1 GATEWAY SOCIETY OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS MANAGERS 2008 ACHMM Chapter of the Year Summer 2008 Newsletter, Part 2 Coming Events Golf Outing & Networking Event GSHMM s Fall Golf Outing and Networking Event is set for Wednesday, September 17, at Crystal Quarry. Sign up as a 4-person team ($260) or as an individual ($65 per person). Derek will mix and match individuals to create teams. Fee includes: box lunch, 18 holes of golf (with cart), and some great networking. Clients and guests are welcome! Registration and lunch start at 11:00 am. Tee-time is noon. And we have prizes (!!) for the various contest of skills: longest drive, closest to the pin, longest putt, cash prizes for the top three teams, and the grand prize for the elusive, yet tantalizing, hole-inone. 2 Miscellaneous The American Lung Association s Clean Air Affaire will be held August 22 at the Lucas School House in Soulard. The event is a silent auction with live music, wine, appetizers, etc. For more information, call Mary at 314/ , ext 1009, or visit The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released a new voluntary, on-line, interactive Chemical Security Awareness Training Program to help chemical sector employees understand what to look for and what to do if they notice anything suspicious at their facilities. The U.S. Chemical Sector has made significant progress identifying and addressing security vulnerabilities at their facilities across the country. DHS is now offering, free-of-charge, the Web-Based Chemical Security Awareness Training Program as another tool that companies across the entire Sector may offer to their employees a facility s first line of defense against potential terrorist attacks and other security threats. The training appropriate for any employee involved in the manufacture, distribution, or storage of chemicals in the United States is conducted entirely on-line. The program also includes training for employees of chemical facilities falling under the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 (MTSA). Based on industry best practices, the interactive program augments a facility s existing training and offers self-guided instruction designed to acquaint and train employees in recommended actions to maintain and improve security at their facility. Instruction modules present scenarios in which the participants must identify a suspicious or nonsecure situation or act, and then must select a corrective action. Incorrect choices will lead to instructional material until the participant makes the correct choice. The knowledge is verified by a short quiz following each module.
