4 2012 NSW WOMEN S MEDAL COMPETITION Conditions (as at 1 January 2012) These are to be read in conjunction with the Golf NSW Standard Conditions for Events Run By Golf NSW, the Golf NSW Code of Conduct and the Golf NSW Hard Card. Should a conflict occur between conditions, then the conditions outlined on the entry form take precedence. 1. The Golf NSW Women s Medal Competition is a competition consisting of 6 Stroke rounds, played in 3 Divisions. The winner of the Women s Medal in each Division is the player returning the lowest nett aggregate of 3 scores at the end of the 6 rounds. It is not a requirement that players compete in all 6 rounds of the Competition. A Golf NSW Women s Medal round is NOT a Club Monthly Women s Medal. 2. Winners of the Golf NSW Women s Medal in each Division at Club level are entitled to compete in the Golf NSW Gold, Silver and Bronze Women s Medal play-offs (see below, Condition 14). Both the Mid-Week winners and Weekend winners are eligible to compete in the play-offs. Only the winners (or joint winners) in each Division are entitled to compete in these play-offs; it is not permissible to substitute a runner-up in the event of the winner being unavailable. 3. All Clubs affiliated with Golf NSW are entitled to enter the Golf NSW Women s Medal Competition. All amateur women members of affiliated Golf Clubs who hold a current Australian Handicap are entitled to compete for a Golf NSW Women s Medal. Holders of club-only Handicaps are not eligible. A player must remain a financial member of the Club for the duration of the Competition. 4. The Golf NSW Women s Medal Competition consists of six (6) stroke rounds of 18 holes, and must be played between February and September. A Club may play more than one round of the Golf NSW Women s Medal Competition per month. If, because of exceptional circumstances, a Club is unable to complete the six stroke rounds prior to 1 October, the Club may apply to Golf NSW for dispensation to reduce the number of rounds. It is recommended that players compete together in their respective Women s Medal Divisions, if field size permits. The Women s Committee of the Club may determine the starting times and groups for the Golf NSW Women s Medal Competition at Club level. 5. Clubs may programme their own Club Monthly Women s Medal in conjunction with any or all of the 6 rounds of the Golf NSW Women s Medal Competition. A club may choose to programme more than 6 Club Monthly Women s Medals. Programming, Conditions and Handicap Divisions of the Club Monthly Women s Medal are the responsibility of the Women s Committee at each club. 6. Clubs may program one Mid Week and one Weekend Competition in the Golf NSW Women s Medal Competition. Players permitted to play on either day must nominate in which Women s Medal Competition they will compete, subject to Conditions prevailing in the Club. If a Category of Membership, e.g. Provisional prohibits a player from playing on the main Course, or in the main Competition field, or if exceptional circumstances prevail, Clubs must seek permission from the Golf NSW Women s Match Committee to program a separate Women s Medal Competition for such players. Such permission must be confirmed annually, before the first Women s Medal round is played. No player may compete in more than one Women s Medal Competition in the same Club but, if she belongs to two or more Clubs, she may compete at each Club. 7. For each Division of the Golf NSW Women s Medal Competition there must be 4 or more players entered before the commencement of the 4 th round. If this minimum is not met, players compete for a Combined Women s Medal. (See examples in 9 below ). 8. The following situation may necessitate the reprogramming of a Golf NSW Medal Round: a) The minimum number of players does not satisfy the Clubs regular required number of players to run a competition. b) The course is declared unplayable either before or during the Medal Round and the competition is declared null and void. 9. Divisions for the 2012 Golf NSW Women s Medal Competition are determined by the player s handicap on the first medal round they play and are: Division 1 Women s Medal - Plus to 22 Division 2 Women s Medal - 23 to 32
5 Division 3 Women s Medal - 33 to 45 Combined Women s Medal Where fewer than 4 players have entered the Golf NSW Women s Medal Competition in any Division at the commencement of the 4 th round, such players must be combined with another Division. As far as possible, Divisions with similar handicaps are combined. In a Combined Women s Medal, a player s handicap at the time of her first Golf NSW Women s Medal round will determine the Division for the Women s Medal she will win and in which Women s Medal Final Play-Off she is entitled to compete. In the following examples (a) = H'caps: + to 22; (b) = H'caps: 23 32; (c) = H'caps: (a) 4 players (a) 2 players (a) 8 players (b) 20 players (b) 6 players (b) 18 players (c) 14 players (c) 8 players. (c) 3 players (a) plays for a Div. 1 Women s Medal (a) and (b) combine (a) plays for a Div 1 Women s Medal (b) plays for a Div. 2 Women s Medal (c) plays for a Div. 3 Women s Medal. (b) and (c) combine (c) plays for a Div. 3 Women s Medal (a) No players (a) 3 players (a) 3 players (b) 2 players (b) 3 players (b) 6 players (c) 10 players (c) 3 players (c) 3players (b) and (c) combine (a), (b) and (c) combine (b) plays for a Div 2 Women s Medal (a) and (c) combine 10. Increases/Reductions in Handicap: Once a player has played her first round in her relevant division, she shall remain in that division for the duration of the Golf NSW Women s Medal competition (6 rounds), but play each round using her current handicap. All scores returned, irrespective of handicap changes, shall count for the Golf NSW Women s Medal Division in which the player commenced. 11. Ties: At the completion of the 6 Golf NSW Women s Medal Rounds, if the lowest nett aggregate of 3 rounds in any Division produces a tie, joint winners will be declared and both players will be entitled to enter the relevant Golf NSW Women s Medal Play-off. Note that a Club s Monthly Women s Medal (which in many cases may also be one of the Golf NSW Women s Medal Rounds) is a club competition, played under Conditions set down by the Club s Women s Committee. Therefore, ties in a CLUB S Monthly Women s Medal may be determined by a Play-off, or by the method of Countback (matching cards) recommended by Golf Australia, or otherwise as determined by the Committee. 12. Motorised Transport & Mobile Phones: Club Level: This is a Domestic matter. Gold, Silver and Bronze Women s Medal Final Play Offs - Metropolitan and Country: Prohibited Penalties as set out in the NSW Standard Conditions of Play and on the Golf NSW Website. Exemptions: Refer Golf NSW policy with regard to Motorised Transport & Mobile Phones (see website: ) 13. Return of Results and Entry Fees The Entry Fee for the Golf NSW Women s Medal Competition and Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal Play offs for 2012 is $5 per player (GST inclusive). There will be no additional charge for the play off round. Clubs must return the Entry Fees, together with the results entry sheet of the completed 6 rounds of the Competition, prior to 8 October. Hard Copy Medal Result Sheets for the return of results are available on the website at : For an Electronic Spreadsheet please the Events Coordinator for a copy: nicole.bessant@golfnsw.org Both Metropolitan and Country Clubs must return results and fees directly to Golf NSW. 14. (i) Golf NSW awards Metropolitan and Country Gold, Silver and Bronze Women s Medals, to be competed for by the winners of the Div. 1, Div. 2, and Div. 3 Women s Medals at Club level. Winners of Division 1 Women s Medals compete for the Gold Women s Medal, winners of Division 2 Women s Medals compete for the Silver Women s Medal and the winners of Division 3 Women s Medals compete for the Bronze Women s Medal. Any member of a Country or Off Shore Golf Club may compete for the Country Women s Medal, and any woman member of a Metropolitan Golf Club may compete for the Metropolitan Women s Medal. (ii) If Women s Medal Divisions have been combined, the player s handicap at the time of her first Golf NSW Women s Medal round determines whether she wins a Division 1, 2 or 3 Women s Medal. Her Handicap at that time also determines in which Division she is entitled to play in the Golf NSW Women s Medal Play-offs. In all Golf NSW Women s Medal Play-Offs, players shall compete on their current handicaps.
6 (iii) Entries for the Play-Offs must be made on the official Entry Form for Golf NSW Women s Medal Play-Offs and returned by the date for close of entries. There is no additional entry fee for the Play off rounds. Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the Match Committee. (iv) Ties: Players who tie in Metropolitan and Country Gold, Silver and Bronze Women s Medal Play-Offs shall be declared Joint Winners. 15. Adjustment of Scores for Short, Temporary or Composite Course The Golf NSW Women s Medal competition played over 6 rounds may be affected by some or all players competing in some of the rounds on either a short course, a long course, a course with temporary holes or a composite course. At some clubs, players in the club s Monthly Women s Medal must play on a short course if their handicaps are over a set limit. Variations in her handicap may mean that a player competes on the long course for some rounds and on the short course for others. When a course other than the normal course is used for one or more Golf NSW Women s Medal rounds, that course must have an official AWCR or TAWCR, confirmed with Golf NSW. As many courses will have their normal course changed during 2012 the normal course AWCR will be that as at the first Medal Round. In fairness to all, for the Golf NSW Women s Medal, the Club Committee needs to adjust players nett scores for rounds played on any course with an AWCR or TAWCR which is different from that of the normal course. This is done by subtracting or adding to the nett scores, the difference between the AWCR or TAWCR of the normal course and that of the short, long, temporary or composite course. This calculation will be a PAPER ENTRY only for the purposes of entering scores for that Golf NSW Women s Medal round and will have no effect on the club s daily competition or on players handicaps. Example1: Player A plays on the short course (AWCR 71) for the first Golf NSW Women s Medal round. She then reduces her handicap and is now required to play in the next Monthly Women s Medal (and Golf NSW Women s Medal round) on the long course (AWCR 73). Since the player remains in the Division of the NSW Women s Medal in which she was placed for her first round, when the Committee records her nett score for any Golf NSW Women s Medal rounds subsequently played on the long course, they must subtract 2 from her nett scores. Example2: Player B plays on the long course (AWCR 73) for the first Golf NSW Women s Medal round. She then increases her handicap and plays the next round on the short course (AWCR 71). When the committee records her nett score for any Golf NSW Women s Medal round played on the short course, they must add 2 to her nett score. Example 3: A club s normal course has an AWCR of 71 and a long course AWCR of 73. In one of the Golf NSW Women s Medal rounds the whole field plays the long course. When recording the nett scores for that Golf NSW Women s Medal round, all players in the field will have their nett scores reduced by 2 strokes. Example 4: A club s normal course has an AWCR of 73 and a short or temporary course AWCR/TAWCR of 71. In one of the Golf NSW Women s Medal rounds the whole field plays the short or temporary course. When recording the nett scores for that NSW Women s Medal round, all players in the field will have their nett scores increased by 2 strokes. Please note that the scores for the daily competition and for handicapping in the examples above will be the scores before the adjustments are made. The adjustments are only for the purposes of entering players scores for the Golf NSW Women s Medal.
