3 TAKIN IT TRACKSIDE By Toby Batchelder I doubt Eddie Rabbitt was a race fan given his hit, I Love a Rainy Night. For the 2nd time in five attempts, we were dealt a rainout last week forcing the postponement of the Dean Smith 52-Lap Memorial Race for the R.E. Hinkley Super Streets, as well as the Casella Modifieds, Pepsi Limited Sportsman, and T-Bird Mini Mart Wildcats. While the weather looked suspect for this week, it appears we will be able to get our race card in and oh boy, it is a dandy. The Granite State Pro Stock Series comes back to where it all began in 2011 with the Claremont 100. Last year Jeremy Davis came home victorious by.024 seconds. As of Tuesday, 23 cars have registered to compete. The R.E. Hinkley Super Streets will run the Dean Smith 52-Lap Memorial Race for an increased purse including some lap incentives. The winner takes home a minimum of $ 1,000. A full field is expected to race in memory of Dean. The Limited Sportsman and Wildcats are also part of the race card as well in what is sure to be an exciting night. Jampacked too. Ownership has also decided to keep the admission at only $ 10 for ages 6 and up for this event. Bring your friends and their families for a night of full-fendered fun! Next week we roll back the clock, try to fit in our leisure suits and boogie down for Disco Night.

4 SUPER STREETS KIXX Victory Lane was radical this week as two of that nickname found themselves on the podium for Race 3 of the Newport Chevolet Weekly Racing Series. Cavendish, Vt s Russ Davis stole the show as he came home victorious by passing Bryan Town on Lap 31 and never looking back to get his first win of Davis started on the inside of the 3rd row and found himself in 2nd by Lap 6 only to bide his time in the 40-lap feature event. Jack McClay finished 2nd for his 2nd podium finish of the season. Current point leader Ricky Bly finished 3rd for the 2nd time this year. Six cautions slowed the action during the first half of the race as 21 cars took the initial green flag. Town ended up finishing 4th for his 1st top 5 of the season. Newport s Craig Smith, sporting a throwback paint scheme on his backup car in tribute to his father, came home 5th. 2nd. Mark McClay was 7th. Andrew Martell (above) continued his strong start to the season by finishing 8th. Zach Jewett was 9th and Judge Joe Brown was 10th. The Supers will be running the Dean Smith 52-Lap Memorial Race tonight with an increased purse and lap incentives this Friday night. Hayden Scott, who currently sits 2nd in the point standings, finished 6th after starting Radical Russ Davis was back in victory lane as the winner in the R.E. Hinkley Super Street feature.

As he was Race 2 s winner, he qualified for the feature event during the heats and decided to start at the rear of the field. He ended up 7th. Had he won, he would have received a crisp $ 100 bill in Victory Lane. Rookie Alex Poisson had his best finish of the season as he finished 13th. Current rookie point leader Craig Smith had a rough evening after winning his heat race. He started 3rd and ran in the top 5 for the first half of the race but went pit side several times due to a loose wheel and ended up finishing 12th. Ricky Bly is the current point leader with Hayden Scott trailing by 8 points. Jack Mc- Clay sits in 3rd followed by Dylan Bodreau and rookie Craig Smith. Superman Aaron Fellows did not race as he focused his efforts to help his cousin, Craig Smith, during the evening. In fact, all members of Fellows crew assisted. Parity. 3 different winners in 3 races to start the season. Neither Fellows raced.

6 Jack McClay started 9th and recorded his 2nd podium of the season with a 2nd. Radical Ricky Bly needs to add another shelf to the shop as he logged his 3rd trophy in as many weeks with a 3rd place finish. Drew Davis had a number switch on his ride in memory of Dean Smith.

15 2016 Wildcat Champion Kodi Sabins finished 9th in the North East Mini Stock Tour event. 30 cars started the 50-lap race. Julia Raymond (62), Roger Raymond s granddaughter, had a good run cut short after being involved in an multi-car accident in Turn 4. Nick Anderson won the caution-filled event.

16 LIMITED SPORTMAN With gift giving, they say it s the thought that counts. For Hot Stuff Kenny Thompson, the birthday gift he gave his father, Ken, on Friday night will be cherished as the high school junior led every lap en route to his 2nd career feature win. Last year s Rookie of the Year started on the pole and was able to pace the field with the Polish Prince Tyler Janovsky in tow. Thompson seemed to get stronger as the event went on as only one caution on Lap 1 slowed the action. The Villain Scott Vien finished 3rd, Joe Tetreault came home 4th and Chris Colburn was 5th. Janovsky is the current Newport Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point leader in the division as he has a 6 point advantage over Thompson. Josh Ruel is currently 3rd and Colburn is 4th. Vien is sitting in 5th. 17 IN THE DRIVER S SEAT The division has enjoyed 3 different winners (Vien, Janovsky, and Thompson) in as many weeks. 14-year-old Briana Akusis raced for the first time this season. She previously competed in the Granite State Mini-Sprints. Cote Swenson was scratched from the feature event with mechanical trouble. 20 Dylan Bodreau had a rough outing in the feature event but currently sits 4th in the NCWRS point standings. Bodreau finished 11th. Craig Smith sported a throwback paint scheme on his backup car in tribute to his father, Dean, who passed on May 15. Dean ran this look during his racing career. Smith finished 5th in the feature. The feature winner, Russ Davis, and runner-up, Jack McClay, get their work in during practice sessions.

22 WILDCATS Smoke signals were sent by Greg Millette to everyone in the T-Bird Mini Mart Wildcat division that he may be the guy to beat this season. Millette started on the pole and led every lap to secure his 2nd win in 3 outings. Zach Lyn enjoyed his best career finish as he battled with Millette the entire race to finish 2nd. Dale Squires Jr. came home 3rd after starting dead last due to his win the previous week. FEATURE RESULTS FIN ST CAR # DRIVER Greg Millette Zach Lyn Dale Squires jr Nick Little Kyle Currier After Lyn was able to get by Millette on Lap 3, a caution for the # 99 of David Donahue reverted the field back to the previous lap which was all Smoke needed. Another caution on Lap 10 bunched the field yet again but Milette was able to put some distance between himself and Lyn to take home the checkers. Nick Little has his best run of the season as he ran in 3rd for every lap but the last one as Squires Jr. was able to get by. Millette has an 11 point lead on Squires heading into Race 4. Millette will start last this upcoming week. Zach Lyn had his car dialed in but used up his tires early in the feature and was unable to get by Millette. Dale Squires Jr. was +10 after starting 13th. He had moved to 5th by the halfway point.
