Please address all correspondence to the editor. Since I ve been a member of the HFRAACA, the past month or so has been the best time I ve had. My experience with the club only goes back for a little over 6 years, but I doubt we ve had a good a streak as we are having now. The membership meetings have been brimming to capacity, and each event we have done lately has wildly exceeded anyone s expectations. We are coming off a historic win at the recent ODMA show in Woodbridge. The Fredericksburg Region carried all three major trophies and completely dominated the event with our participants. To our knowledge, this has never been done before in the history of the ODMA. It s even more special for our club since victories for these trophies have historically been dominated by the Richmond and Tidewater Regions. The following weekend, our club took a tour to the newly restored Montpelier Estate, home of James Madison, 4th President of the United States and father of the Constitution. This was one of the best tours I ve been on with the club. We had an excellent drive that allowed us to get our old cars on some open rural highways, there was plenty to see at Montpelier, and it was all followed by a fine lunch in Gordonsville. If you haven t seen Montpelier in a few years, you will be surprised at the magnificent restoration they have completed. Then on the first Saturday in June, we held our annual show, for the first time on Caroline Street, right in the heart of downtown Fredericksburg. It was successful beyond anyone s imagination. It was the largest show our club has had in recent memory with a little under 200 antique cars and few thousand spectators in attendance. The city, participants, spectators, and club members all seemed to be pleased with the day. There was a wide range of cars on display, with something for everyone to see, from the early brass era to antique cars from the 1980 s. Displays and events such as the take-apart Model T, antique fire engines, and an energetic radio show from 95.9 FM, kept the spectators engaged and at the event. We re already planning for next year. Even the weather has worked out for us. It seems like it has rained constantly this spring and early summer season, but we have pretty much escaped the rain with most of our events. So, if you re reading this and are not currently active with the club, get involved so you don t miss out on these great times. Andy Gotchel

6 Page 6 Caroline St, Fredericksburg, VA, June 6, 2009 WOW! By Sue Fanelli The day began a little bit cloudy, but overall the weather was perfect not too hot, a nice breeze, and of course lots of lovely shade trees to keep us cool. We arrived early to give us lots of time to unload the cars and get everything set up. As the mornining sun rose over Caroline Street, they started arriving. First it was a few at a time; but soon, the street was lined with beautiful and unique antique cars waiting for their turn to park along the historic boulevard. For the first time that the shop owners could remember, a big part of Caroline Street was closed for the day, allowing auto enthusiasts and tourists alike to enjoy the historic downtown area free of traffic. The 52nd annual Fredericksburg Region Antique Auto Club of America show was a HUGE (and I do mean huge) success! Over 175 antique cars lined Caroline and some of the adjacent side streets, and a few even showed up in the Visitor Center parking lot from time-to-time. People there were people EVERYWHERE strolled peacefully up and down the streets, gazing at the awesome cars and checking out the shops. An article on fredericksburg.com, written on June 4, stated that Brown is expecting between 500 and 700 people to come to downtown Fredericksburg on Saturday for the 52nd annual Antique Car Show. I can tell you that his estimate was off by at least an order of magnitude! As for the shopping I can tell you from personal experience that the line at the ice cream store was much longer than the line for the restrooms.

7 Page 7 The Model T take-apart and reassembly was a huge hit folks found it hard to find a spot from which to watch. The music (different music as you went from one end of the show to the other) was inviting and upbeat. I talked to a few of the shop owners as I wandered Caroline Street, and they all seemed very happy to have such a wonderful festival at their front doors. Very Special thanks to J. Gordon Brown, who had the foresight and fortitude to ask for the unthinkable. Without his tireless efforts, this show would not have been so successful. Thanks to ALL of the vehicle owners for bringing some incredible examples of antique automobiles and spending the time to talk to anyone interested in their vehicles. Congratulations to our prize winners you can be very proud of your accomplishments here we come! This was a wonderful venue for a wonderful show.

10 Page 10 Old Dominion Meet Association May 16th, 2009 A Day to be Remembered by Lauman Schooler Saturday, May 16th, 2009! A day to be remembered by Historic Fredericksburg Region. 27 members showed 22 vehicles at the VFW on Minnieville Road in Woodbridge. There were 103 vehicles registered so we had one fourth of the total vehicles on the field. To rest easy the minds of those who showed their cars; all won something. It was a beautiful day! One little rain shower about 10:30! Judging began about 11 AM until about 1 PM. Best of show was then decided. Frances and I left and brought our cars home, freshened up a bit and returned to VFW for the banquet at 6:30. Ben and Suzanne also brought their cars home and returned for awards time. Unbelievable! Historic Fredericksburg seemed to get every other award called.
