SU was ahead of Cal State Fullerton with under five minutes to go in the opener, but the Titans escaped with a decision at the Redhawk Center. On Nov. 9, the Redhawks grabbed a late lead on Northern Arizona, but the Lumberjacks came away with a rally for a win at the Redhawk Center. Junior Kamira Sanders paces SU with 15.5 points per game through two contests. She was voted All-WAC Preseason after winning 2018 WAC Tournament MVP honors. Junior Joana Alves is off to a strong start, averaging 14 points and 9.5 rebounds per game this season. She has set new career highs in scoring in each of her first two outings. Seattle U was picked to take third in both the WAC Preseason Coaches and Media Poll. Last season, it tied for third in the WAC regular-season standings. Coach Suzy Barcomb begins her third season at SU. Last year, she took the Redhawks to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the program s first WAC Tournament title. Barcomb is one of two active NCAA coaches to take three different schools to the NCAA Tournament at the Division I, Division II, and Division III levels. SU lost three starters off last season s NCAA Tournament team, including All-WAC First Team performer Alexis Montgomery and All-WAC Second Team choice Jacinta Beckley. 4 SEATTLE UNIVERSITY Women s Basketball Game Notes Facebook: Seattle U Women s Basketball #GoSeattleU #TogetherWeSoar Game 3: Seattle U (0-2) vs. Arizona (1-1) Friday, November p.m. (2 p.m. Pacific) Stan Sheriff Center Head Coach Suzy Barcomb (Washington 86) - 3rd season Record at Seattle U: (3rd season) Career Record: (21 seasons) Suzy Barcomb will enter her third year as the Seattle U head women s basketball coach in She was named head coach on April 18, Barcomb guided the Redhawks to an historic season in , as SU won the first WAC Tournament title in program history. With the championship, Seattle U made its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Barcomb became the second active coach to take three different programs to the NCAA Tournament at Division I, Division II, and Division III. In her first season at SU, Barcomb oversaw an exciting turnaround as the Redhawks drastically outperformed expectations to finish second in the WAC regular season standings and advance to the WAC Championship game. Seattle U also made its third Division I postseason appearance, qualifying for the WNIT. After being chosen to place seventh in both WAC preseason polls, Barcomb instead guided SU to a 10-4 conference record, good for second place. The Redhawks were one of 10 Division I teams to increase their conference win total by at least seven games from SU won five road games in the WAC, including a win at UTRGV that featured the biggest comeback (16 points) by an SU team since Feb. 28, Alexis Montgomery earned All-WAC First Team honors, while Kamira Sanders became the first Redhawk to win a major WAC award, claiming Freshman of the Year. Senior Kaylee Best was an All-WAC Second Team pick, finishing her career as the Seattle U all-time leader in made three-pointers (195). She became the 16th player in program history to score 1,000 points, achieving the feat at Grand Canyon on Feb. 16. That same night, Best sank seven treys, setting an SU single-game record. Barcomb s versatile offense led the WAC in assists per game (14.5) in conference play. The team s defense also shined, holding WAC opponents to 28.9 percent shooting from three-point range, the stingiest mark in the league. Barcomb spent six seasons at the helm of the Cal State East Bay women s basketball program where she led the Pioneers to the university s first-ever conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in any sport. She surpassed career win No. 300 in February 2015 and led her team to the institution s first-ever postseason win, advancing to the conference championships that season. Prior to Cal State East Bay, Barcomb was at the helm of the University of Puget Sound for 12 seasons where she became the all-time winningest coach in program history.
