When determining your budget amount, please consider what was spent this year and don't forget to include any costs for PR that your committee may need next year, especially as it relates to advertising for the geranium sale, style show, 16 days of activism, and membership drives. 4 ZEE NEWS - FEBRUARY 2018 PAGE 4 SPRING STYLE SHOW: APRIL 12, 2018 Zonta Club of Findlay welcomes you to attend our Spring Style Show on Thursday, April 12, Proceeds will benefit Open Arms Domestic Violence & Rape Crisis Services and Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) Forensic Nurse Program. (SANE). Monies donated to Open Arms will be used to purchase supplies and educational items for their weekly women s survivor support groups. Monies donated to BVHS Forensic Nurse Program will be used towards the SANE program. The program helps women from the initial medical care from sexual assault. They would like to help women through the judicial system to prosecute their perpetrators.

5 ZEE NEWS - FEBRUARY 2018 PAGE 5 OHIO MEANS JOBS CARRY IN Ohio Means Jobs needs their closet filled for women seeking interview and work clothes. We (Service Committee) will be collecting items through the end of March for this worthwhile cause. Thanks, Diane E LOUISVILLE CLUB FUNDRAISER Regarding the Louisville Club fundraiser in April 2018: I have asked Joyce to hold 2 tables for me. Bill and I are going, another young couple we know are going and Mary Kay Combs has said she wants seats for 4. So, if there are only 8 from Findlay, I will let the other table go, but if more from our club/community would like to go, then I will make sure we can sit together. 7 ZEE NEWS - FEBRUARY 2018 PAGE 7 AMELIA EARHART PROGRAM MEETING In honor of Amelia Earhart, Kathy Foust invited her niece Colonel Carey Wagen, U.S. Army, retired officer to present to the Zonta Club of Findlay. Colonel Wagen s presentation was so moving. From personal experience, she expressed many sentiments; some of which were: Don t let society determine what you do. Be inspired. Have a passion. And don t let anyone deter you. Colonel Wagen is hopeful that with each generation, we get closer to total equality as her sons ask her Why not when she explained women were not allowed in the infantry.

11 ZEE NEWS - FEBRUARY 2018 PAGE 11 ZONTA CLUB OF FINDLAY Business Meeting - Draft January 2, 2018 President Jane Shoemaker called the meeting to order at 12:12 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance and Zonta Prayer. Members: 20 Guests: 0 Service Hours: 68 Fund Raising: 30 Advocacy: 12 Benevolence Fund basket was passed and fines were collected in the middle of the table, 50 cents for not wearing your pin, 50 cents for not wearing your name tag. Question of the day: Who was the first woman to fly solo around the world? No one had the answer: Geraldine Jerrie (Fredritz) Mock, the Flying Housewife, in She happens to be Jane's father's first cousin. Amelia Earhart tried in This is Amelia Earhart month. Celebrations: Birthdays for January: 2 Paula McRill 17 Kristi Bryant 29 Lyn Benavides Anniversaries: None 60 Seconds of Business: None, Amy Laibe wasn't able to attend today. President s Remarks: Thanks to the program, fellowship, membership and attendance committees for planning a wonderful Christmas party. Christy Santistevan was inducted. Make sure you've added Christy to your lists (fitnessbychristy@gmail.com) and remove Jeanne Fast, who has resigned. The January newsletter went out December 20. The calendar is also on line.

Friday, January 5, there will be a Human Trafficking speaker at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Human Trafficking Awareness Day at the state capital is coming up. Maile Doyle, Kathy Foust, Lyn Benavides and possibly Jane Shoemaker are planning to attend. Jane will regarding carpooling. Please register separately. Board Report: The Board did not meet in December. Next board meeting is January 25. OLD BUSINESS: Minutes from the December Business Meeting: Carol Metzger made a motion to approve, Lyn Benavides seconded; with there being no changes or discussion, motion carried. Treasurer s report Barb Wilson couldn't be here today. The December Fund Balance and Budget vs. Actual reports were on the tables. Committee chairs, please check your actual figures vs. budget. Nut & Candy sale money is in. A question was asked about the savings account containing a large amount, $11, This is unallocated and it's in reserve for operating expenses. We start with a zero balance every year. Budget meeting is coming up next week and will discuss. Meal invoices went out December 4, so please pay asap if you haven't already done so. Ballots were on the table for choosing the 2018 nominating committee who will nominate new officers and directors. Please vote for 3. Results: Jeanne Atkins, the top vote getter, will chair the committee that also includes Jodi DeVore and Andrea Reinhart. NEW BUSINESS/COMMITTEE REPORTS: Fellowship: Becky Noack Fellowship event Friday, January 26, 6:00 to 10:00 pm, a record party at Becky's house, 319 Glendale. No sign up required, can come any time. Husbands, friends and prospective members are invited. BYOB, Becky will have appetizers or you may bring some. Finance: Carol Metzger/Lisa Loughman Thank you to Lisa for a successful nut & candy sale. Geranium orders are due today, please give orders to Maile. Finance meeting will be held next week and they will begin the budgeting process.

13 ZEE NEWS - FEBRUARY 2018 PAGE 13 Membership: Diane Ellerbe Definition of service hours handouts were on the tables. Diane will update the membership directory by the end of the month. We have 36 members and are planning a speed dating event for prospective members. The date is TBD. Service: Has 5 of 6 request forms for funding back and have asked for projects. There will be carry ins through the end of March for business clothes, purses and jewelry for Ohio Means Jobs. Z-Club: Kristi Bryant/Jane Heringhaus/Barb Wilson Cake raffles have brought in $600. They bought Christmas gifts for a family and delivered them to the Salvation Army. They also went caroling. Next meeting is January 10. Style Show: Maile reports they are working on sponsors and those sponsors are excited about the new venue. Scholarship/Awards Kelli Jo Arndt has a broken ankle and can't drive. Deb Bartlett will contact her. Fellowship will send a card from the club. Attendance: Jodi DeVore asked that if you are not attending a meeting, please notify her no later than Monday that week. Archives: Kathy Creighton 2019 is our club's 60 th anniversary and if we want to do an event, Archives will partner with other committees. Maile will type up a list of ideas from District, however, Jane may have the list. We could consider celebrating in conjunction with the May banquet and could use reserve funds. Advocacy/ZSN: Karen Flanagan no report. Public Relations: Melissa Crowe could not attend today, no report. Program: Kathy Foust Next meeting is January 16. Kathy's niece Carrie Wagen, a Colonel in the Army, will speak. Annual committee meeting reports should be turned in to Jane by the end of August. Having no other business, Kathy Natal made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Lyn Benavides. Meeting adjourned at 12:58 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Lynda Gallant
