WAC Postseason Honors: Taelor Ross was named Second Team All-WAC after leading Seattle U in both scoring and rebounding through the regular season (11.6 ppg, 6.8 rpg). She set new career highs in scoring and rebounding during her junior campaign (21 pts on Dec. 4, 2014 vs. UW; 14 rbs on Feb. 5, 2015 at GCU) as well as in assists (4), steals (4), and blocks (6) and leads the WAC in blocked shots. Crystal Allen was named to the All-Newcomer team, shooting 82.2 percent from the free-throw line during her freshman campaign, good for second in the league through the regular season. After playing seven of eight home games during the month of December and six of eight in January, the Redhawks played on their home floor just twice in February. Scouting Utah Valley (11-18, 5-9 WAC): In a battle for the No. 4 seed, Seattle U earned the home team designation in Wednesday s first round contest with a win over Grand Canyon and a Utah Valley loss to Bakersfield on Saturday, Mar. 7. Prior to their loss to CSUB, the Wolverines swept the previous weekend with a overtime win over UMKC (Feb. 26) and a win over Chicago State (Feb. 28), both in Orem. Mariah Seals was named WAC Freshman of the Year, scoring in double digits in 10 of 14 WAC games and ranking fifth in the league in three-point field-goal percentage and three-point field goals made. Rhaiah Spooner-Knight joined the Redhawks Taelor Ross on the All-Conference Second Team, leading UVU in scoring through the regular season (13.3 ppg). The teams split their pair of meetings this year, each picking up a win on their home court (SU won on Jan. 10, UVU won on Feb. 7). Record Breaking Performances: Renee Dillard-Brown recorded her first career double-double on Senior Day vs. Grand Canyon on Mar. 7 (10 points, 10 rebounds). Dillard-Brown s 10 rebounds set a new career high while Jazmine Johnson also scored a career high 10 points. Kaylee Best tied her career high with nine rebounds. Crystal Allen Named WAC Player of the Week: Freshman Crystal Allen was named Western Athletic Conference Women s Basketball Player of the Week (Jan. 5-11) for her career high 21 points and eight rebounds in the Redhawks WAC opening win vs. Utah Valley on Jan. 10. Allen became the first freshman in Seattle U women s basketball history to win WAC Player of the Week. Wilma Afunugo Named GoSeattleU.com Featured Student-Athlete of the Week (Jan ): Afunugo earned the honor after leading the team in scoring, averaging 13.0 ppg in a pair of wins vs. Chicago State and Kansas City. She also dished out a career high four assists on Jan. 24 vs. UMKC. Famous Relatives: Junior transfer Cydnee Ceballos is the daughter of long-time NBA player Cedric Ceballos, who played most notably for the LA Lakers and Phoenix Suns and finished his career with the Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, and Miami Heat. Junior Taelor Ross is the sister of Terrence Ross, who currently plays for the NBA s Toronto Raptors. Women in Leadership Game on Dec. 4: In the team s annual game at KeyArena on Thursday, Dec. 4, Seattle U women s basketball honored five female leaders from the Seattle community including former President and CEO of the WNBA s Seattle Storm Karen Bryant, Seattle Chief of Police Kathleen O Toole, Seattle University Vice President for Student Development Michele Murray, Director of Seattle s Community Police Commission Fé Lopez, and Trustee Emeritus of Seattle University Anne Farrell. Seattle U Picked to Contend For WAC Title Preseason Polls: In a vote of the Western Athletic Conference women s basketball media, the Redhawks were picked to finish second in the WAC in while in the league s Coaches Poll, SU was chosen to finish third. In the media poll, Seattle U also received one first place vote.

Sophomore Wilma Afunugo, who led the league in field-goal percentage in as a freshman, was named Preseason Second Team All-Conference by the league s women s basketball media. College Sports Madness also named junior Taelor Ross to the Preseason Second Team All-Conference list. In With the New: Seattle U WBB welcomes six newcomers to the squad: Jazmine Johnson (Lakewood, Calif.), Jacinta Beckley (Wellington, N.Z.), Crystal Allen (Fort Worth, Texas), Delanie Parry (Beaverton, Ore.), Ashlyn Lewey (Spokane, Wash.), and Cydnee Ceballos (Phoenix, Ariz.). Parry will have to sit out the season due to NCAA transfer rules. Kristen O Neill Selected to WBCA Assistant Coaches Leadership Workshop: O Neill was one of only 40 coaches across the country chosen for an elite program sponsored by the Women s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The leadership workshop, taking place from Aug , Career Statistics (As of Mar. 9, 2015) 2014 in Parris Island, S.C. at the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot, provided coaches with innovative training and motivational techniques to aid in preparing their respective teams for the upcoming season and years ahead. Bonvicini Hires Vivian Frieson: Vivian Frieson joined the Seattle U women s basketball staff as an assistant coach in May Most recently, she served as video coordinator for Oregon women s basketball and prior to Oregon, she worked with the Gonzaga women s basketball program in several different capacities including as an interim assistant coach, administrative assistant, camp counselor, video coordinator, and organizer. A 2010 graduate of Gonzaga, she helped lead the Bulldogs to their inaugural Sweet Sixteen appearance the same year and was selected as the 31st pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft by the Tulsa Shock (first Zag in women s basketball history to be drafted by the WNBA). A Seattle native, she is also a graduate of Garfield High School. 8 8 Eliot Mar Joins Staff: Eliot Mar, who previously served as a team manager for two seasons, was hired as the team s Coordinator of Operations after earning his bachelor s of science in General Science with concentrations in chemistry and biology from Seattle University in Season Recap: Seattle U (16-16, 9-7 WAC) advanced to their second straight Western Athletic Conference tournament title game in as many years in the league Kacie Sowell was named a Top 30 candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, one of the most prestigious awards for senior collegiate studentathletes Sowell was named to the College Sports Madness High-Major Preseason All-American Third Team Sowell was named to the 2014 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team Sowell was named a WBCA Honorable Mention All-American Sowell was named to the DI-AAA ADA Scholar-Athlete Team for the second straight year Sowell was named to the WBCA All- Region 7 Team, one of just 52 DI honorees nationwide Sowell surpassed 1000 career rebounds at the 19:52 mark of the second half on Senior Day vs. Chicago State, becoming just the fourth player in program history (first in DI era) to pass the mark Ashley Ward became the 13th player in program history to pass the 1000 career points mark with a layup at the 9:55 mark of the first half in the Delta Dental Thanksgiving Tournament Championship vs. Cornell on Nov. 30, 2013 Sylvia Shephard became the 14th player in program history to pass 1000 career points with the first of two made free throws at the 1:29 mark of the first half at Kansas City on Jan. 4, 2014 Shephard grabbed her 200th career steal on Nov. 24 vs. Portland and was the WAC s active leader in steals Shephard passed the 500 career rebound mark on Dec. 28, 2013 at UC Santa Barbara Seattle U s field-goal percentages at Chicago State on Jan. 2, 2014 (65.3%) and vs. UTPA on Jan. 11, 2014 (63.3%) were the highest field-goal percentages posted as a team since Seattle U reclassified back to Division I starting in the season Head coach Joan Bonvicini was one of six nominees for the Seattle Sports Commission s Female Sports Star of the Year at the 79th Annual MTR Western Seattle Sports Star of the Year Awards on Jan. 22, 2014 Kacie Sowell was named First Team All-Conference while Sylvia Shephard was named Second Team All-Conference and to the All-Defensive Team Sowell and Ashley Ward were named to the WAC All-Tournament team, marking Sowell s second straight honor The Redhawks won their second straight Delta Dental Thanksgiving Tournament title with wins over Coastal Carolina, 84-53, on Nov. 29 and Cornell, 52-49, on Nov. 30. Taelor Ross was named Tournament MVP while Sylvia Shephard and Alexis Montgomery were named to the All- Tournament team. At the annual Team Banquet at the Space Needle, Kristin Stoffel received the Academic Leader award while Makenna Clark was named Most Improved. Sylvia Shephard was honored for leading the team in assists and received the Team Defensive Award. Ashley Ward was honored for leading the team in free-throw percentage and each of the three seniors received a commemorative basketball for passing 1000 career points. Kacie Sowell received an award as the team s leading scorer and rebounder and, as voted upon by her teammates, was named Team MVP Kristin Stoffel was named GoSeattleU.com Featured Student-Athlete of the Week (Jan. 6-12, 2014) for scoring seven points, going 3-for-3 from the field, and grabbing an equal number of rebounds, also recording an assist and a steal vs. NMSU on Jan. 9 Makenna Clark was named GoSeattleU.com Featured Student-Athlete of the Week (Feb , 2014) for recording 24 points over the weekend, tying her career high with 14 points vs. UVU on Feb. 13 Ashley Ward was named GoSeattleU.com Featured Student-Athlete of the Week (Mar , 2014) after setting a new season high in scoring (20 points) in the WAC quarterfinal win over UMKC on Mar. 12. In three games, Ward recorded 52 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists, and three steals, going 18-for-35 (51.4%) from the field as well as 14-for-19 (73.7%) from the free-throw line Former assistant coach Shaquala Williams joined the WNBA s Seattle Storm as an assistant coach Bonvicini Coach of the Year History: Bonvicini has now been named Coach of the Year in every conference she has been a part of, named WCAA Coach of the Year and Big West Coach of the Year three times (1981, 1984, 1986) at Long Beach State, and PCAA Coach of the Year in At Arizona, she was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year in 1998 and was named Independent Coach of the Year in Regionally, she has been honored as Region VIII Coach of the Year four times (1981, 1984, 1986, 1998) and, nationally, was named NCAA Division I Coach of the Year in 1981.

9 9 Head Coach Joan Bonvicini ( ) Sixth Season/Southern Connecticut State 75 Joan Bonvicini, one of the most successful coaches in women s collegiate basketball history and former coach at the University of Arizona and Long Beach State, was named head coach of the Seattle University women s basketball team on Tuesday, Aug. 4, Bonvicini s fi rst Seattle U recruiting class - Kacie Sowell, Ashley Ward, and Sylvia Shephard - completed their Redhawk career in as SU s top three Division I career scoring leaders. Sowell was named First Team All-Conference while Sylvia Shephard was named Second Team All-WAC and to the WAC All-Defensive Team. Ward and Sowell were named to the WAC All-Tournament Team. Bonvicini led the Redhawks to a third place fi nish in the WAC, making it to the Championship game of the WAC Tournament for the second straight year. In Bonvicini led the Redhawks to a regular season conference title in their fi rst season with full Division I status and their fi rst season in the Western Athletic Conference. The veteran head coach fi nished her fourth season at Seattle University behind an all-time (.647) record and is 11th on the NCAA Division I wins list for active Division I women s college basketball coaches. She became the 18th coach in NCAA Division I women s basketball history to reach the 600-win mark in February The Redhawk head coach also boasts win seasons over her historic coaching career. She was named WAC Coach of the Year for and was named to the Naismith Women s College Coach of the Year Top 30. Bonvicini led the Redhawks to one the most successful seasons in program history during the season, notching their fi rst 20-win season as an NCAA Division I program, as well as leading them to their fi rst NCAA Division I postseason appearance in school history. Seattle U made it to the semifi nals of the Women s Basketball Invitational before falling to the University of Northern Iowa, Prior to joining Seattle U, she coached 13 All-Americans and two former US Olympic Team members. While at Arizona, 54 student-athletes earned Pacifi c-10 accolades and 21 earned conference academic honors. At Arizona, Bonvicini accumulated a (.563) record over 17 seasons. She led the Wildcats to nine postseason appearances, including seven NCAA Tournament berths and the WNIT Championship in She was head coach at Arizona from 1991 to Bonvicini is in fi ve halls of fame: the Southern Connecticut State Hall of Fame (1989), the Connecticut Women s Basketball Hall of Fame (1994), the Long Beach State Athletic Hall of Fame (1996), the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame (2005), and the New England Basketball Hall of Fame (2007). She started her head coaching career at Long Beach State in 1979, posting a record (.821) in her 12 seasons with the 49ers. Long Beach State won 24 games or more every season with Bonvicini at the helm. The 49ers earned ten conference championships and ten straight berths in the NCAA Tournament, including Final Four appearances in 1987 and With the 49ers, she was named the 1981 NCAA Division I Coach of the Year. Following the season she was named the Region VIII and PCAA Coach of the Year. In 1984, she was named WCAA Coach of the Year and has also been honored by the city of Long Beach as their 1989 Citizen of the Year. The East Coast native spent two seasons as an assistant at Long Beach State before being promoted to head coach at age 25. Prior to joining the 49ers, she began her coaching career as an assistant at Cal Poly - Pomona in Southern California. A guard during her playing days, Bonvicini helped Southern Connecticut State earn third-and fourth-place fi nishes in the AIAW Championships. In 1975, she was named Region I-A MVP and an honorable mention All-American. She was a fi nalist for the 1976 U.S. Olympic Basketball Team.
