GENERAL BUSINESS Committee to stay until end of competition Lavinia Hill suggested that future AGMs be held at the end of the golfing season. Majority voted for moving the 2013 and future AGMs to the end of the season. Committee will look at the logistics and possible timing of this. Competition winnings to go to members accounts if they are not in attendance at presentation. It was decided to leave the present arrangements in place one month in which to claim winnings. Linda Laws and others pointed out the avenues for determining if winnings were outstanding. Survey Committee to review the results in more depth. Whilst many voted to continue participation in a range of events, fewer members indicated their willingness to support the events they felt should continue. The example of GQ events was highlighted 42 felt we should continue whilst 30 were prepared to participate and this year s figures Invitation Day It was suggested by Gayna that the event be changed from a partnered game to a single stableford event. Show of hands 21 for, 40 against. Alice Daw asked for a show of hands for a shotgun start on Invitation Day. 4 for a shotgun start, remainder for a standard timesheet system. Rosebowl It was suggested that it be made an individual event, separate from the normal match of the day. Committee responded that it was run separately within the whole timesheet for the day and most Rose Bowl players played together apart from some of our members partnered with Rose Bowl players as a matter of courtesy. We are not able to access any further timeslots to enable it to be run as a standalone event. Stroke Play Elaine Lyons suggested changing stroke play from 4 players to 3 players for a 3 month trial period to help the field move more smoothly. Discussion ensued on how it would affect timesheets and the number of time slots we are currently entitled to. Comment was made that it is important that no one misses out. Move for Monthly Medal players to go out in groups of 3 majority against. Monthly Medal Judith Patterson suggested that medal rounds be played in grades. Move for Monthly Medal Day to be played in specific Grades 30 for. Move for Monthly Medal Day to be played on an open time sheet 30 for. Committee 50/50 split. To be reviewed by Joy Esden presented flowers to Gayna Ryan, Danice Blichtfeldt, Judith Dorhauer and all 2012 committee members thanking them on behalf of the lady members. MEETING CLOSED: 1.53 pm.
PRESIDENT S REPORT TO THE WOMEN S ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2013 Welcome again ladies and a big thank you for your attendance today was certainly a very mixed year, both triumph and tragedy touching the club. I would like to begin by thanking you on behalf of the Ladies who were sadly bereaved in 2013, and for those living with a difficult diagnosis for either themselves or their loved ones, for the support you have given each other through these difficult times. Your acts of kindness will long be remembered and for me they epitomise the true meaning of being a club member; we will always do whatever we can to help each other. Moving on to the triumphs of the year, we can all be immensely proud our hosting of Country Week, in all we had over 90 volunteers making sure that the club was shown in its best light and we even managed to produce some winners. To the bakers, the meeters and greeters, the bunker rakers, the car park attendants, the part time waitresses, the girls who spruced up the locker room, the ball marker sellers, the shuttle cart drivers, the lottery ticket sellers and the morning tea attendants a huge thank you you are a credit to your club. My congratulations go to all this year s winners and particularly to the Grade 3 pennant squad who brought home the Zone Pennant. Raye Cairns was not only a member of this squad but managed to bring home the B Grade Districts Vets Championship as well. Thank you to all the Ladies who represent the club in such a friendly and professional manner at away events. Thank you must also go to all of you, for your patience this year as the new computer system was installed, the car park was refurbished and the fairway renovations continue. Hopefully you are now beginning to see the benefits of these changes As I step down as Ladies President, I must acknowledge my huge debt of gratitude to Delys Murray, not only for her unfaltering support of myself over the last 3 years, but for the 10 years on Committee that she has put into making this such a great club. She has covered almost all the roles on the committee and worked tirelessly on behalf of the Ladies. Delys, you will be missed for your enthusiasm, dedication, professionalism and in depth knowledge of the workings of the club. We wish you well as you enjoy a welldeserved rest. Connie Gordon is stepping down from her role as handicap manager, having done a great job in guiding us through the new system. She has also proved to be extremely calm in a crisis, of which initially, the new computer system caused us one too many! I am personally addicted to her gluten free fruit cake, so although she may be absolved of her committee duties, her baking obligations continue. Marg is also stepping down from committee and she will be sorely missed. She has cheerfully handled whatever has been thrown at her from being temporary treasurer and secretary to sourcing the raffle prizes and much, much more. Her attention to detail and her eye for what will be visually pleasing is exemplary and as the queen of foofing she has certainly raised the standard of presentation in the club. To Jenny, Lindy, Marjorie, Maz and Maree who are standing for committee positions again, it has been a pleasure to work with you and I wish you every success for next year. We did a lot of hard work and had a lot of fun and that s the way it should be. Many other ladies have given up their time to support the committee this year and special thanks go to June Drsydale and Charmaine McCormick for their work behind the scenes, as well as the Ladies who have helped us with cards on Thursdays. To all the ladies who have taken the time to bake such wonderful treats for our morning teas, our tastebuds, if not our waistlines, are very grateful to you. I would like to pass the thanks of all the lady members onto Dan and his staff for their continuing efforts in to keep the course in such wonderful condition.
Glen, Tony, Jackie, Maddy and Jess in the bar have looked after us wonderfully and our thanks go to Mark, Shane, Scotty and Tim in the pro shop and Allan, Tamara and Aimee in the office for their ongoing support. Andrew s work with the juniors and in sorting out our swings is much appreciated. In the kitchen Tony, Gavin, Leanne, and Kylie have done us proud and it is a pleasure to come into such a friendly and welcoming club. My thanks for your support over the last 3 years and good golfing in 2014 Arlene Penlington Women s President
CAPTAIN S REPORT TO WOMEN S ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2013 Last year I began my report with a variation on some lyrics to represent the executive summary and thought seriously about an appropriate lyric for It was difficult to find something that encapsulated both the golfing year and what is my final year as Captain. The Frank Sinatra signature tune, I Did It My Way came to mind and it, in some way, may be appropriate in that it opens with, And now the end is near. To add a golfing slant... We ve travelled each and every fairway...and in my case, more than my fair share of rough! The title gave me cause to reflect on my way. My way over the three years as Captain, two years as Vice Captain, year as Vice President and four years involved in handicapping has been characterised by planning (to quote the lyrics, I planned each charted course, each careful step along the fairway ) and organisation. I m confident this has built on the great work and strengths of previous Captains and committees and has always looked at opportunities for improvement. I ve had the privilege to not only work with some wonderfully skilled and talented people, but more importantly to view them as friends. I sincerely thank all those with whom I ve worked over my time on committee. Enough of a personal reflection, time to reflect on the golfing year, one which began with the dreaded four letter word, rain, but fortunately settled and saw fewer cancelled competitions, fewer days on which we had preferred lies and only one rescheduled event, Invitation Day. Whilst many did anchor during this time, just as at this time last year, we have benefitted from the recent fine conditions and run and dare I say it, we were actually looking forward to rain events. The impact of course conditions on our handicaps will fortunately be part of next year s full introduction of the Slope system. From January 20 th, the scheduled date for full introduction of the system, each club s individual slope rating (ours is 126 on the Red Course) compared to the base rating of 113, will be used in determining your playing handicap on the day. The impact of your score on the day will also take into account the Daily Slope Rating; in other words, the difficulty of the course on the day. This is akin to the adjustment we used to do based on the top eight scores or, before that, the table for course conditions. You can tell I ve been around a long time if I can remember all these variations on handicapping. The golfing calendar has, as usual, proved to be a busy one with pennant once again a feature for the first half of the year. Our four teams three weekday and one weekend were admirably led by Judy Patterson, Arlene Penlington, Maz Gray and Linda Jedynak. Thank you to these captains, the team members and of course the caddies. Special mention should go to our Division 3 team members and caddies for their sterling effort in not only winning the northern Section of Division 3, but going on to win the overall pennant. Thanks to the committee members and team of bakers who have assisted on our numerous hosting days. Not only did we host three pennant days, Invitation Day, Rose Bowl and Open Day, but we also jointly hosted the highly successful Women s Country Championships. The success was due, in no small part, to the team of volunteers, around 90 over the three days, who gave so freely of their time to support the club and more specifically, the women. In addition to the volunteers, we were well supported by the Club Executive who approved our hosting of the event, the Tuesday Club members who were happy to forgo their day and all the staff who worked on our behalf. Congratulations to all our players who entered these competitions, particularly the number of you who played well and won individual and team events in the Championships. Irene Kerr was the 36 hole nett winner in Bronze 2, scoring 42 points on our course in the second round. Sandy Kiely was nett fourth in the Bronze 2, 36 hole event. In the Foursomes, Irene Kerr continued her good form partnering Julie Fiegl to win the trophy for Division 4 gross. Connie Gordon and Raye Cairns were Division 2 nett winners. Gwen Steel and Dot Heaslip were nett runners up in Division 1.
Continuing with the year s results, congratulations go to all the major trophy winners listed below. The list is not complete as there are other results for consistency events which will be announced on Presentation Day; we do like to keep some surprises for the year. Congratulations also to all weekly prize recipients whose results have already been published throughout the year. Thanks to Connie Gordon and Maree Watson-Brown for all their work with the weekly results and Maz Gray for making sure winners received their prizes. Part of the reason our golfing calendar is so full is the many outside events available to us. Lindy Owen did a sterling job of informing all of all these events and cajoling us to participate, while Marjorie Dean kept track of all our payments. Our participation rate was maintained and we did manage to perform quite credibly in the nett pennant competition, being only one point off the lead going into the final event. Although we didn t win, I do sincerely thank all those members who were prepared to travel to these outside events. I do hope that in 2014 we are able to build on our performance this year. Thanks to Jenny Schofield for maintaining communication with our three women s golfing sub clubs Veterans, Monday 9 hole group and the Saturday group and thanks also to the organisers of these groups. The continued support of these groups has seen the numbers on Saturday grow as we attract new members through the range of golfing opportunities available. We thank the Club Executive for returning our additional line to accommodate the increase in demand on Saturdays. The nine hole group continues with healthy numbers and provides an important golfing opportunity for introducing new golfers, those returning from ill health and those who prefer to play only one 18 hole competition a week. As always, there are many who have worked to look after us both on course and off. Our starters, Ken Rogers, Peter Gordon and Joy Wright have once again done a sterling job managing our competitions with, at times, names disappearing before their eyes as late cancellations wreaked havoc and caused many timesheet changes. They did appreciate those players who willingly moved as requested. The committee also appreciated the courtesy shown by those players who contacted their playing partners prior to withdrawing from competitions. I d like to reiterate the thanks expressed by Arlene to our Manager Allan Harris and the Administration staff, Glen Puckeridge and the bar staff, Tony Rogers and the bistro staff and the Shane Healey, Scott Olander and the Pro Shop staff. Special mention should be made of the Pro Shop s continued sponsorship which has facilitated special days as well as the regular prizes like Medal Day gross prize. Thanks also to Dan Breen and his staff for not only presenting the course at such a high standard, but also for their work in the continued development of our course. Finally, I d like to express my heartfelt thanks to our President, Arlene Penlington whose support and wise counsel has been invaluable during my time as Captain. I d also like to thank all the members of our Women s Committee for their wonderful support throughout this year. The golfing calendar would not happen without their hard work and dedication. A special thank you to the committee members who are retiring Arlene Penlington, whose leadership has been exemplary, Marg Colwell who has been able to turn her hand to any task and whose willingness to step in when and where needed been a huge asset and Connie Gordon who has been our highly organised handicapper and assistant handicapper prior to that. I wish those continuing on committee and those new members to committee every success in the future. Your willingness to continue, in the case of those remaining, and willingness to take on the commitment, in the case of those new members, is greatly appreciated by me and I m sure by all our members. Without their commitment, our golf would not be the same.
Last, and by no means least, I thank you, the members, for your support, friendship and sense of fun; and fun is after all what golf is meant to be.
