This week, the Redhawks head to Las Vegas for the Western Athletic Conference tournament and, as the No. 3 seed, are set to play the No. 6 seed, Kansas City (11-18, 7-9 WAC). The winner will advance to play the winner of No. 2 Bakersfield/No. 7 Utah Valley on Friday, Mar. 14 at 2:30 p.m. The women s championship game will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 15. WAC Announces Postseason Awards: For the second year in a row, Kacie Sowell was named First Team All-Conference and Sylvia Shephard was named Second Team All- Conference as well as to the All-Defensive Team. WAC SAAC to Hold Fan Fest in Vegas: Fans are invited to join other fans, family, and friends at the WAC Basketball Championships Fan Fest on Friday, Mar. 14 from 4-6 pm in the Orleans Arena Southside Parking Lot. The event, sponsored by the WAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is free and will include a live DJ, food, games, and fun. Sowell Passes 1000 Career Rebounds: At the 19:52 mark of the second half on Senior Day vs. Chicago State, Kacie Sowell became just the fourth player in program history (first in DI era) to pass 1000 career rebounds. Scouting Kansas City (11-18, 7-9 WAC): The WAC s scoring and rebounding leaders, Eilise O Connor and Kim Nezianya, were recently named Second Team All-WAC, averaging 21.4 ppg and 11.0 rpg, respectively. The Roos won both meetings during the regular season, including a dramatic win in OT on Mar. 6. The No. 6 seed coming into their first WAC tournament, UMKC lost four of their last five games to close the regular season. Clark Named GoSeattleU.com Featured Student-Athlete of the Week: After helping lead Seattle U to a 2-0 record in Western Athletic Conference competition versus Utah Valley and Bakersfield, Makenna Clark was named Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com for the week of Feb Over the weekend, Clark scored 24 points, including tying her career high with 14 vs. Utah Valley on Feb. 13. Playing the Field: Seattle U s field-goal percentages at Chicago State on Jan. 2 (65.3%) and vs. UTPA on Jan. 11 (63.3%) were the highest field-goal percentages posted as a team since Seattle U reclassified back to Division I starting in the season. Stoffel Named GoSeattleU.com Featured Student-Athlete of the Week: After helping lead Seattle U to a 2-0 record in Western Athletic Conference competition versus New Mexico State and University of Texas-Pan American, Kristin Stoffel was named Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com for the week of Jan Over the weekend, Stoffel scored seven points, going 3-for-3 from the field, and grabbed an equal number of rebounds, also recording an assist and a steal versus New Mexico State on Jan. 9. Play 4Kay Game: The Seattle U women s basketball team far surpassed their fundraising goal of $2,014 on Feb. 1 thanks to the generous donations of Redhawk fans so Coach Joan Bonvicini was pied in the face following the game by senior Kacie Sowell. Sports Star of the Year: Head coach Joan Bonvicini was one of six nominees for the Seattle Sports Commission s Female Sports Star of the Year at the 79th annual MTR Western Sports Star of the Year Awards on Jan. 22, Also nominated: award winner Krista Vansant (UW Volleyball), Tina Thompson (Seattle Storm), Marti Malloy (Six-time Judo National Champion), Micaela Castain (WSU Women s Soccer), Melissa Arnot (Mountaineer). Shephard Passes 1000 Career Points Mark: Sylvia Shephard became the 14th player in program history to pass the 1000 career point mark with her first of two made free throws at the 1:29 mark of the first half at Kansas City on Jan 4. Shephard joins fellow seniors Kacie Sowell and Ashley Ward in the elite club. Shephard Grabs 500th Rebound: Senior Sylvia Shephard passed the 500 career rebound mark on Dec. 28 at UC Santa Barbara, joining teammate Kacie Sowell who surpassed the mark in Sowell Named to 2014 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team : Kacie Sowell was one of 84 women s basketball studentathletes from all levels of college basketball named to the 2014 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team. The team honors student-athletes who represent the sport in areas of leadership and

Ward Passes 1000 Career Points Mark: Ashley Ward became the 13th player in program history to pass the 1000 career point mark with a layup at the 9:55 mark of the first half in the Delta Dental Thanksgiving Tournament Championship vs. Cornell on Nov. 30. Sylvia Shephard Grabs 200th Career Steal: Sylvia Shephard nabbed her 200th career steal on Nov. 24 vs. Portland. The WAC s active leader in steals, she ranks 23rd among all Division I active career leaders with 221 career steals (as of Jan. 14). Redhawks Win Second Straight Thanksgiving Tournament: Seattle U won their second straight Delta Dental Thanksgiving Tournament title with wins over Coastal Carolina, 84-53, on Nov. 29 and Cornell, 52-49, on Nov. 30. Taelor Ross was named Tournament MVP while Sylvia Shephard and Alexis Montgomery were also named to the All-Tournament team. Redhawks Chosen as Preseason WAC Favorites: The Western Athletic Conference media and coaches both chose Seattle U as the preseason favorite to win the Western Athletic Conference title in Sylvia Shephard and Kacie Sowell were named Preseason First Team All-WAC in both polls, while Ashley Ward was named Preseason Second-Team All-WAC in the coaches poll. Sowell was also named Preseason Player of the Year in both polls. College Sports Madness also named Kacie Sowell WAC Preseason Player of the Year, as well as naming Joan Bonvicini WAC Preseason Coach of the Year and Kaylee Best WAC Preseason Freshman of the Year. Sowell named College Sports Madness High-Major All-American: Kacie Sowell was named to the College Sports Madness High-Major Preseason All-American Third Team. 8 8 the country chosen as a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, including one of three from the Western Athletic Conference (also: Alyssa Charlston, Idaho and Eilise O Connor, Kansas City). To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be an NCAA Division I senior and excel in four particular areas - community, classroom, character, and competition. The Senior CLASS Award stands for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School and is one of the most prestigious awards in college athletics. From the list of 30 candidates, a committee of national media will select 10 finalists midway through the season. Foreign Tour in Costa Rica: Seattle U took a foreign tour to Costa Rica from August 19-26, 2013 where they played three contests, including one versus the Costa Rican National Team, which they won, During the trip, the team and travel party also volunteered at a local school and did team building activities like white water rafting and ziplining. The New WAC: Seattle U, Idaho, and New Mexico State return to the Western Athletic Conference and welcome six newcomers to the league including Kansas City, Chicago State, Texas Pan- American, Bakersfield, Utah Valley, and Grand Canyon. In With the New: Seattle U WBB welcomes six newcomers to the squad including Wilma Afunugo (Plano, Texas), Kaylee Best (Seattle, Wash.), Tatiana Howard (Gardena, Calif.), Claire Metoyer (Desoto, Texas), Alexis Montgomery (Beaverton, Ore.), and Masha Shtikel (Shoreline, Wash.) Bonvicini Hires Derek Liebert: Derek Liebert was hired as an assistant coach in September 2013, bringing experience working with the season as well as working with the Seattle Storm most recently as Basketball Operations Manager. Liebert received his Masters of Education in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from Washington in June 2013 and is a 2012 graduate of Xavier University, where he served as program manager for the Xavier women s basketball team Season Recap: Seattle U (20-11, 15-3 WAC in ) won the WAC Regular Season title and entered the WAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed The Redhawks made their second straight postseason appearance, facing St. Mary s in the WNIT, recording their second straight 20-win season, the first back-to-back 20-win seasons at any level since and Joan Bonvicini was named WAC Coach of the Year, Kacie Sowell was named WAC Player of the Year, and Sylvia Shephard was named WAC Defensive Player of the Year Kacie Sowell, Maggie McCarthy, Ashley Ward, and Makenna Clark earned WAC All-Academic honors Sowell was named to the 10-member Division I-AAA Athletics Director s Association Scholar-Athlete Team Kacie Sowell and Sylvia Shephard were named to the WAC All-Tournament team as voted upon by media at the WAC Tournament Sowell was named First Team All-WAC, Shephard was named Second Team All- WAC, and Shephard and Daidra Brown were named to the All-Defensive Team Bonvicini was named to the Top 30 list of finalists for the Naismith College Women s Coach of the Year Joan Bonvicini recorded her 1000th career game coached vs. Washington at KeyArena on Nov. 14, 2012 The program graduated three players: Brenda Adhiambo, Daidra Brown, and Maggie McCarthy Kacie Sowell passed the 500 career rebounds mark on Dec. 1 vs. UC Irvine with 32 seconds left in regulation Sowell, with her layup at the 10:12 mark in the second half of the WAC Tournament quarterfinals vs. New Mexico State on Mar. 13, became only the 12th player in program history to pass the 1000 career point mark Prior to losing at UTSA on Jan. 24, 2013, the Redhawks were one of just 34 teams in NCAA DI at the time to remain undefeated in their respective conferences. Their prior seven-game winning streak (Dec. 29-Jan. 19) tied for the 12th longest active streak in NCAA DI women s basketball at the time Kacie Sowell received two WAC Player of the Week nods (Nov. 5-11, Dec. 31- Jan. 6) Sylvia Shephard named College Sports Madness WAC Player of the Week twice (Nov , Feb. 4-10) and Kacie Sowell received the honor once (Feb ) Seattle U won the Washington Dental Service Thanksgiving Tournament as Sylvia Shephard was named the Tournament MVP and Kacie Sowell was named to the All-Tournament team In June 2012, prior to the season, Kristen O Neill was promoted to Associate Head Coach of the program At the annual team banquet on Mar. 18 at the Space Needle, awards were given out for top rebounder (Kacie Sowell), team captains, best free-throw percentage (Ashley Ward), and most assists (Sylvia). Several votes, as voted upon by the team, were also given including Most Inspirational (strength coach Wes Philips), Defensive Player of the Year (Daidra Brown), Most Improved (Brenda Adhiambo), and MVP (Kacie Sowell) Bonvicini Coach of the Year History: Bonvicini has now been named Coach of the Year in every conference she has been a part of, named WCAA Coach of the Year and Big West Coach of the Year three times (1981, 1984, 1986) at Long Beach State, and PCAA Coach of the Year in At Arizona, she was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year in 1998 and was named Independent Coach of the Year in Regionally, she has been honored as Region VIII Coach of the Year four times (1981, 1984, 1986, 1998) and, nationally, was named NCAA Division I Coach of the Year in 1981.

9 9 head coach joan bonvicini ( ) Fifth season/southern connecticut state 75 Joan Bonvicini, one of the most successful coaches in women s collegiate basketball history and former coach at the University of Arizona and Long Beach State, was named head coach of the Seattle University women s basketball team on Tuesday, Aug. 4, In Bonvicini led the Redhawks to a regular season conference title in their first season with full Division I status and their first season in the Western Athletic Conference. The veteran head coach finished her fourth season at Seattle University behind an all-time (.647) record and is 11th on the NCAA Division I all-time wins list for women s college basketball. She became the 18th coach in NCAA Division I women s basketball history to reach the 600-win mark in February The Redhawk head coach also boasts win seasons over her historic coaching career. She was named WAC Coach of the Year for and was named to the Naismith Women s College Coach of the Year Top 30. Bonvicini led the Redhawks to one the most successful seasons in program history during the season, notching their first 20- win season as an NCAA Division I program, as well as leading them to their first NCAA Division I postseason appearance in school history. Seattle U made it to the semifinals of the Women s Basketball Invitational before falling to the University of Northern Iowa, Prior to joining Seattle U, she coached 13 All-Americans and two former US Olympic Team members. While at Arizona, 54 studentathletes earned Pacific-10 accolades and 21 earned conference academic honors. At Arizona, Bonvicini accumulated a (.563) record over 17 seasons. She led the Wildcats to nine postseason appearances, including seven NCAA Tournament berths and the WNIT Championship in She was head coach at Arizona from 1991 to Bonvicini is in five halls of fame: the Southern Connecticut State Hall of Fame (1989), the Connecticut Women s Basketball Hall of Fame (1994), the Long Beach State Athletic Hall of Fame (1996), the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame (2005), and the New England Basketball Hall of Fame (2007). She started her head coaching career at Long Beach State in 1979, posting a record (.821) in her 12 seasons with the 49ers. Long Beach State won 24 games or more every season with Bonvicini at the helm. The 49ers earned ten conference championships and ten straight berths in the NCAA Tournament, including Final Four appearances in 1987 and With the 49ers, she was named the 1981 NCAA Division I Coach of the Year. Following the season she was named the Region VIII and PCAA Coach of the Year. In 1984, she was named WCAA Coach of the Year and has also been honored by the city of Long Beach as their 1989 Citizen of the Year. The East Coast native spent two seasons as an assistant at Long Beach State before being promoted to head coach at age 25. Prior to joining the 49ers, she began her coaching career as an assistant at Cal Poly - Pomona in Southern California. A guard during her playing days, Bonvicini helped Southern Connecticut State earn third-and fourth-place finishes in the AIAW Championships. In 1975, she was named Region I-A MVP and an honorable mention All-American. She was a finalist for the 1976 U.S. Olympic Basketball Team.
