1 For Immediate Release Jordan Schneider, International Junior Golf Tour, International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) Presents 2009 Hank Haney IJGA Invitational Hilton Head Island, SC Sunday, March 15, 2009 TRAHAN IS VICTORIOUS Roth Wins Wire-to-Wire HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC Over the weekend the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) proudly hosted the first Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy (HH IJGA) Invitational. The exclusive event brought players and families from all over the world to compete at the Port Royal Plantation Golf Club on Hilton Head Island. In addition to a paramount field, the event featured numerous special events such as: Guest Speaker Hank Haney, Golf Clinic by Hank Haney IJGA Director of Golf Peter-Krause, Parent Player Shotgun-Round, a Reception Party with a Low Country themed menu and the top competitors walked away with a HH IJGA / IJGT hole flag singed personally by Mr. Hank Haney. As the last putt dropped, three of the four faces in the winner s circle claimed their first IJGT victory in their respective divisions. Callum Trahan of Banchory, United Kingdom and a current student of the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy (HH IJGA) took home his first IJGT title in the Boys Division posting a 3-over-par 147. Derek Bard of New Hartford, NY broke through for the victory in the Boys Division recording a 5-over-par 149. Davidson, NC native, Patrick Cover won the Boys 12 & Under Division with a 153 tournament total, while Sage Roth of Millersville, MD (HH IJGA) won the Girls Division carding a 7-over-par 151 tournament total. Trahan came into the event with one goal in mind; winning-it-all. After Saturday s opening round he found himself a little disappointed when he posted a 6-over-par 80. Starting Sunday s round, he found himself 6 strokes off the lead. Not to be discouraged the United Kingdom native came out firing four birdies and one eagle in his first nine holes for a 5-under-par front nine. Callum maintained his momentum till the end posting an 80, 67 respectively for a 147 tournament total. Coming into today s round, I knew I had to keep the ball in play. After my front nine, I knew I still had to scramble to comeback. All I had to do was make some putts and I would have a chance at victory. After scores were reported and official, Trahan and fellow HH IJGA classmate Greg Schmaus of Upper Saddle River, NJ were forced to go extra holes to determine the champion. After pars on the first playoff hole, the HH IJGA battle came down to a great up-and-down effort by Trahan who sunk a 15 foot putt for par and ultimately for victory. Schmaus played a solid tournament and his 75, 72 claimed second place honors. Rounding out the top three was Scott Simpson of Morrison, IL with consistent rounds of 74, 75 respectively.

In the Boys 13-15 Division, Bard won by two strokes after a great comeback where he bettered his opening round of 79 by nine strokes.

Bard had this to say about his victory: Winning this event feels good, I haven t had much of an opportunity to get outside and practice this year because of the weather back in New York.

Ben Dietrich of Conover, NC (HH IJGA) rounded out the top three shooting a 153 for the tournament. With a 153 two-day total, Cover was the victor in the Boys 12 & Under Division.

His bogey-free-round propelled him up the leaderboard en route to his title Sunday. Bard had this to say about his victory: Winning this event feels good, I haven t had much of an opportunity to get outside and practice this year because of the weather back in New York. I thought I might be a little rusty but the come from behind win was a great confidence boost. Moritz Hausweiler of Dusseldorf, Germany was the runner-up, finishing with a tournament score of 151. Ben Dietrich of Conover, NC (HH IJGA) rounded out the top three shooting a 153 for the tournament. With a 153 two-day total, Cover was the victor in the Boys 12 & Under Division. Cover won the event wireto-wire and had this to say about his first IJGT win; My goal coming into this tournament was to play well and do the best I could. My long irons were working well all weekend; I also adjusted my play so that I wouldn t get ahead of myself down the stretch. Derrick Villarreal of Hartland, WI (HH IJGA) and Charlie Spencer- White of Hilton Head Island, SC both came in second with a 155 for the weekend. After firing a one-under-par first round 71, Roth entered the second round a solid 10 strokes in-front-of the Girls field and wound up winning the division by 14 strokes. It feels really good to say the least, Roth commented about her victory. Coming into this Hank Haney IJGA Parent weekend, I really wanted to put up some good scores to show my parents all the progress that I have made here at the academy; I have put a lot of time into preparing for this event and it paid off. Alice Chen of Princeton, NJ finished in a two-way-tie for second with Aimee Caligiore of Lake Placid, NY (HH IJGA) with a tournament total of 165. The final-round at the Hank Haney IJGA Invitational saw numerous low rounds. Our IJGT belt buckle winners this week were: Callum Trahan of Banchory, United Kingdom (HH IJGA) (67), Derek Bard of New Hartford, NY (70), Derrick Villarreal of Hartland, WI (HH IJGA) (80) Charlie Spencer-White of Hilton Head Island, SC (80), Sage Roth of Millersville, MD (HH IJGA) (80), Aimee Caligiore of Lake Placid, NY (HH IJGA) (80) Alice Chen of Princeton, NJ (84). The IJGT was founded in 1995 for junior golfers ages Its purpose is to provide aspiring collegiate players the opportunity to compete in a series of events against the highest quality U.S. and international competition.
