2 The British are coming! September of 2010 marks two decades of British Invasion. Yup, that s right; 20 years have come and gone since that fateful afternoon at Ye Olde England Inne when Chris and Mike, while enjoying some fine English Ale, asked each other how about doing something British in Stowe with cars! The first year that the British Invasion was born at the Stowe Polo Grounds, we attracted over 200 British Cars from around New England and Canada. We have continued to grow the event every year since then. With every passing year, we have attracted enthusiasts from further and further away, as a larger number of enthusiasts discover that just driving to Stowe, Vermont is an adventure worthy of undertaking. The participation of our friends from North and East of the border in Canada has provided an international flair and attracted some amazing motorcars. Many of us, my self included, have purchased motorcars that were in the British Car Corral. Over time, we have witnessed some of these fine motorcars transformed into Class Winners at the British Classic or in our Concours. In twenty years, we have seen some of the youth from the early years, that have returned year after year, grow into adults and now they enter their own motorcars in the Invasion Weekend. We have all grown together in sharing our common interest in things British. The British Invaders have discovered Stowe, purchased real estate in Stowe, and some have even been married in Stowe, with the Invasion serving as catalyst for all of this and more. We have enjoyed sunshine, persevered hurricanes and mud, and relished in many stories about the pilgrimage North to Vermont each September and all that it has entailed. The dry years and the wet years are the things that memories are made of. Not many British Motorcar Shows continue for twenty years, but we have persevered and we have enjoyed developing this annual event into what has become the largest All British Lifestyle event in the Eastern United States and we all have reason to stand proud. This year, we anticipate our largest turnout ever and can envision upwards of 800 to 1,000 British motorcars. We appreciate the support of our sponsors, and the many volunteers, some of which travel great distances to help deliver this quality event. We appreciate the local resorts that provide rooms for several of our staff members and we appreciate all the invaders who bring an amazing collection of British motorcars for all to enjoy. The experience of driving to Stowe and back while enjoying the back roads and meeting fellow enthusiasts and friends is something that our registrants look forward to from year to year. Last year, we welcomed Dennis Gage of My Classic Car who interviewed attendees and prepared a show for viewing on the Speed Network. This year we had coverage from MSN.Com. Recognition of the British Invasion as a premier motorcar event continues to grow. On a personal note, we apologize for having to raise the registration by $5.00 this year. As you may know, 3-M Corporation purchased Meguiar s and the level of support we once enjoyed has diminished. In addition, we have continued to address rising costs of suppliers, service providers, and more. This year our featured marques are: Austin-Healey, Roll-Royce, and Bentley. Once again, the Village of Stowe will repeat the Friday evening Street Party that was first introduced in 2008 inclusive of a live Beatles Tribute Band and complete with food and beverage vendors. We invite you to come join the big party. We hope that you will help us celebrate our 20 th year and we wish you many miles of pleasant touring in your own British Classic.
