3 BY THE NUMBERS 9 Nine of Tech's 14 players are underclassmen. That number includes an enormous seven-player sophomore class, and Tech's newest additions, freshmen 4 Hannah Garrett and Taylor Lamb. TEAM NOTES ABOUT ARKANSAS Arkansas has played 28 seasons as a member of the heralded Southeastern Conference, where it has compiled a record. It has never won an SEC regularseason or tournament championship. Arkansas has made the NCAA Tournament 11 times in its history, most recently in Head coach Mike Neighbors came across his fair share of speed bumps in his first season at the helm of his alma mater, leading the Razorbacks to a record in and a 3-13 mark in a vaunted year for the SEC, which boasted seven teams in the final Associated Press Top 25, and four in the top 15. The Hogs returned 10 of 11 letterwinners and 80.3 percent of their scoring to start the campaign, including doubledigit point-getters Malica Monk, (15.9 ppg) who led the offensive output, and Jailyn Mason (11.0 ppg). The lone loss was graduate student Devin Cosper, who was the team's second leading scorer (14.0 ppg) and contributed 5.6 rebounds per game. Neighbors has his team off to a 5-3 start to begin his second season, with wins over Northwestern State, UT-Arlington, Tennessee State, Wisconsin, and Oral Roberts, and losses to No. 22 Arizona State, Pittsburgh and Iowa State. Two of those victories, UT-Arlington and Wisconsin, came by just one point. First-year roster player Chelsea Dungee currently leads the Hogs with 17.6 points per game over their first eight contests. Dungee sat out all of last year due to NCAA transfer regulations after importing from Oklahoma. The redshirt sophomore guard's scoring average is currently fifth-best in the SEC, as she paces her club from the free throw line (78.9 percent, 9th in SEC), and is second on the team in overall FG percentage (.424) and three-point FG percentage (.375). Junior Alexis Tolefree (13.1 ppg) joins Monk (14.0 ppg) as the other two Razorbacks averaging double figures in scoring. Tolefree also has a team-high 13 steals on the year and has drained the most threes (19, 7th in SEC), while Monk leads the team in assists (20) as well. Kiara Williams and Taylah Thomas lead the Hogs' rebounding effort with 8.0 and 6.6 per game, respectively. Williams' mark is No. 8 in the league. SERIES NOTES Tech has met up with Arkansas two times in its program history, and has split the two TENNESSEE TECH WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Number of returning Golden Eagle players who averaged more than 27 minutes per game last season decisions. The Golden Eagles were victorious in the first meeting on Nov. 27, 1981, when they downed the Hogs in the season-opener, 96-75, as part of the Tennessee Tech Tipoff Tournament. Tech would wind up with a overall record and 10-2 OVC ledger in the season, on its way to the program's firstever NCAA Tournament berth. Arkansas would get its revenge in the second clash, defeating TTU on Dec. 20, 2013 in Bud Walton Arena. UA's McKenzie Adams and Jessica Jackson led the offense that day with 18 points apiece, while Kelsey Brooks came off the bench with 13 points. Jackson also pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double. T'Keyah Williams was Tech's leading scorer in the game with 12 points. TECH PICKED 7th IN OVC Tech was predicted to finish seventh in the Ohio Valley Conference race for the campaign. ROSTER BREAKDOWN The Tech roster features 14 players representing four states and two countries. Nine Golden Eagle players hail from the state of Tennessee, while Kentucky boasts two, and Florida and Texas one apiece. There is also one international player on the Golden Eagle squad, Peace Okeke, who hails from Nigeria. Tech has three seniors, two juniors, seven sophomores and two true freshmen. Six Golden Eagles stand 6-feet or taller, while the other eight measure in at 5-foot- 11 or shorter. This year's Tech squad features two new members, forward Taylor Lamb and guard Hannah Garrett. Both are true freshmen. HOME GROWN Kim Rosamond and her staff have done an excellent job of recruiting the state of Tennessee over their first three classes, as there are now nine players on the roster who hail from the Volunteer State. After securing Akia Harris's (Chattanooga) commitment in the 2016 class, Rosamond brought in five players from Tennessee - Kesha Brady (Smyrna), Abby Buckner (Murfreesboro), Riley Masters (Cookeville) and junior-college transfers Kentoria Alexander (Tullahoma) and Lacy Cantrell (Knoxville) - start the season. Both members of the newest batch of Golden Eagles, Hannah Garrett (Jamestown) and Taylor Lamb (Greeneville), are native Tennesseans. Brittany Cooper (Clarkrange), the only four- Percentage of points scored by players returning for the season (1,276 of 1,746 points). NON-CONF. 4 TECH VS. THE STATE OF ARKANSAS The Golden Eagles have won two of their six meetings with schools from the state of Arkansas. After defeating both Arkansas and Arkansas State in the first meeting of each series, Tech has since dropped the last four against the pair of institutions from the The Natural State, including the most recent matchup, a Nov. 14, 2015 encounter with Arkansas State. OPPONENT FIRST RECORD TOTAL Arkansas State Arkansas TECH VS. THE SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE The Golden Eagles have a storied history against teams from the Southeastern Conference, having squared off with all of them at least once, except for Texas A&M. Tech has compiled a ledger in 123 all-time matchups, and totes its best record against Vanderbilt (10-8,.556). Arkansas is tied with Mississippi State for the secondfewest all-time meetings against Tech among league teams (2). OPPONENT FIRST RECORD TOTAL Tennessee Ole Miss Vanderbilt Kentucky Georgia Alabama Auburn South Carolina Florida Missouri Arkansas Mississippi State LSU year Division I athlete on the team, also calls Tennessee home. CAN'T STOP CANTRELL Senior forward Lacy Cantrell, a second-year junior-college transfer from Roane State CC, has kicked off the season with three straight breakout performances. She began by going for a career-high 19 points off the bench in the opener against Cumberland, and then recorded her first career double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot at Xavier. Cantrell made her first career start and played a career-high 27 minutes against Middle Tennessee, and once again scored in double figures with 14 points. Cantrell was an impactful part of Tech's win over Charleston Southern, as she potted 12 points and matched a career high by securing 10 rebounds for her second career double-double. With a combined 30 makes on 44 field goal attempts on the year, Cantrell ranks just outside the top five nationally, and owns the best FG percentage in the OVC (.683). BROCK BOMBER Sophomore Jordan Brock was not afraid to let it fly from three-point range last season, as she hoisted 190 tries from behind the arc, the most in a single campaign since Blair Bowens's 212 in Brock connected on 68 of those attempts, becoming the first Golden Eagle to make more than 60 in a season since Bowens, while recording the fourth-best all-time mark in program history. It also ranked fourth among OVC sharpshooters, and topped the list for league freshman. The Harlan, Ky. native recorded the 119th 30-point game in Tennessee Tech history last season when she poured in 30 on Jan. 25, 2018 against Southeast Missouri. Brock's long range specialty was on display against Cumberland, as she went 4-for-9 from downtown for a.444 clip. Brock buried three trifectas against Middle Tennessee, including two in the second half that helped fend off the Blue Raiders' bid for a comeback victory. Brock caught fire in the second half against Western Carolina, draining five triples in a row starting late in the third quarter. Her effort blew open a game that had gotten close, and allowed Tech to cruise to a 19-point victory. Brock's season-high 19 points, six rebounds and four assists against Charleston Southern was the best all-around game of her career, and was a key factor in her CSU Buccaneer Classic All-Tournament Team selection. Brock buried a key triple - her only field goal - with one minute left in the game against Wichita State, which proved to be the dagger in the hearts of the Shockers. A GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION After an eye-opening freshman season got her named to the conference's all-newcomer team at the end of last season, Mackenzie Coleman found herself on the OVC All-Preseason Team to start Coleman took the third-highest scoring average on the team last year (10.9), and second among returning players. She is also TTU's best returning rebounder with 5.6 per game. Big Mac was deadly from the floor, posting a.484 field goal percentage that was No. 5 on the OVC list. Perhaps the best part of Coleman's skill TECH S ALL-TIME OVERTIME CONTESTS (since ) The Golden Eagles have taken 43 games past regulation since , accumulating a mark (shown below). Of those overtime contests, six have gone more than one extra period, with one of those requiring three additional segments. Tech is 1-4 in overtime games under the leadership of Kim Rosamond. 5 IN IT TILL THE END Last season's win/loss ledger in OVC play did not tell the entire story of Tennessee Tech's competiveness in the conference. ALL-PURPOSE AKIA From virtually the time she stepped on campus two years ago, junior point guard Akia Harris has been stuffing the statsheet for Kim Rosamond's team. Harris's crowning achievement in her Tech career so far came on Jan. 7, 2017 when she became the fifth player in program history to record a triple-double. Just 17 games into her career, Harris lit up Murray State for 19 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. Harris did a little bit of everything in the opener against Cumberland, pouring in 11 points, dishing out six assists, and collecting six steals. It was the sixth time in her career that she accumulated at least 10 points and six assists in a game. She followed that up with 12 points and five assists against Xavier. Her 11.5 points per game is currently the 15th-best scoring average in the league, and her 11 assists to four turnovers gives her the second-best GOLDEN EAGLE ROSTER BREAKDOWN ratio league-wide (2.8). Kim Rosamond's Swiss Army Knife of a point guard was the player of the game against Middle, posting season-highs with 15 points and eight rebounds. With her team trailing for the first time in the game midway through the fourth quarter, Harris rose to the occasion, scoring seven points in a row to put the Golden Eagles for good. Harris collected a season-best eight assists in Monday night's win over Western Carolina. The junior guard picked up 12 points and against Old Dominion, and added five rebounds. Through six games this season, Harris already has four with at least 10 points, four with at least four rebounds and three with at least five assists. The Smyrna, Tenn. native took a huge step in jumpstarting her comeback season against Xavier, scoring a team-high 14 points on 9-of-10 free throw shooting, and also led Tech's defensive pressure with three steals. She exploded for 18 points against WCU, and was aided by a single-game careerhigh three three-pointers. That output was good enough to co-lead the Golden Eagle offense with fellow sophomore Jordan Brock. Brady followed up her performance against Western Carolina with 16 points against Charleston Southern and 15 vs. Old Dominion in the Buccaneer Classic. Overall, she averaged 16.3 points over three contests during the week, went a sparkling 20-of-21 from the free throw line (95.2 percent). JOINING THE RANKS TTU welcomes two new Golden Eagles to the fold this season in guard Hannah Garrett and forward Taylor Lamb. Garrett, a Clarkrange high school product, was a two-time TSSAA Division I Class A all-state recipient during her prep career, as well as a two-time First Team all-conference selection. The 6-foot Garrett averaged 8.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, two assists and 1.7 blocks per game over the course of her prep career. Lamb also comes highly-decorated, with her most notable title being as a three-time finalist for Ms. Basketball of Tennessee. Even more impressive, Lamb's South Greene High School was reclassifed prior to her senior season, and while her level of competition was increased from Class A to Class AA, she still managed to keep herself in consideration for the highest individual honor in high school girls' basketball. Lamb clipped at 15.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists during her four years at South Greene. Garrett and Lamb met up on the biggest stage in the season, as South Greene took down Clarkrange, 66-57, to win the Class A state title. Lamb was Tech's best player at Wichita State, exploding for a career-high 17 points off the bench on a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor. She also matched another career high with five rebounds.
