2 Preamble Attention Sports Taekwondo Australia (STA) members who were born in either 1997, 1998 or 1999 as next year brings with it opportunities that could see you representing Australia (TeamAUS) at the following international events: 2014 WTF Qualification Tournament for Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games March 23-25, - New Taipei City, Chinese Taipei (max 3 male / 3 female athletes) 2014 (10 th ) WTF World Junior Taekwondo Championships March 26-29, - New Taipei City, Chinese Taipei (max 10 male / 10 female athletes) Youth Olympic Games August 16 28, (TKD 17-21) - Nanjing, China (max 1 male / 1 female athlete). It must be noted by all that the potential selection / nomination of athletes to the above events may seem a little complicated therefore please read all the information within this invitation to the World Junior Championships Selection Trials carefully. Further information will be provided as necessary. Important points for member s consideration: You are reminded of the approved participation policies and pathways in regards to representing Australia in 2013 and 2014 which was approved via the National Sports Plan in late Athletes Weight! Due to athlete growth all athletes / parents / guardians MUST understand and agree to that the weight division entered and won at the Selection Trials (November 2013) will remain the weight division athletes will be invited to contest at the World Junior Championships (March 2014), that s a three (3) to four (4) months of potential growth for athletes at this age, so ensure that you enter the appropriate weight division in November Those athletes invited to contest the WTF Qualification Tournament (March 2014) MUST also understand that if they qualify their division that they too must hold that weight if nominated to contest the 2014 Youth Olympic Games (August 2014) that s approximately another four (4) to five (5) months on top of the above outlined. STA - World Junior Championships Selection Trial (17th November 2013) At this stage selection to the 2014 World Junior Championships (Taipei) will be via a two-step process: i. Participation in the 2013 National Championships. ii. Win the Selection Trials to be hosted in NSW on 17 th November The STA Board may at its discretion invite athletes to contest this event who don t meet points i and ii above. 2

3 Player Eligibility Athletes wishing to enter must meet the following policy criteria: Born in the years 1997, 1998 or 1999; Be a registered member of a current 2013 Sports Taekwondo Australia member club; Participated in the 2013 National Championships; Hold / be eligible to hold a Kukkiwon Poom or Dan Certificate; Hold / be eligible to hold a 2013 / 2014 WTF GAL; Be an Australian citizen, and Hold / be eligible to hold an Australian passport. Detailed tournament information follows with entry via the online registration system only. Invitation to the Australian Team Winners from each weight division (see page 8) will be invited to join the Australian Team to contest the 2014 World Junior Championships. If 1 st place does not take up the offer then 2 nd place will be invited. WTF Qualifications Tournament (23 25 March 2014) The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) have provided STA with a quota and an opportunity to qualify a maximum of three (3) male and three (3) female divisions at the WTF Qualification Tournament (Chinese Taipei). However, only a maximum of one (1) male and one (1) female athlete division, if qualified, via performances at the WTF Qualification Tournament can be nominated to the AOC. Player Eligibility WTF criteria: Was born between 1 January 1997 and 31 December 1999 inclusive. Invitation to the Australian Team The appointed STA Selection Panel (SP) may not have an association with any potential athletes. The SP will nominate to the STA Board the divisions and the athletes to contest those divisions from the athletes who contested the 2013 World Junior Championships Selection Trials. Athletes nominated do not necessarily need to be the winners of specific divisions nominated. The entire policy will be presented to members once approved via the AOC. 3

4 World Junior Championships (26 29 March 2014) The winners of the 2013 World Junior Championships Selection Trials, a maximum of ten (10) male and ten (10) female athletes, will be invited to contest the 2014 World Junior Taekwondo Championships, New Taipei City, Chinese Taipei (see weight divisions on page 8) Youth Olympic Games (16 28 (Tkd 17-21) August 2014) The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has provided STA with a maximum quota see below letter received from the AOC dated 26 July 2013: Therefore the SP will nominate to the AOC to contest the 2014 Youth Olympic Games (Nanjing, China) a maximum of one (1) male and one (1) female athlete division, if qualified, via performances at the 2014 WTF Qualification Tournament (Chinese Taipei). Sports Taekwondo New South Wales (STNSW) Date: Sunday 17 th November 2013 Location: Whitlam Leisure Centre 90 Memorial Avenue Liverpool, NSW 2170 All Enquires: Michael, STA Administration. info@sta.asn.au Closing Date: Friday, 1 st November 2013 ATHLETES Athlete Entry: Fee: Seeding: Contest Duration: Via online registration only $ Via online registration only Athletes will be seeded based on their results at the National Championships, September All Divisions: 3 rounds x 2 minutes (1 minute between rounds) COACHES Coach Registration: Coach Dress Code: Via online registration only Coaches must wear appropriate, neat and tidy clothing. The Organising Committee rrecommend the following as a minimum: Club tracksuit; Club shirt with tracksuit pants / shorts. Taekwondo or sports shoes (no sandals/thongs). Coaches please note the following will not be permitted on the field of play. Hats / Caps; Mobile Phones; Two way radio transmitters. Please note that coaches are required to hold the WTF approved OTU Coach Accreditation. 5

6 Protective Equipment: Competitors must provide and wear WTF approved protective equipment (head protector, arm guards, gloves, groin guard, shin guards, Daedo sensor socks and a clear or white mouth guard). Note - any foot or hand taping must be signed by the tournament Doctor prior to presenting at marshalling. Accreditations & Weigh In: Global Martial Arts Centre Time: 3:00pm-5:00pm Date: Saturday 16 th November 2013 Location: 28/340 Hoxton Park Road, Prestons Sydney NSW Competitors must present their STA Membership Card at the Registration/Weigh In. As this is a junior competition, the minimum acceptable dress allowable during weigh-in for all athletes will be t-shirt and shorts/boxers and there will be a (0.5kg) allowance. Players not meeting their entered weight category and fail their weigh-in will not be permitted to compete. All coaches accreditation (ID cards) will be provided to registered coaches only at the prescribed Registration which will be conducted with the athlete Weigh In. Competition Draw: Competition Draw will be available at the weigh-in the night before the competition and also at the venue on the day of the competition. REFEREES All qualified referees will be appointed via the National referee Committee (NRC) under the rules of the NRC Policy of STA, all Referee enquiries must come via the NRC Chair Mr Rene Leveaux at rene.leveaux@uts.edu.au Tournament Rules: WTF Competition Rules (Daedo - Electronic Body Protectors) Single Elimination System. Division Numbers Rules Should any division have only two players (due to lack of entries, disqualification or pre competition day withdrawal) the format will be best of three matches. No Coach Rule One of our major problems causing considerable delays at tournaments is waiting for coaches. Clubs MUST ensure there they bring (or have access to) sufficient number of coaches. 6

7 To address this issue the following rules will apply: When a match is to start the Centre Referee calls the players. If a coach is not there then the match starts without the coach. We do not wait for the coach. (Technically at this point the CR could disqualify the player see WTF Article 10) The player loses his/her video challenge for that match (only). However, if they still have a video challenge, the player can use it the next match. The loss is only for the match where the coach is not there at the start of the match. If the coach arrives during the match, the coach can coach BUT the player still does not have the video challenge for the remainder of that match. Draft Competition Schedule: Gates Open Competition Starts 7:30 am 9:00 am Spectator Gate Entry Fees (payable at the gate): Adult $10.00 Child $5.00 (child under 6 years old free) Family $25.00 (includes 2 adults and 2 children) Liability: All participants in the tournament take part at their own risk. The organisers can under no circumstances be held responsible for any damages, injuries or loss to individuals or equipment.
