2 Thomasse - Larroque MD Rallye Sport Optimus AFRICA ECO RACE MOROCCO - MAURITANIA - SENEGAL MOTUL TEAMS PULL OFF FEATS The Africa Eco Race is an off-road rally recalling the African era of the Dakar, especially because of the countries it crosses: Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal, with the traditional arrival on 10 January on the banks of Lake Retba. Two teams partnered by Motul marked the 8th edition of the event, one in Bike and the other in Car. Russian rider Anastasiya Nifontova of team VEB Racing won the FIM Off-Road Rallies Women s World Cup in She honoured this title by achieving amazing performances throughout the rally. For instance, she bagged the absolute 2nd time in the third stage. I am perhaps not the only person to be impressed by this time... the champion stated joyfully in Assa. She then took 2nd place of the overall standings from Dakhla to Amodjar and was still 3rd when her clutch forced her to be content with 11th final place and the win in Women s category. Among Cars, team Thomasse / Larroque led its Optimus buggy built by MD Rallye Sport to 2nd place of the overall and to victory in two-wheeldrive vehicles. By participating under the colours of the Heart Surgery Patronage association, the Ecurie du Cœur (Heart Team) has funded operations on ten African children suffering from heart malformations. The team could also be pleased of the presence at the arrival of its eight Optimuses, four being among the Top ten.

The flying Toulousain has given its third win of the season to team Mazda France, partnered technically by Motul just like Ohwell which is keeping its chances of bagging a title thanks to Benjamin Rivière. When the track conditions were more or less identical for all the drivers, we could show our mettle, commented Jean-Philippe Dayraut at the end of the Italian weekend. Despite 60 kg of ballast, we managed to win race 1. We could no longer battle ahead on Saturday, with the rain, but crossed the arrival line first. This win shows that the Mazda3 is particularly competitive, even with ballast. Motul celebrated a 1-2 on Friday with Dayraut ahead of Rivière. The following day, the Citroën came 4th just ahead of the Mazda. Turning to motorcycles, Motul supports the very spectacular AMV Cup and the efforts of Team Trebad. Vivian Dabert first clinched his first pole ahead of his brother Sylvain. The latter did better in the races with two podiums and a strengthened leadership in the overall standings four rounds from the end. Of note, Randy de Puniet s presence in Andorra and Loris Baz presence at l Alpe d Huez are giving the championship the look and feel of a MotoGP!

4 Paulo Gonçalves Team HRC Honda CRF450 RALLY DAKAR RALLY STAGES 4 TO 8 BOLIVIA - ARGENTINA STAGES MANO A MANO AMONG THE BIKERS The first week of racing of the 2016 Dakar finished in Salta, Argentina, where the contenders enjoyed a day s rest after spending two days in Bolivia. The teams partnered technically by Motul are continuing to battle it out courageously in the face of many difficulties and fierce competition. The Hondas of team HRC are therefore starring entertainingly in the lead pack in the Bike category. The leader on Wednesday, Joan Barreda let his teammate, Paulo Gonçalves, take the lead the following day before unfortunately having to quit following a mechanical incident on Friday. Gonçalves kept the advantage till stage 8 (Salta Belen) during which he lost 5 17 to the KTM of Toby Price now leading the rally. There was an extremely emotional moment on Saturday between Uyuni and Salta when Gonçalves, in the lead of the event, stopped when he saw Matthias Walkner in a sorry state as he had just broken his thigh-bone. An ideally placed observer, he sees every day the true difficulty of the rally for the men and their machines. Here are a few excerpts from the notes jotted by our very special envoy in the past few days. The Dakar reached its highest point of 4,600 metres near Uyuni! Human beings find it difficult to stand such conditions and 400 people had to receive care against the effects of such an altitude. Engines suffer equally, because of the phenomenon VERSION of FRANÇAISE fuel dilution in engine oil. One of the advantages of a 100% synthetic lubricant like Motul 300V is its excellent resistance to dilution. Engines are thus protected against wear that could result from loss of viscosity arising from high fuel dilution. The Dakar also highlights the importance of lubricating the air filter. The quality of engine intake air is a field where you should not compromise. Insufficient filtering can lead to excessive wear and serious damage, especially in the presence of very fine particles that are hard to trap by the filtering element,

Our MacGyver used the steel cable in his survival kit to re-attach the road book. He then repaired the damaged connections before starting off again.
