The Rams used a - 3, second quarter run to create the gap in this one. The Spiders actually bested the home team in the third quarter but it proved to be just too little too late as the two sides mostly traded the rest of the way. SURGING TOLSON Lauren Tolson returned for a fifth and final season in 6 after being granted an extra year of eligibility following an injury that knocked her out after just eight games last season. She averaged 3.4 points per game before she went out. She struggled to find her way back in the early going this season but since returning to the starting lineup seven games ago she has averaged.8 points including a double-double ( pts, reb) opposite Morgan State and back-to-back 7-point outings to begin A- play. The team finished fourth in scoring defense (59.6 ppg) last season and have held conference opponents to just 58.8 points per game and 35.5 percent shooting this year. PARSON DOES IT ALL Last season Micaela Parson took on the role of secondary scorer to Janelle Hubbard after Lauren Tolson went down with an injury. She jumped her scoring average from 3. ppg as a freshman to.9 ppg as a sophomore as a result. This season with the return of Tolson and the emergence of Ragan Wiseman and Jaide Hinds-Clarke, Parson has dropped her scoring average to.9 ppg but raised her rebounding and assists to 5.4 and 3. per game, respectively. That all came to a head on Sunday opposite St. Bonaventure when Parson nearly collected the program s first triple-double with 8 pts, 9 reb, 8 ast. HINDS-CLARKE X ATLANTIC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK In back-to-back weeks, Richmond freshman Jaide Hinds-Clarke was named the Atlantic Rookie of the Week following three outstanding performances that resulted in Spider wins. She scored points and pulled down seven rebounds at Furman to earn the award the first time. The freshman averaged points and 3.5 rebounds the following week, including a -point, four-rebound effort to open A- play vs. SJU. CLIMBING THE LADDER Senior guard Janelle Hubbard will end her career as one of the greatest scorers in program history. After a brief lull towards the end of the non-conference schedule, Hubbard has averaged.5 points per game in conference play moving her into 7th on the all-time list and just points shy of the No. 6 spot. SHOOT WELL AND PLAY DEFENSE As a team the Spiders shot 43.6 percent opposite SJU and held the Hawks to just 8.8 percent. Richmond shot over 4 percent in three of the four quarters including a 66.7 mark in the second that helped to break the game wide open. It was the fourth time this season that the Spiders have bested the 4 percent plateau, all of which have been wins on the scoreboard. It was also the third time this season in which the defense has held the opponent south of 3 percent. All of those efforts resulted in wins as well. FRESHMEN SURGE INTO STARTING LINEUP Ragan Wiseman made the first start of her career at Hampton and scored nine points on 3-4 shooting from long range. Jaide Hinds-Clarke made it a freshman duo making its debut in the starting lineup; she scored four points and grabbed three rebounds. This pair combines to average.8 points per game and 7.3 rebounds and had been part of a historically good Spider bench that averaged 34.6 points per game from Nov. 5-Dec.. KYLIE MURPHREE Kylie Murphree currently ranks fifth in the A- assist/turnover ratio (64/38,.7), seventh in steals (.8), and eighth in assists per game (3.8). All of those numbers are currently career-best marks. FIRE UP THE BENCH Richmond scored 39 points off the bench in both games down in Boca Raton, 36 opposite Liberty, 3 against Cleveland State and 9 opposite 3

ALL-CONFERENCE AWARDS Since joining the Atlantic before the - campaign the Spiders have had 3 individuals chosen to the postseason All- Conference awards lists, not including eight All-Defensive team choices and six All-Rookie team selections. Janelle Hubbard has already been chosen to the preseason second team. FOUR FRESHMEN The Spiders have added size in recruiting this season. Jaide Hinds- Clarke, Amy Duggan and Ragan Wiseman all clock in north of six-feet tall with Dee Hatcher coming in at 5-8 to match the size of Janelle Hubbard and Micaela Parson. Hinds-Clarke is a classic post player with size and strength while Duggan and Wiseman will stretch the floor. Hatcher carries many similarities to Parson as a slashing guard with a good combination of speed and strength. MICHAEL SHAFER BECOMES WINNINGEST COACH On Saturday, Jan. 4, 4; Richmond head coach Michael Shafer became the most winningest coach in Richmond women s basketball history as he notched his 67th-career victory as a Spider over the UMass Minutewomen.
