7 July 31 Is National Heatstroke Prevention Day. Join Safe Kids Metro KC in raising awareness! Did you know... In 2013, over 37 unattended children in the US lost their lives in overheated vehicles. Heatstroke can occur in temperatures as low as 57 degrees. At 80 degrees a car can reach deadly temperatures in 10 minutes. A child s body absorbs more heat than an adult s does. A core body temperature of about 107 degrees is lethal. Parking in the shade does not help. Safety Tips Never leave an infant or child unattended in a vehicle. Make a habit of looking in the vehicle - front and back - before locking the door. Leave a reminder note on the dashboard for when you exit the vehicle. Ask your childcare center to call you if your child doesn t arrive on time for childcare. Get Involved Like us on Facebook: Follow us on Join the national Twitter campaign by using #HEATSTROKE and For more info visit these websites: safe_kids_metro. Place your purse, briefcase, or other item you will need in the back seat. Contact us: (816) info@mchc.net #LOOKB4ULOCK! Place a toy in the passenger seat of your vehicle as a reminder that there is a child in the car. If you see a child alone in a hot vehicle, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately.
