2 TAKIN IT TRACKSIDE By Toby Batchelder Many exciting announcements took place this week. The Race Against Cancer Event is on August 25th and fundraising efforts have begun. Race fans, this is your opportunity to help your favorite driver gain a better starting position in the feature event. Race teams are currently registering on the site to take donations electronically or you can do it the old-fashioned way by handing it to him/her. To make a donation to your driver s cause, visit and click on the banner on the home page. You can then search by name to make your donation. George Powers and I also have a page to do our part as well so if you would like to do a general donation, you may do so on ours. We thank you in advance for supporting this event and our race teams. Last year was a very memorable night and word is, we may have a special guest driver in one of the divisions. Daddy s Pizza in Claremont, NH has come onboard by sponsoring the Modified Twin 30 s event on August 4. Daddy s Pizza has been a supporter of the track this year allowing us to film our Facebook Live events there in the off-season which will continue this winter as well. They are also running a promotion until the 4th. Spend $ 20 and you will receive a $ 5 off grandstand admission to that event. The purse for the event has been increased too as we are expecting over 16 cars to compete in the event. Bonus money has been added for the top 3 in each race as well. Track Management is currently working on rescheduling some of the lost events due to rain so look for details on those dates as they become available. Tonight the EKeys4Cars Northeast Classic Lites visit the speedway for the first time since cars are expected to participate which should yield a great show. August is action-packed with our Daddy s Pizza Modified Twin 30 s on August 4. The Senior Tour Auto Racers join the Limited Sportsman extra distance event on August 11. August 25 is our Race Against Cancer Event. Support your favorite driver and put them on the front row. Based on what was the most memorable night during 2016 and left the racing community extremely proud, speedway ownership has decided to continue the Race Against Cancer Event with fundraising proceeds benefitting the Friends of Norris Cotton Cance Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. The Race Against Cancer Event will be held August 25 with the rain date set for August 26. Last year, race teams and fans were able to raise $ 30,000 for the organization. A driver s starting position was based the amount of money raised. Drivers are creating pages on their site to collect donations for their cause. The mission of the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center is to support the work of Norris Cotton Cancer Center by raising funds for cancer research and patient services, increasing awareness for this nationally recognized Comprehensive Cancer Center, and acting as ambassadors between the Cancer Center and the communities it serves. Norris Cotton Cancer Center is a world-renowned cancer treatment and research facility affiliated with The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. 4 MODIFIEDS Former Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Unser once said, Success is where preparation and opportunity meet. For Brian Robie, that mantra held true as Robie picked up his first career Tour-Type Modified win last Friday night in the 30-lap Casella Modified feature event. Arriving when the pit gates opened, Robie unloaded and walked the track not having to rush heading into the night s activities and while he did have some challenges in practice, he was able to rectify those early. After winning the heat race and starting on the pole, Robie took advantage of the opportunity to lead every lap in the feature. Nine cars took the initial green with Robie and Christopher Bolton pacing the field with Nick Salva and Todd Patnode in pursuit. A quick caution on Lap 2 sent Jeffrey Murray sailing through the infield as he and current point leader Dana Smith made contact. Both restarted from the rear of the field as Robie, Salva, and Bolton continued to set the pace. On Lap 12, Salva tried to take the lead from Robie in Turn 3 but made contact with the leader and was forced to start from the rear. With 5 to go, Patnode and Murray made contact in Turns 1 and 2 which allowed Smith and Scott Mac- Michael to finish 2nd and 3rd. Salva finished 4th while Bolton came home 5th. The Casella Modifieds are back in action on August 4 for their special event, the Daddy s Pizza Modified Twin 30 s. A larger purse and bonuses for the top 3 in each segment race will be awarded. IN THE DRIVER S SEAT This was Brian Robie s 2nd race in a Tour-Type Modified. Five cautions slowed the event - the most on the season for the open-wheelers. With the Modified Racing Series and Modified Touring Series both in action on the same night as us, we still were able to field 9 cars. The top 3 are essentially teammates. Robie, Smith, and MacMichael share space together. Smith continues to lead the NCWRS point standings. The modifieds have lost 2 races due to weather.

5 Brian Robie saw nothing but clear track in front of him all night as he won his heat race and led all 30 laps in the feature. This was Robie s first Tour-Type Modified win. Current point leader Dana Smith finished 2nd for his 4th podium finish on the season. Scott MacMichael brought the X Machine for a podium finish as he ended up 3rd.

8 SUPER STREETS Radical Ricky Bly won his first feature of the season leading the last 27 laps. Change is a good thing. For the R.E. Hinkley Super Streets this season, there has been a new face in KIXX Victory Lane 6 times in 7 races. Radical Ricky Bly became the newest member of that exclusive club taking the lead from Bryan Town on Lap 14 and outdueling the competition on 4 restarts to claim his first feature win of the year. Andrew Martell led the first 9 laps of the caution-filled event with Town, Bly, Jeff Morse, and Ben Poland in tow. Town finally got by Martell on Lap 10 with Bly, Poland, and current point leader Hayden Scott right behind. Bly was not to be denied on this night as he passed Town on Lap 14 to take the lead for the remainder of the event. Poland, Scott, and the Original Craig Smith all were able to race past Town by Lap 24 to finish in that order. 2-time winner Jack McClay clawed his way from the back of the pack to finish 5th, his 5th top 5 on the season. Town, Lenny Silver, Dylan Bodreau, Joe Brown, and the Other Craig Smith rounded out the top 10. The Newport Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points chase is a crazy one as Scott only enjoys a 10 point lead on Bly with Jack McClay a close 19 points behind in 3rd. Smith (23) sits 4th in the point standings only 24 behind while Dylan Bodreau is down 31 points in 5th.

After 7 races last year, there were only 4 different feature winners. There were 7 different winners all of last season. Judge Joe Brown moved up 14 positions in the 40 laps. He finished 9th. Ben Poland matched his best finish of the year after placing second. Poland finished P2 in Race 2. Mark McClay ran his new car but has mechanical issues and was forced pitside on Lap 6. Kenny Fowler was in the Green Goblin and placed 12th. A full field of 24 cars took the green flag.

10 Charlestown s Ben Poland was very happy with his runner up finish. He has been mired in some bad luck lately but this should snap that streak. Jack McClay finished 5th in the feature- his 4th podium finish of the year. Mark Blair finished 13th.

11 Super sophomore driver Hayden Scott took home 3rd after starting from the 14th starting spot. This is Scott s 5th top 5. Flyin Bryan Town finished 6th. 14 LIMITED SPORTSMAN Polish Prince Tyler Janovsky locked up his 2nd feature win of the season. Senioritis is a supposed affliction of students in their final year of high school or college, characterized by a decline in motivation or performance. While Tyler Janovsky may experience that in his high school classroom this fall, there are no worries of that taking place on the asphalt as the Polish Prince fired from the 3rd starting position on the initial green flag to lead all 25 laps in the Pepsi Limited Sportsman feature for his 2nd feature win of the year. Rookie Chris Colburn continued his strong season by finishing as the runner-up, his fourth podium finish in a row. Fellow high school senior Hot Stuff Kenny Thompson was awarded 3rd place. Chris Gilbert continued his string of top 5 s as he was 4th for the 3rd time in a row. Rookie Briana Akusis was 5th. Janovsky jumped out to a lead with Joe Tetreault in pursuit and former champion David Greenslit closing in. Tetreault had a tire go down forcing him to the pits for a tire change after Greenslit was able to get by. Colburn had made his way to 3rd at this point, and Janovsky, Greenslit, and Colburn stayed in that order until Lap 23 when engine trouble sent Greenslit up the road to the pits. Janovsky has a slim 7 point lead on Thompson and 20 on Colburn in the Newport Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings. 15 Rookie Chris Colburn won the heat race and came up just shy in the feature with a runner-up finish. This was his 4th top 3. Kenny Thompson grabbed his 5th podium finish of the season with a 3rd place effort. IN THE DRIVER S SEAT Rookie Briana Akusis finished 5th, her 2nd top 5 on the season while improving every week. David Greenslit (pictured) was running 2nd when on Lap 23, he went pit side with motor issues. Andrew Merritt joined us for the first time this season. Kyle Davis borrowed that car in the first week.

18 WILDCATS Kodi Sabins may have earned himself the nickname, Dominator, as he won both segments to win the big money. The Wildcat division lived up to the wild in its name as 18 eligible drivers, the most this season, participated in the Cody LaFont Memorial Twin 25 s. The Commander Kodi Sabins may need a new nickname as he cleaned house winning both twin races to be declared the overall winner in the inaugural memorial event. Sabins pocketed a larger than advertised award as well, possibly the largest ever for a 4-cylinder division at Claremont Speedway. The first segment race found Chris Carver and DJ Girard on the front row with Girard claiming the top spot until Samantha Stoddard paced the field for 3 laps until a caution for Seth Melcher against the wall brought the field back together. Matt Gauffin took the lead on the restart and led until Lap 13 when Sabins, firing from the 9th starting spot, was able to get by Gauffin and never looked back. Gauffin finished 2nd while current point leader Zach Lyn claimed 3rd. Stoddard and Dale Squires Jr. rounded out the Top 5. The second segment race started out chaotically before the first lap was even completed as two separate incidents including a large pileup in Turn 1 found Stoddard, Sam Giveen, Girard, and Jim Carley done for the night. Gauffin, having started 11th in the 2nd event, already was your leader on Lap 2 with Sabins, Kyle Currier, and Lyn following suit until Sabins took the lead on Lap 12. Lyn was able to get by Gauffin on Lap 19 but had nothing for Sabins as the Windsor, VT driver picked up his second segment race win and was the overall feature winner. Lyn placed 2nd, his 6th podium finish of the year, Gauffin was 3rd. Kyle Currier had his best run of the year thus far finishing 4th. Squires Jr. finished 5th, his 7th Top 5. Current point leader Zach Lyn finished 2nd overall. Matt Gauffin finished 3rd overall in the event.

Leading rookie of the year contender Sam Giveen was unable to start the heat or first race due to mechanical issues. In the second race, he was caught up in the wreck in Turn 1 hitting the wall hard. Kodi Sabins led 27 of the 50 laps. Matt Gauffin led 19. Both compete on the Northeast Mini Stock Tour. A number of drivers had their best finish of the year in one of the races. Stoddard (4th), Currier (4th), Zachary Morse (6th), and Justin Littlewood (7th). Overall Currier finished 4th and Littlewood 7th. Zach Lyn, Nick Little, and Kodi Sabins batlle during T-Bird Mini Mart Wildcats heat race action.

22 14 year old Zachary Morse ended up 10th overall in the Cody Lafont Memorial Twin 25 s. Morse finished 14th and 6th in each 25 lap race. Hailee LaFont waves the green flag to start the first heat race for the T-Bird Mini Mart Wildcats. Samantha Stoddard was 9th overall after recording her best finish of the year in Segment 1 where she finished P4. She was involved in an accident on the first lap in Segment 2 and was unable to continue. Kodi Sabins and Matt Gauffin battled all night. Nick Little (8) runs the inside groove on Samantha Stoddard while Kyle Currier runs the high side. Little finished 6th overall while Currier placed 4th.
