CHAIr S CHAT Welcome everyone to the Dragons' Den, particularly our growing set of supporters and to our visiting schools, but specifically our opponents for this week, Team Newcastle, University.

The NBL Division One has a whole lot of athletic talent in its ranks and both Dragons and Team Newcastle have their share of highly skilled basketball players.

Congratulations to Andreas Lycoudis (find of the season in my book) and Jermayne Laing.

5 CHAIr S CHAT Welcome everyone to the Dragons' Den, particularly our growing set of supporters and to our visiting schools, but specifically our opponents for this week, Team Newcastle, University. I hope we have a 'cracking game for you tonight. The NBL Division One has a whole lot of athletic talent in its ranks and both Dragons and Team Newcastle have their share of highly skilled basketball players. It was great to see last week that two of our players were recognised for their contribution to basketball by being named as 'Players of the Week' on BritWatch. Congratulations to Andreas Lycoudis (find of the season in my book) and Jermayne Laing. I'm sure there are a number of our other players in the squad will have the same accolade bestowed upon them in future weeks. Back to tonight's game; I'm sure Team Newcastle will be worthy opponents and I note that they have recently had two narrow wins over Hemel Storm and Manchester Magic. We had a win on the road at Leicester; it might not have been pretty, but a win is a win. I am sure that Coach Mellor will be expecting a much improved performance from the team at home in the Dragons' Den. Hope its a great game for the fans to watch and results in another Dragons' victory. 6 COACH MELLOR Good evening everyone and welcome to tonight's game against our visitors from the North East, Team Newcastle University. Last week we travelled to Leicester Warriors and, even though we didn't match the level of performance from the previous week against Hemel Storm, it was still a good win against a team that's always tricky to play against especially at their place. Drexler Clark has decided to return home back to the USA (for personal reasons) but I've got every confidence in the guys we have and that we will still be very competitive the rest of the season. We had an easy win versus Newcastle on the opening day of the season, in the National Trophy, but they had several key players missing in September and they are a much better team now, as their recent results show and we are expecting a much sterner test tonight. Enjoy the game. Coach Mellor TODAY S OPPONENTS Tonight, we entertain Team Newcastle University, the sole NBL Division One representative from the North East these days following the loss of both Tees Valley Mohawks, some years ago, and more recently, Team Northumbria, over the summer. Team Newcastle are based at the city University, and as such are a student team, but compete very effectively at Division One level. After a fairly poor start to their campaign, including a National Trophy hammering (51-88) at the hands of the Dragons, at their own venue; they are now on the up, winning three from their last four games in the league, and will certainly prove to be a different proposition tonight. Players like Corey Doran, their US import, will be starting to gel with players like Nikolas Urli and Mark Elderkin (will he EVER graduate? ) making them a stronger unit than they were a couple of months ago. Note that the location has changed, from previous seasons, due to the recent closure of the Westleigh Hotel. There are ample car parking spaces available in the University car park (Longside Lane, BD7 1SA). Turn onto Shearbridge Road and then take a right onto Longside Lane.
