3 1 About SAMSN Our Vision A society in which male survivors of childhood sexual abuse can access the resources they need to help them deal with the past and live a full and rewarding life. Mission Statement Our mission is to build an Australia-wide support network so that no man experiencing the negative impacts of childhood sexual abuse has to suffer in shame, silence or isolation. Why We Need Your Support In Australian, 1 in every 6 boys are sexually assaulted before they turn 18. The statistics are so high the chances are that at least one man you know is likely to be a childhood sexual abuse survivor even though you may never know. Just like me, most men who were sexually abused as children suffer in silence for an average of 22 years before disclosing, if at all. That s why I m writing to you today. In 2010, together with a fellow survivor, Craig Hughes-Cashmore, we started Survivors & Mates Support Network to give other men who were sexually abused as boys the support they need to put their lives back together. Since the establishment of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in 2013, the demand for our service has increased 10 fold.
