nokia Sugar Bowl. The Mountaineers were the BIG EAST s representative in the Bowl Championship Series. In , the BIG EAST welcomed five new members to increase its membership to 16: University of Cincinnati, DePaul University, University of Louisville, Marquette University and the University of South Florida. Some were ready to call the new BIG EAST alignment too unwieldy, but the league showed that there can be strength in numbers even when that number is a large one. BIG EAST institutions reside in nine of the nation s top 34 largest media markets, including New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Tampa, Pittsburgh, Hartford, Milwaukee and Cincinnati. With its newest members, BIG EAST markets will contain almost one fourth of all television households in the U.S. Since opening its doors in 1979, the league has won 25 national championships in six different sports and 124 student-athletes have won individual national titles. In , Providence College s Mary Cullen won the NCAA 5,000-meters crown. Also, the Villanova women s cross country team was named the NCAA s Silver Anniversary Cross Country Program. The Wildcats have won seven NCAA team titles since Former Wildcat standout Carole Zajac was named the top individual performer of the women s cross country era. The BIG EAST has always been able to boast that some of its best students are also some of its best athletes. More than 350 student-athletes have earned Academic All- America honors. Last year, West Virginia s Joe Herber was named the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American of the Year in men s basketball. The BIG EAST has continued its basketball success in the 21st century. In , Connecticut became the first school in NCAA history to win the men s and women s NCAA titles in the same season. With the Syracuse men and the UConn women grabbing NCAA crowns the previous year, the BIG EAST became the first conference in NCAA history to win the men s and women s titles in consecutive seasons. In fact, the BIG EAST has won five of the last seven women s basketball crowns and three of the last eight men s titles. Moving proactively has been a consistent strategy for the conference that was formed in The BIG EAST has continually turned challenges into opportunities to become stronger. In the spring of 2001, the BIG EAST added women s lacrosse and rowing to its growing list of sports. The inaugural women s golf championship was held in the spring of The BIG EAST became a reality on May 31, 1979, following a meeting of athletic directors from Providence College, St. John s, Georgetown and Syracuse Universities. Seton Hall, Connecticut and Boston College completed the original seven school alliance. While the membership has both increased and changed, the focus of the BIG EAST has not wavered. The conference reflects a tradition of broad based programs, led by administrators and coaches who place a constant emphasis on academic integrity. The BIG EAST Conference has enjoyed a leadership role nationally. Its student athletes own significantly high graduation rates and their record of scholastic achievement notably show a balance between intercollegiate athletics and academics. Any successful organization needs outstanding leadership. Michael Tranghese, the league s first full-time employee, and for 11 years the associate to Dave Gavitt, moved into the Commissioner s chair in In his first year, he administered the formation of The BIG EAST Football Conference. The league has long been considered a leader in innovative concepts in promotion and publicity, particularly regarding television. Those efforts have resulted in unparalleled visibility for BIG EAST student athletes. The conference has enjoyed longstanding relationships with CBS, ESPN, Inc. and ABC. While BIG EAST basketball games are regular sellouts at campus and major public arenas, including the annual men s BIG EAST Championship in Madison Square Garden, attendance figures also are significant at BIG EAST soccer, women s basketball and baseball games. More than 550 BIG EAST athletes have earned All America recognition and dozens have won individual NCAA national championships. The BIG EAST has been well represented in U.S. or foreign national and Olympic teams. Several athletes earned gold medals in each of the last five summer Olympiads. The BIG EAST has its headquarters in Providence where the conference administers to more than 5,500 athletes in 23 sports. 15

UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION Dr. James Ramsey University President An Moving forward with change while respecting and building on the University of Louisville s great history and tradition. This describes U of L President James R. Ramsey. As U of L s 17th president, Ramsey has worked aggressively to move the university closer to its goal of becoming a pre-eminent metropolitan institution of higher learning. The university has made great strides in five strategic areas: Educational quality Extramural research Campus diversity Community partnerships Accountability The quality of U of L s freshman class has improved each year, with the average ACT score of incoming freshmen climbing to 24.2 in 2006 from 20.7 in What s more, the university s students are claiming a much larger share of the nation s most prestigious academic honors. Two U of L students recently were named Goldwater Scholars, receiving the most coveted undergraduate award in math, natural sciences and engineering. Another student earned a Fulbright teaching assistantship to work and study in Malaysia, while nine others received awards to study in places such as Korea, Tanzania and Turkey. Many of these students will return to Kentucky to live and work. Ramsey also has created a university culture focused on conducting research that improves the quality of life for people in Kentucky and beyond. This research already has led to major milestones in health care, business and the environment. Today, U of L s volume of federal research funding is four times higher than it was seven years ago, and the university has become America s fastest growing research university in National Institutes of Health funding. Ramsey also has set the tone for encouraging diversity on campus. U of L has reached or made substantial progress on all eight of its goals set in The Kentucky Plan for Equal Opportunities. The university s ties with its community have never been stronger. Not only has U of L been a major player in the award-winning Partnership for a Green City with Jefferson County Public Schools and Louisville Metro government, it has launched a Signature Partnership Initiative to improve education, health care, social services and economic opportunity in Louisville s West End. As U of L has continued to advance toward meeting its state-mandated goals, it has been significantly underfunded by the state relative to its peer institutions a true indicator of its accountability and stewardship. A strong commitment to serving the community and commonwealth is nothing new for Ramsey. Before assuming U of L s top post, he served as senior policy advisor and state budget director for the Commonwealth of Kentucky and senior professor of economics and public policy at U of L. He also has held several other positions in state government, serving as interim commissioner of the Office of the New Economy and special advisor to the chairman of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. On the academic side, he has served as vice chancellor for finance and administration at both University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Western Kentucky University. He has been associate dean, assistant dean and director of public administration in the College of Business Administration at Loyola University and a research associate for the University of Kentucky s Center for Public Affairs. He has taught on the faculties of UNC, WKU, UK, Loyola University and Middle Tennessee State University. A frequent national speaker and writer on economic issues in the public sector, Ramsey received the National Governors Association s Outstanding Public Service Award in 2001 and was named Kentucky s Distinguished Economist of the Year in A Kentucky native, he holds a bachelor s degree in business administration from Western Kentucky University and master s and doctoral degrees in economics from UK. Sharing his love for public service is his wife, Jane Ramsey, who is involved in a host of community activities and organizations. She heads an effort to beautify U of L s Belknap Campus and revitalize its surrounding South Louisville neighborhood, and she recently returned from a trip to the Gulf Coast, where she joined a group helping rebuild neighborhoods ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. The Ramseys two daughters attend U of L. Jenny, an Auburn University graduate, is studying nursing. Jacque is a sophomore. 40

THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE Dare to be great. When the University of Louisville adopted that simple motto in the winter of 2000, it challenged itself and its community to strive for excellence. It also sent a message to the nation that Kentucky s metropolitan research university is on the verge of greatness. One of the nation s oldest metropolitan universities, U of L has a longstanding reputation in areas such as business, law, engineering and medicine. The university is building on that reputation, establishing itself as a national leader in areas ranging from the humanities to entrepreneurship, from logistics and distribution to music composition, from social work to nursing and dentistry. In 1998, U of L announced its Challenge for Excellence, a program designed to raise the university to national prominence within 10 years. Efficiency on campus has been improved in recent years and university funds have been refocused on highpriority programs. The effort already has paid off through national attention on the university and through benefits to the citizens of Louisville, Kentucky, Indiana and other areas around the nation and the world. In fall 2000, the university was one of 147 universities to achieve the Doctoral/Research University-Extensive designation from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. U of L s transplantation research program received international acclaim in 1999 after performing only the second successful hand transplant in the world. A new Cardiovascular Innovation Institute, a partnership with Louisville s Jewish Hospital, will focus on the development, testing and clinical delivery of leading-edge treatments for heart failure. The Institute for Cellular Therapeutics, which relocated to U of L from Philadelphia in 1998 as part of the Challenge for Excellence, is working on leading-edge immunosuppression research that soon may lead to better, less risky transplantation procedures and treatments for diseases ranging from cancer to sickle cell anemia. U of L s entrepreneurship program, ranked among the nation s top 10 by Success magazine, has helped its students launch several successful ventures and is grooming tomorrow s business leaders. Its logistics and distribution program works with the United Parcel Service hub and other Louisville-area businesses to improve delivery systems throughout the world. Its School of Education works closely with Louisville-area schools and others throughout the state to continue refining Kentucky s nationally acclaimed efforts to reform education in grades K through 12. Through the presentation of its $200,000 Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition, U of L s music school has built one of the world s best collections of contemporary music. And U of L s Brandeis School of Law, which was one of the first in the nation to require pro bono work as part of its curriculum, boasts a student body that has won several national competitions in recent years. U of L has begun to gain recognition on the national level in a variety of ways. A Wall Street Journal article cited U of L as being among the top 30 schools in the nation for sending students to elite graduate schools. And Consumers Digest rated the university 25th in the Top 50 Best Values for Public Colleges and Universities based on academic excellence, educational quality and costs of attendance for the academic year. U of L s students also have gained national recognition in U of L ranked seventh in the nation in the number of students receiving Fulbright English teaching assistantships in The university ranked seventh among schools in the South for producing Fulbright research fellows. And U of L s Debate Program finished fifth in the National Debate Tournament. Most students study on the Belknap Campus. Located in the heart of Kentucky s largest city, the park-like campus is noted for its combination of historical and contemporary buildings. Three motion picture companies filmed on campus this year alone. 41

ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATION Tom Jurich Vice President for Athletics Growth, innovation, achievement and excellence have been the trademarks of Tom Jurich s tenure as the Vice-President for Athletics at the University of Louisville for the last 10 years. Jurich s unyielding desire to succeed has driven him to the pinnacle of college athletics and has put the University of Louisville on the national scene. Since coming to the Derby City in 1997, Jurich has been the man behind the continued development of the university s entire athletic program. Jurich s desire and vision for the University of Louisville has led the division to unprecedented development and accomplishment. For his efforts, he was selected as the Street & Smith s Sports Business Journal/ Sports Business Daily Athletic Director of the Year in From facilities to gender equity, from community involvement to national leadership, Jurich s actions prompted one state media outlet to recently write that It all shows yet again that the hiring of Tom Jurich, the architect of this Louisville emergence, as U of L AD in the fall of 1997 stands as one of the most significant events in our state s modern sports history. After just eight years working his constructive efforts, he was inducted into the state of Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame in U of L took a dramatic step toward maintaining that upward trend by signing Jurich to an unprecedented contract extension in December of 2006 that will keep him with the Cardinals through U of L President Dr. James Ramsey enhanced Jurich s contract again last year. In an unprecedented appointment, he was named Vice President for Athletics at U of L in Since Jurich was named Director of Athletics for the Cardinals on Oct. 21, 1997, there has been an unmatched flurry of activity on the U of L campus and Louisville area since his arrival. Jurich continues to push U of L to the forefront of college athletics. While diligently working to keep the Cardinals on the cutting edge nationally, Jurich has turned heads while quickly guiding major changes in the face of Cardinal Athletics including: Engineering U of L s historic move to the Big East Conference, which has a long-term relationship with the lucrative Bowl Championship Series. This is the Cards' second year in the league. Attracting sixth-year men's basketball coach Rick Pitino to U of L, a move many deemed impossible. Pitino's arrival has energized the Cards' tradition-rich program and quickly restored it to a position among the nation's top teams. U of L capped a 33-5 record in by returning to the Final Four for the first time in 19 years. Taking a major step in achieving gender equity, upgrading funding and support staff for existing women s programs while adding four new sports softball, golf, rowing and lacrosse (in 2008). Jurich's efforts also moved field hockey, women's soccer and baseball to fully-funded programs. He received the Citizens for Sports Equity 2000 Sports Leadership Award and was honored as the Louisvillian of the Year in 2005 by the Louisville Urban League Guild. Rapidly buidling the football program from the ground up. The Cardinals have been ranked in the top seven in two of the last three seasons, including the school s first BCS Bowl berth in Addressing multiple facility needs, including an extensive sports park to serve as a front lawn for the University. Owsley B. Frazier Cardinal Park features Ulmer Stadium (softball), Trager Stadium (field hockey artificial surface field),a soccer field surrounded by a state-of-the-art track, fitness trail, outdoor basketball and sand volleyball courts and a playground. Three new facilities opened in 2005: Jim Patterson Stadium(baseball), Ralph Wright Natatorium and the Trager Center indoor fieldhouse. The YUM Center Practice Facility will be finished this year and will house the men s basketball and women s volleyball and lacrosse programs. Strengthening U of L s athletic administration by enlarging the compliance department with the school s first associate athletic director for compliance and adding the school s first female associate athletic director/senior woman administrator. Placing U of L on the cutting edge of sports medicine with a comprehensive partnership with Louisville's world-renowned Jewish Hospital. Bolstering the community outreach arm of U of L athletics, developing CardsCare and CardsFIT to promote student-athlete community involvement. Academic success has risen dramatically during Jurich's watch as well. There 130 BIG EAST Academic All-Stars named for the season plus 11 named to the 2005 Big East Football All-Academic team. The 2006 Big East Football All-Academic team had 12 members this year. There were numbers for the 2006 Fall semester were 296 of 643, including spirit groups, mangers and trainers. For the 2007 Spring semester, we were 290 of 595, including spirit groups, managers and trainers (231 of 458 without those three groups). Jurich s high energy, community and family-minded approach has been contagious, infecting the university, city and U of L fans everywhere with a positive outlook for the future of Cardinal Athletics. It is a formula that has provided a trail of success in each situation Jurich has touched. Jurich has been active in the scope of college athletics on a national level, within conference issues, and in his local community. He served three years as a member of the NCAA Management Council, one of the top legislative bodies of the NCAA, and the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. He sits on the Board of Directors for Republic Bank, Willpower Foundation and American Heart Association. Jurich recently received the Louisvillian of the Year Award by the Louisville Advertising Federation and the Dan Mangeot Memorial Award, for contributions to the advancement of tourism and hospitality. Guiding Colorado State University as its athletics director for the four years prior to his arrival at U of L, Jurich oversaw not only one of the most successful time periods in the school s history in terms of on-field competitiveness, but he was the driving force behind a successful capital campaign drive that included facility renovation. Prior to his constructive efforts at Colorado State, Jurich operated as director of athletics for eight years at his alma mater, Northern Arizona University. When appointed at NAU, he was the youngest director of athletics at the NCAA Division I level at the age of 29. He became athletic director at Northern Arizona in 1988, after previously serving as co-director ( ) and assistant director ('84-86). He was inducted to the NAU Sports Hall of Fame in Jurich is among the finest football players in Northern Arizona history. A punter, placekicker and backup quarterback for the Lumberjacks, Jurich earned first-team Kodak All-America honors in 1977 the first collegiate kicker to make the Kodak honor list and also received All-America acclaim from The Sporting News. He is the only kicker in Big Sky Conference history to be named the league s offensive player of the year (1977). A 10th-round NFL draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jurich later played with the Minnesota Vikings before a brief coaching stint at the University of Minnesota. He and his wife, Terrilynn, a former Miss Wyoming, have four children: sons Mark, an outfielder in the Atlanta Braves organization, and Brian; and twin daughters, Haley and Lacey. 42

MASTERCARDS What is the Master Cards Program? The Master Cards group has been an integral part in the success of the golf program at the University of Louisville. This group has a passion for U of L, for golf, and most importantly, the student-athletes. Our success on the golf course, in the classroom, and as a team is directly impacted by this group of boosters. The Master Cards group consists of people who have a heart for the University of Louisville and the game of golf. Members are treated to a day on the links with the Cardinal men s golf team held at the Cardinal Club and the annual John Dromo golf outing held each August. We have a unique opportunity in our sport to involve our boosters with the young men of our program on the field of play. Long after their playing days are finished here at U of L the people that have had an impact on them will remain. Our efforts to put our student athletes in the best possible position for success in the classroom, on the course and in life is directly impacted by these men who make up the Master Cards group. Head Coach Mark Crabtree How do the Master Cards Assist the U of L Program?
