9 Head Coach Teverster Anderson enters his sixth year at Jackson State. He is the men s basketball program s sixth head coach since As a head coach, Anderson has compiled an impressive overall record. In five seasons at JSU, he has a record. The Tigers have shown steady improvement during Anderson s tenure and captured the 2007 Southwestern Athletic Conference Men s Basketball Tournament Championship, the programs first since Under Anderson s guidance the Tigers received the SWACs automatic bid to the 2007 NCAA Men s Basketball Tournament and put up a good fight against the eventual back-to-back champion Florida Gators. Anderson came to Jackson State from Murray State University where he spent five seasons at the helm of the Racers basketball program. During his head coaching career at Murray State he accrued an overall record of with two Ohio Valley Conference titles and two appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The Canton, Mississippi native graduated from Canton High School before attending Arkansas AM&N University. He received a bachelor s degree in pre-medicine from Arkansas AM&N in He earned a master of science in biological science from North Carolina A&T State University in Anderson began his coaching career at Canton High School, where he served as head basketball coach and biology teacher. At Canton, from , he had an overall record of He later had two stints in the Georgia Public School system before signing on with Auburn University in While at Auburn, the program enjoyed a Sweet Sixteen finish in 1985 and an Elite Eight finish in He spent four seasons under Auburn head coach Sonny Smith before moving on to the University of Georgia. From Anderson served as associate head coach and chief recruiter for the Bulldogs. During that time, Georgia earned six postseason tournament appearances, including three NCAA berths. In 1995 he was named associate head basketball coach at Murray State. Again he served as the chief recruiter on a team that slowly became one of the more recognizable mid-major programs in the nation. The Racers earned two NCAA berths and one trip to the NIT postseason tournament. After three seasons as associate head coach, Anderson was named head coach of the Murray State basketball program in He averaged 20 wins in five seasons at Murray State including two Ohio Valley regular season titles, two OVC championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Along with his collegiate coaching career, Anderson also has international basketball coaching experience. He has coached in the Pan-American Games three different times, the Tournament of Americas three times, and led the Virgin Islands men s basketball team to two Caribbean Championships. Anderson has coached the Virgin Islands National team for the past 23 years. Coach Anderson was named Ohio Valley Coach of the Year as he reached 100 victories faster than any other head coach in Murray State history. He has coached sixteen players who went on to play in the National Basketball Association, including Charles Barkley, Chuck Person and Raja Bell. He coached two high school All- Americans, Rowland Garrett and Rickey Brown, both of whom went on to have outstanding careers in professional basketball. Anderson is married to the former Joyce Lamb. They have nine children: Tanja, Fernandez, Tevester, Jr., Timothy, Fredric, Adonica, Tiffany, Stephan and Paul. 10 Eric Strothers Assoc. Head Coach Eric Strothers enters his fifteenth season of coaching at his alma mater. Strothers is a former All-SWAC performer. He came back to Jackson State after playing two years of professional basketball overseas. Since that time, he has been a mainstay with the Tigers' basketball program. As a coach, Strothers' duties include recruiting, scouting, managing the student-athlete academic program, supervising study hall, directing the off-season conditioning program and various administrative duties with the team. His primary coaching responsibilities are with the post players. The Vicksburg, Mississippi native graduated from Vicksburg High School and came to Jackson State as a basketball hopeful. Strothers was an All-County football player in high school, but had less than one year of basketball experience as he saw action in only two games his senior year. He was a walk-on player when then-assistant coach Chris Giles (former Tigers associate head coach) discovered the package of tremendous potential Strothers possessed. By the time Strothers left Jackson State, he was a first-team All-SWAC forward who led Jackson State to a regular season conference title; a SWAC tournament title and a chance to play in the NCAA tournament play-in game against Coastal Carolina. He was voted the team's Most Valuable Player his junior and senior seasons and garnered a SWAC Playerof-the-Week and Black Entertainment Television (BET) Player-of-the-Week honors during his senior campaign. His 17.4 points per game average during his senior year put him in the Jackson State 1,000 point Club as he finished his collegiate career with 1,251 total points. Strothers graduated from Jackson State with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice. He was drafted in the fourth round by the Sioux Falls franchise of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) and played in the exhibition season for the South Dakota team before deciding to play overseas. Strothers started in the Holland Pro League for a season before playing in Hong Kong where he led his team to second place in division play, the team's best finish. Strothers has a master's degree in Physical Education from Jackson State. He has two children, Eric II and Erica.
11 Anthony Boone Assistant Coach Anthony Boone enters his sixth season with Jackson State. A former starter at Ole Miss, Boone went to Murray State after spending one season on Rod Barnes' staff at his alma mater. Boone returned to Ole Miss to pursue his master's degree in mathematics, while volunteering his time to the basketball program as a graduate administrative aide. Boone graduated from Ole Miss in 1999 with a degree in chemical engineering. He also enjoyed a stellar playing career. From he played in 94 games, including 79 starts despite undergoing four knee surgeries. He posted career averages of 7.2 points and 4.8 rebounds. During his college career, Boone was a member of Rebel squads that posted a record, won consecutive SEC Western Division titles and advanced to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments. As a freshman, Boone was named to the Knoxville News - Sentinel SEC All-Freshman Team. In ceremonies before the 1998 season finale, Boone had his number 41 retired, becoming only the second student-athlete in Ole Miss history to be so honored. He joined former Rebel quarterback Archie Manning with that distinction. A two-time selection to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Boone was also named to the Academic All-America District VI Team in 1996 and was a member of the Rebel 3.0 Club. Following his senior season, Boone was one of seven finalists for the Chip Hilton Award, which is given annually by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to a player who demonstrates personal character on and off the court. Off the court, Boone served as president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and M-Club. He was also inducted into the Ole Miss Hall Of Fame, which is the highest honor an Ole Miss student-athlete can achieve. A native of West Helena, Arkansas, and Boone was an all-state athlete and class salutatorian at Central High School. Boone is married to the former Jennifer Curry and they have a daughter named Rebecca. Wright Busching Graduate Assistant Wright Busching is entering his first year as a member of the Jackson State coaching staff. The Jackson, Miss. native is a recent graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he received a bachelor's degree in history with minors in business and English. Busching has worked at Wake Forest University, Millsaps College Basketball Camp and Belhaven College Basketball Camp along with local Jackson high school camps.

16 JSU Game Recaps JSU Tigers fall at LSU The Jackson State men's basketball team lost its season opener to the Louisiana State Tigers at the Pete Maravich Center on the LSU campus Saturday afternoon. Three JSU Tigers scored in double figures. Darrion Griffin scored a team high 16 points on 4-11 shooting from the floor and 8-9 from the free throw line. Griffin also pulled down seven rebounds and dished out three assists. Jeremy Caldwell and Grant Maxey each added 13 points. Maxey also grabbed seven rebounds. Three LSU Tigers also scored in double digits. Bo Spencer scored a game high 21 points on 7-12 shooting. Tasmin Mitchell and Chris Johnson each scored 17 points. The score was tied in the first half. In the opening half JSU shot 48 percent from the field and 84 percent from the free throw line, while LSU connected at a 42 percent rate from the field and 82 percent from the line. Tigers fall to Texas A&M Corpus Christi in third round of South Padre Island Invitational Despite a game high 22 points and nine rebound effort from Grant Maxey the Tigers fell to the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders in the third round of the South Padre Island Invitational Friday afternoon. The Islanders (2-3) defeated Jackson State Maxey went 6-16 from the field and a perfect 8-8 from the line.darrion Griffin was the only other Tiger to score in double figures with 21 points. Jackson State beats North Carolina Central 69-49, gets first win of season The Jackson State men's basketball team got its first win of the season in the final round of the South Padre Island Invitational, by beating the North Carolina Central Eagles Saturday afternoon. Four Tigers scored in double figures as JSU improved to a 1-5 overall record. Jackson State falls to Stephen F. Austin The Jackson State men's basketball team cut a 20 point Stephen F. Austin lead down to four points in the second half, but could not overcome the deficit to pick up its second win of the season. The Lumberjacks built a lead at halftime. In the second half the Tigers made a furious comeback, outscoring the Jacks 19-2 over the first nine minutes of the second half. JSU would eventually trim the lead down to four points, but could not overtake SFA.
