It was the Spiders fifth straight win in a regular season contest against a nationally-ranked opponent. - The Spiders have won 17 of their past 23 CAA contests dating back to the 2013 season. - Ricmond enters today with a school record 10-game home unbeaten streak with the Spiders setting the record with a win over Towson, 31-28, on Oct. 1. Prior to the current streak, Richmond had won nine straight home games three different times in school history ( , , ). - The current 10-game home unbeaten is the second longest active streak in the country behind only Jacksonville State, who has won 11 straight home games. - Today s matchup is expected to be the 26th sellout in the six-plus year history of Robins Stadium. The Spiders are (.750) here at the stadium. During Coach Rocco s four-plus seasons, Richmond is 24-5 (.828) inside the friendly confines. - Richmond is (.676) in home conference games since joining the league in The Spiders final five opponents are a combined 15-8 this year, which is ranked in the top-15 in toughest remaining schedules. - This week marks the second straight week that Richmond has faced off against the CAA s top defense with Villanova leading the way at 15.2 points per game by the opposition. Prior to last week s Spiders win, Albany was leading the league, allowing just 15.0 ppg. - These two teams have had quite the battles in recent years with the past two meetings being decided by one point (21-20 VU in 2015, 10-9 UR in 2014). - The home team has won eight of the past nine meetings in this series, including Richmond having won four straight against the Wildcats in Richmond. - Since Richmond joined the league in 2007, the Spiders and Wildcats are two of just four programs to win 45 or more games over that span (UNH and JMU are the only other two). - Today s contest boasts two of the league s best offenses with the two teams both averaging over 30 points per game and posting over 400 total yards per game. #13/11 VILLANOVA (5-1, 3-0) WILDCATS Villanova: Andy Talley (Southern Connecticut, 67) Record at Villanova: (32nd season) Career Record: (37th season) Record vs. Richmond: 18-8 THE SERIES Overall Record: Villanova leads series Games at Richmond: Villanova leads 9-6 Games at Villanova: Villanova leads 13-5 Last Meeting: Villanova 21, Richmond 20 (11/14/15) Last Spider Win: 11/1/14 at Robins Stadium Richmond 10, Villanova 9 Current Streak: Villanova W1 Most Points Scored By Richmond: 38 (2x - last time, Oct. 8, 2005) Richmond 38, Villanova 20 Total Points Scored In Series: Richmond: 606 Villanova: 793 WHAT S INSIDE Roster/Pronunciation Guide...2 Depth Chart...3 Notes Head Coach Danny Rocco Stats Career Stats/Highs Records

It was the third 100-plus yard performance of the year by a Spiders freshmen and it was the first 3 TD game by a Spider freshman since For his outstanding performance, Thompson was named CAA Rookie of the Week, making the second time in the past three weeks a Spider won the accolade (Xavier Goodall on Sept. 26. Next Man Up While the victory was huge for the Spiders, it was costly with Richmond losing All-American safety and Preseason CAA Defensive Player of the Year David Jones with a fractured arm. In addition, starting RB Xavier Goodall was lost for the year with a torn ACL. Goodall is the second Spider RB to be lost for the year with Gordon Collins coming down in the week two matchup against Norfolk State. Poll Position With the Spiders #6 ranking this week, Richmond has now been ranked in the Top-25 poll for 32 consecutive weeks. Triple Digits Thompson s 100-yard plus performance followed back-to-back 100-yard performances from Goodall. The Spiders have now had a 100-yard rusher in 12 of the past 16 games dating back to last season. The past 14 times a Spiders running back has gotten 20 or more carries, they ve rushed for over 100 yards, a streak that dates back to the 2012 season. Trench Mafia Richmond s unsung heroes may be the offensive line, who have now blocked for three 100-plus yard rushers this year and have the top passing offense in the CAA and 15thbest in the country. Three of the guys up front have now started 20 or more consecutive games: Alex Light (20), Thomas Evans (21), Nick Vergos (27). Hey, They re Not Supposed To Be Here Richmond s defense has done an outstanding job getting into the opponent s backfield this fall, posting 39 tackles for a loss this year, already three better than all of last year when the Spiders had 36. That comes on the heels of Richmond s 10 tackles for a loss in the win at Albany, the most since the Spiders had 12 against JMU in Richmond s 6.5 tackles for a loss per game leads the CAA and ranks in the top-35 nationally. Sackin It Up Four of those tackles for a loss against Albany came from sacks, as the Spiders continued to pressure the opposing QB, adding to their season total for 13 sacks, just three fewer than Richmond had all of last year. The Spiders 2.17 sacks per game currently ranks second-best in the CAA, only to Delaware s Dynamic Duo Kyle Lauletta and the record-setter Brian Brown are quite a duo, both of whom will end their Richmond careers as one of the best to ever do it at their respective positions. Lauletta and Brown are the first pass-catch duo to reach 5,000 career passing yards and 3,000 career receiving yards while playing at the same time. Lauletta and Brown are one of only two sets of teammates to rank in the top-six nationally in passing and receving yards (only other is Eastern Washington s Gage Gubrud, Cooper Kupp and Kendrick Bourne). Lauletta ranks second with 1,753 yards and Brown ranks sixth with 615 yards this year. Gubrud leads the country with 2,351 yards with Kupp ranking second (712) and Bourne (616) sitting fifth.

Richmond now has had an interception in nine of the past 10 games dating back to last year. All About the Benjamins With his record-setting performance in the win over Colgate last month, Brian Brown not only became the program s all-time leading receiver, but he also extended his career record for 100- plus yard performances to 15, four more than any other receiver in school history. The only other two players in program history to have double-digit 100-plus yard performances are Leland Melvin ( ) and Walker Gillette ( ), who both had 11 during their time as a Spider. No Passing Through The Richmond defense has stifled its opposition s passing game this year, limiting its opponents to just yards per game, which is the second-best mark in the country. Prior to Albany, Richmond s opponents have passed for a TOTAL of 391 yards (97.8 ypg) over a span of four games. In the win over Colgate, the Spiders limited the Raiders to just five completions, the fewest allowed by a Spiders defense since Standing O Senior captain and linebacker Omar Howard currently leads the team with 41 tackles, 18 of which have come in the past two weeks. Howard was the first Spider to register double-digit tackles this season (10 tackles against Towson). Three of those 10 tackles were for a loss, which was a career-high in that category for the Midlothian, Va. native. He needs just 41 more tackles to join the top-10 all-time career tackles list. Red Zone Defense (17-19) 89% (12) (12-17) 71% (2) The Pittsburgh, Pa. native has had at least six tackles in five of Richmond s six games this season, including 30 over the past Penalties-Yards PG (11) (9) four weekends. He also chipped in his first career INT at Stony Brook. Punts-Average (11) (7) Partners in Crime All-CAA defensive honorees Omar Howard (LB) and Winston Craig (DL) have been pillars on the Richmond defense for over two years now, both of them have now made 30 consecutive starts for the Spiders, dating back to Oct. 4, 2014, a double OT win at Liberty. In those 29 games, the Spiders are Break Out Brendan Junior S Brendan Coniker has been one of the Spiders breakout players this season, ranking second on the team with 39 tackles, 19 of which are solo tackles. 6 Commonwealth Contributors Out of the 22 offensive TDs scored by the Spiders this season, 13 have come from players from the Commonwealth of Virginia (5 from Brown, 3 from Wilkins, 3 from Goodall, 1 from Collins/Bevels), 11 have come from players from the city of Richmond. Homegrown Products Brown is just one of a slew of homegrown products for the Spiders, who have 42 student-athletes that hail from the Commonwealth. Brown is also just one of the 22 Metro Richmond area student-athletes on Richmond s roster this fall. Locked and Loaded The Spiders returned 16 of 22 starters from last year s squad that posted 10 wins and made a trip to the FCS semifinals. Amongst that group returning for Richmond is two All-Americans in David Jones and Brian Brown, along with eight other players who earned All-CAA accolades last fall. Statistically, the Spiders returedn over 55-percent of their total scoring, over 65-percent of their total receiving yards and over 75-percent of their tackles from last fall. Front Runners Richmond enters the 2016 season as the preseason CAA favorites for the first time since 2009, the year after the Spiders 2008 National Championship run. Accolades Aplenty The Spiders boast the CAA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year in Kyle Lauletta and the CAA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in David Jones. It s just the second time in the past 15 seasons that one team has been named the concensus favorite and had both the preseason offensive and defensive players of the year. No Fly Zone Defensively, Richmond s 22 interceptions led the country last year, which marked the third time since 2008 that the Spiders have led the country in that category. Since that year, Richmond has led the CAA five times and ranked in the top-20 nationally six different times. Jones nine interceptions last fall set a new single-season program record and tied him for the highest total nationally. Three s Company For the third time in the past nine years, Richmond advanced to the FCS Semifinals in The Spiders earned the #7 national seed, earning a home playoff game for the second consecutive season. After defeating conference rival, William & Mary (48-13), Richmond traveled to second-seeded Illinois State and defeated the Redbirds (39-27) to advance to the Semifinals against eventual national champion, North Dakota State. Double Digit Ws Richmond s 10 victories in 2015 marked the fifth season in program history that the Spiders reached the 10-win plateau. It marked the third time since 2007 and first time since 2009 that Richmond had reached double-digits in victories. In the 116 seasons of Spider football prior to 2000, Richmond never won more than nine games. Since then, Richmond has won 10 or more games five times. Back-To-Back The back-to-back playoff appearances for the Spiders marked the first time that had occurred since 2008/2009. Only three times in the program s 132 seasons has the Spiders made back-to-back playoff appearances ( , , ). We re Going To Need Some More Room Since joining the league in 2007, no CAA football program has captured more conference titles than Richmond. The Spiders have taken home four trophies ( 07, 09, 12 and 15), two more than any other school during that span. THE LAST TIME... THE LAST TIME RICHMOND... 8 DANNY ROCCO HEAD COACH Fifth Season Wake Forest, 1984 Entering his fifth season at the helm of the Spiders, Danny Rocco has returned the program to national prominence with back-to-back FCS Playoff appearances, including reaching the semifinals in In the past decade, only four coaches at the FCS level have eight or more wins in seven different seasons, Rocco is one of them, with his teams both at Richmond and Liberty totaling 80 wins over the past 10 seasons, which is particularly impressive knowing that the two programs were a combined 4-18 in the seasons prior to Rocco s arrival. During his ten seasons as a head coach (four at Richmond, six at Liberty), he has been a National Coach of the Year Finalist five times, he has won six conference championships and four conference Coach of the Year honors. Even more impressive is that the six conference championships have come with five different starting quarterbacks leading the way for Rocco, all of whom earned all-conference accolades. Rocco has also been named The Touchdown Club of Richmond s NCAA Division I Commonwealth of Virginia Coach of the Year on two occasions, including last fall after the Spiders run to a national ranking of #3 and the FCS Semifinals. In January of 2016, Rocco was elected to the American Football Coaches Association Board of Trustees. In his ten seasons as a head coach, Rocco has coached 144 all-conference honorees and 28 student-athletes who garnered All-American honors, including four Spiders last fall in Brian Brown, Jacobi Green, David Jones and Nick Ritcher. Twelve different players under Rocco s tutelage have gone on to earn professional contracts, including two this past fall with Ritcher s signing with the Titans and Reggie Diggs signing with the Redskins. His teams have finished in the final FCS Top-25 poll in seven of the past eight seasons, including finishing #3 in the country after last year s run to the FCS semifinals. When Rocco arrived on campus, his impact was immediate, ushering in a five-win turnaround en route to an 8-3 season and a share of the CAA Championship in just his first season. It was just a glimpse of the success that would follow in the next three seasons. He has helped guide Richmond to back-to-back FCS playoff appearances for the first time since His 33 wins are the most in the first four years of any head coaching tenure and rank seventh all-time in total wins. During his time with the Spiders, Richmond has defeated 11 nationally-ranked opponents, including five straight wins over William & Mary and a victory over then-no.3 JMU during the 2015 season when ESPN s College GameDay was in Harrisonburg. At Liberty, Rocco quickly made the Flames into a Big South powerhouse, winning Big South Conference Championships in four of his six seasons in Lynchburg. His time at Liberty was one of the most successful stints in program history. Rocco arrived at Liberty following the program s 1-10 finish in 2005 and transformed the program as the architect of six consecutive winning seasons with the Flames. During his first season in 2006, Liberty won five more games (6-5) than the previous year, an improvement that tied for the best FCS turnaround in the nation that season. As a result of his immediate impact on the program, Rocco was named Big South Coach of the Year for the first time in school history, the first of three-straight years he would receive the honor. He would go on to be named a finalist for the national Eddie Robinson Award and Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award in each of the final three seasons in Lynchburg. Since the team s stunning turnaround in 2006, Rocco s teams continued to dominate in the Big South Conference and beyond. The Flames rolled to a overall record and an

9 impressive 26-5 mark in Big South play under Rocco, winning no fewer than seven games in each of his final five seasons. Nationally, Liberty finished the last four years ranked inside the Top 25 in both major FCS polls. Did You Know? Rocco s 33 wins is the highest total in the first four years of any coach in program history. During Rocco s six years at the helm in Lynchburg, the Flames captured their first-ever Big South Championship in the first of four consecutive conference titles. During this four-year span, Rocco had the third-highest winning percentage among FCS coaches nationally with his record (.756). Before becoming a head coach, Rocco spent 23 seasons at the BCS or NFL levels. Prior to his arrival at Liberty, Rocco spent the previous five seasons at Virginia. He was a part of four-consecutive bowl appearances for the Cavaliers, including back-to-back Continental Tire Bowl victories in 2002 and During his time in Charlottesville, UVA piled up 37 wins with Rocco serving as the associate head coach and linebackers coach under Al Groh. In addition to his coaching duties with the Cavaliers, he also served as the recruiting coordinator during his first two years in Charlottesville. His 2002 recruiting class was ranked in the top 10 in the nation by many of the major recruiting services, including a fifth-place ranking by ESPN. Prior to UVA, Rocco spent the 2000 season alongside Groh as an assistant linebacker and special teams coach with the New York Jets. Before joining the Jets, he was the linebackers coach at Maryland during the 1998 and 1999 campaigns. Prior to his time in College Park, Rocco spent four seasons at the University of Texas, where the Longhorns captured three straight conference titles, including winning the inaugural Big 12 Championship in 1996 and earning three consecutive trips to bowl games (Sun Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Fiesta Bowl). Before Tom Coughlin was a Super Bowl winning coach with the New York Giants, he was Rocco s mentor at Boston College for two seasons. As a defensive assistant, Rocco was a part of the revitalization of the Golden Eagles, returning the program to the national stage as participants in the 1992 Hall of Fame Bowl and the 1993 Carquest Bowl. Rocco also spent the 1987 season as the linebackers coach at Colorado under Bill McCartney and three seasons as the linebackers coach at Tulsa. The start of Rocco s coaching career came at his alma mater, Wake Forest, where he spent three seasons in total, two as a graduate assistant and one as the defensive line coach during the 1986 season. As a player, Rocco s collegiate career began at Penn State, where he earned two varsity letters and competed in the 1979 Liberty Bowl and the 1980 Fiesta Bowl before transferring to Wake Forest. While in Winston-Salem, he was a two-year starter and senior captain for Groh. He was no stranger to coaching after growing up in a football family. His father, Frank Rocco, Sr., served as an assistant coach at Penn State under Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno before joining the Liberty staff in Frank Rocco, Jr., also joined the Flames staff in 2000 as a wide receivers and quarterbacks coach and received a promotion to offensive coordinator prior to his departure in Frank, and brother, Dave, are both currently coaching at the high school level in Virginia. A native of Huntingdon, Pa., Rocco is married to the former Julie Mills. They are the parents of two children, David and Amy.
