2 INDIAN EMBASSY REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION The 69 th Republic Day Celebration was held at the Embassy of India, Qatar on the 26 th of January 2018, Friday. The whole program was honored by the Presidential presence of the Ambassador of India to Qatar, MR. P Kumaran. Celebrations started by hoisting of the Indian flag followed by the National Anthem sung by student representatives from the Indian schools in Qatar. After the Presidential speech, a musical treat was delivered by the same students. Keith Lobo of Grade 5A and Devakrishnan Pradeepchandran of Grade 7B represented DMIS in the choir. Page-02

3 DMIS Weekly Gazette - Volume 12, Issue - 33 THIMUN 2018 The 7th Annual Thimun Qatar conference, the three day event opened at the Qatar National Convention Centre from 24th Jan, Wednesday to 26th Jan Friday, involving more than 1,300 Model United Nation (MUN) local, regional, and international students, was officially launched with a colourful flag procession. Seventeen students from Doha Modern Indian School grabbed this unique opportunity to attend one of the largest Model United Nations conducted in Gulf Region The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN 2018)! The conference aims to encourage young delegates from different countries and continents to discuss, negotiate, debate, and propose solutions to global issues. The theme of this year s conference was Gender Equality and Empowerment for Women and Girls, inspired by United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5. In line with the theme, the keynote speech was delivered by Trisha Shetty, founder and CEO of SheSays India, a youth-led NGO with a focus on youth and civil society engagement to promote gender equality. DMIS MUN Director Ms. Ursula Sabu Thomas was also specially recognised with a certificate and memento for being the Director of the Speedest School & first to complete the complex process of registration among the 1300 plus delegates registered for Thimun since past 2 years, at the MUN Directors meeting held on the last day of the Conference. The three-day international exposure to the DMIS delegates definitely made participants to engage in a simulation of the UN, designed to educate them about current world events, topics in international relations, and diplomacy. Apart from this the resolution was that he was the only one who was passed by the Security Council, on the topic of Human Trafficking which is considered for legalization; The resolution is sent to Vienna, to the UNODC Headquarters where it will be later reviewed this year. This gave him the motivation to continue to work hard and yield better results in the upcoming THIMUN Conferences. Finally, he said that this conference was a very fruitful one and he was looking forward for further such conferences. Page-06

FRENCH SPECIAL ASSEMBLY A Special French Assembly was conducted by the students of Grade 6 to 8 on 05 th February 2018 on the topic France and French Culture organized by the French teacher, Mr. Emad.

The most informative event of the assembly was the video on some of the important and fascinating places in France. The students of Grade 7 introduced some prominent French personalities.

7 FRENCH SPECIAL ASSEMBLY A Special French Assembly was conducted by the students of Grade 6 to 8 on 05 th February 2018 on the topic France and French Culture organized by the French teacher, Mr. Emad. The assembly commenced with the prayer followed by a song on the motto of France presented by a group of students from Grade 8. The most informative event of the assembly was the video on some of the important and fascinating places in France. The students of Grade 7 introduced some prominent French personalities. The students had the opportunity to learn about some of the interesting facts about France. A melodious French group song was presented by Grade 8. Finally, a speech on the importance of learning French and visiting France was delivered by Mr. Emad. The assembly was concluded with Qatar and Indian National Anthems. Page-07

9 GRADE 1-2 ANNUAL SPORTS DAY PRIZE DISTRIBUTION The best kids are going to become the best. But the best thing about it is that you're going to learn lessons in playing those sports about winning and losing and teamwork and teammates and arguments and everything else that are going to affect you positively for the rest of your life. Carl Lewis Doha Modern Indian School celebrated the Annual Sports Day -Prize Distribution Ceremony on Feb 7 th 2018 in the Assembly Hall. The winners of the different events were eager and excited to receive the prizes of achievement. Prizes for Flat Race, Ball Collection, Bursting the Balloon, Three Leg Race and Zig Zag Race were given to around 140 winners. All the students cheered the achievers and were showered with words of praises. The students understood that winning is not the goal of sports but participation is more important. The children were happy to see their friends being awarded with prizes for the talent and effort put in during the sports day. Being a good sportsman is accepting victory and failure and that was a lesson all KG children learned undoubtedly. Most young children love to measure, mix, pour and decorate. The Kindergarteners enjoyed the activity Cooking without fire on Feb 5th 2018.

It was a delight to see the little ones making their own salad like professional chefs. The kids of KG-2 brought bhel, onion, tomatoes, cucumber and cone.

It was a delight to see the little ones making their own salad like professional chefs. The kids of KG-2 brought bhel, onion, tomatoes, cucumber and cone. Their joy knew no bounds when their preparations were relished by their friends. They all enjoyed making lemonade. This activity helped the kids to work in groups and develop their confidence, self-reliance, creativity and value of sharing.
