U-M coach John Beilein has amassed 757 total wins in 39 seasons on the sidelines. With one more victory he will earn his 500th in Division I play. He adds 206 wins with the Wolverines which is just four away from the program's all-time mark in Ann Arbor (Johnny Orr, 209). After joining U-M legends Gary Grant and Jalen Rose in U-M's 1000P-400R-400A club, Derrick Walton Jr. created his own -- the 1000P-500R-400A club -- after grabbing five rebounds against Wisconsin (Feb. 16) last week. He is now the only Wolverine to reach those marks and the 13th Big Ten player to do so as well. Michigan continues to lead the country with the fewest turnovers per game (9.4). U-M has had 10 or fewer turnovers in 20 games. U-M is shooting a record pace 77.8% from the free throw line -- over a percentage point better than the squad's record of 76.2%. This season's percentage leads the Big Ten and puts U-M seventh in the nation. THE SERIES WITH RUTGERS Tonight's meeting is the only matchup of the regular season and marks just the 10th all-time game. The Wolverines are a perfect 9-0 against the Scarlet Knights. U-M coach John Beilein has a 7-2 record against Rutgers. In the only meeting last season, Duncan Robinson scored 18 points, Derrick Walton Jr. added 14 and Zak Irvin had 12 rebounds and eight assists as U-M defeated Rutgers, 68-57, on Jan. 27, 2016, in Crisler Center. In the last game in Piscataway, U-M used a late 11-0 run to win, 54-50, on Jan. 20, In the first game played without Caris LeVert, who was sidelined the rest of the season after undergoing foot surgery, Derrick Walton Jr. led with 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists. One of the standout series meetings was in the 2004 NIT championship game at Madison Square Garden in New York City. In a back-and forth-game, the Wolverines pulled out a decision to claim the postseason title. Current staff member Chris Hunter was a member of that U-M title team. A second key contest was an win in the 1976 NCAA Final Four (March 27), which helped the Wolverines make their second national title appearance. A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE SCARLET KNIGHTS Corey Sanders scored 17 points and Rutgers had a lead most of the way, but a Northwestern run in the final two minutes gave the Wildcats a win over the Scarlet Knights on Saturday night (Feb. 18). Nigel Johnson added 16 points while C.J. Gettys had 10 points and nine rebounds in the loss. Rutgers has three players scoring in double figures, led by Sanders' 13.0 points per game. Deshawn Freeman and Johnson both are averaging 11.0 points a contest. Rutgers is 9-5 at the RAC this season and have a Big Ten win over Nebraska (65-64, Jan. 21) at home. The Scarlet Knights also defeated Penn State in State College, 70-68, on Feb. 4. Steve Pikiell is in his first season at Rutgers after leading Stony Brook to six postseason appearance in a seven-year span. WHAT'S AHEAD? This upcoming weekend, U-M will celebrate Senior Day hosting #14/14 Purdue on Saturday, Feb. 25th. The game tips at 4 p.m. at Crisler Center and will be televised on ESPN2. Michigan closes the regular season on the road at Northwestern (Wednesday, March 1; BTN) and then at Nebraska (Sunday, March 5; BTN). website/mgoblue.com twitter/@umichbball facebook/michiganbasketball instagram/@umichbball U-M Basketball Communications Contact: Tom Wywrot, Associate Director twywrot@umich.edu Contact: (734)

8 MICHIGAN BASKETBALL Season Game Notes MICHIGAN EARLY SIGNEES John Beilein announced the three early signings: 6-1 guard Eli Brooks (Spring Grove, Pa.) 6-8 forward Isaiah Livers (Kalamazoo, Mich.) 6-4 guard Jordan Poole (Milwaukee, Wis.) ELI BROOKS Brooks plays at Spring Grove under coach, and father, James Brooks. Last season, he averaged 24.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists while knocking down 79 three-pointers. Brooks guided Spring Grove to 25-4 record, the school's first York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) championship title since 1971, a third-place finish in District 3 playoff and advanced to the school's first-ever appearance in the PIAA Class AAAA playoff. For his efforts, he was a 2016 All-PIAA Class AAAA second team selection. Beilein on Brooks... "Eli has a great feel for the game. He is a coach's son, so he loves playing and learning about the game. He is a tireless worker in and out of the gym. He plays with a quiet toughness and will be able to play multiple guard positions for us. He can shoot the ball, but his great floor vision allows him to make plays off the ball screen, by scoring or by getting assists." ISAIAH LIVERS In three seasons at Kalamazoo Central, under coach Ramsey Nichols, Livers has helped the Giants to a record, three straight Class A District 1 championships, two straight Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference (SMAC) East titles and two appearances in the Class A Regional 1 championship Last season, he averaged 14.0 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks while earning all-state honors from the Detroit Free Press (second team), Detroit News (third team) and Associated Press (honorable mention). He added Kalamazoo Gazette Dream Team first team honors as well as a spot on the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) Academic All-State team. Beilein on Livers... "Isaiah has a versatility to his game, which we feel will only help us. He can shoot from the perimeter, is very skilled and is improving his rebounding and passing skills. He is agile enough to be a combo forward who can guard or score in the post and on the perimeter. He comes from a great family, and we love his outstanding attitude, passion for the game and love for the University of Michigan." JORDAN POOLE After spending three seasons at Milwaukee King High School under legendary coach Jim Gosz, Poole will finish his prep career at La Lumiere School under coach Shane Heirman. While with King, he helped the Kings to a three-year record and back-to-back Milwaukee City Basketball championships and WIAA Regional championships in 2014 and In 2014, King won the WIAA sectional title and advanced to the WIAA Division 1 semifinal. Last season, he averaged 18.2 points per game and was named a to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division 1 All-State team as well as an Associated Press All-State honorable mention. Beilein on Poole... "Jordan is one of those versatile players who could have an immediate impact with our program. He is an elite-level passer who finds ways to score while continuing to work on other aspects of his game. He is a confident person on and away from the court. His outgoing personality helps people naturally gravitate to him. Playing at La Lumiere for this final season gives Jordan a chance to play with and against some of the top players in the country. Jordan is a true combo guard who we sense will be a fixture in our backcourt for years to come." THE... NATIONAL... 10 MICHIGAN BASKETBALL Season Game Notes IRVIN ALSO RACKING UP THE MILESTONES With four (4) regular-season games remaining, Zak Irvin (131, 10th) has a chance for U-M's all-time top 3. Former teammate Jordan Morgan (142; ) holds the alltime mark while Stu Douglass (136; ) is second. With 131 career games play, Irvin has logged plenty of minutes. In fact, his 3,822 (29.2 mpg) total is 10th all-time. He needs 79 minutes played to pass Stu Douglass ( ) for ninth on the list. Irvin is one of two 1,000 point scorers on the roster. He has 1,458 (21st), while Derrick Walton Jr. has 1,270 (31st). Technically, U-M has three 1,000 point scorers if you combined Duncan Robinson's DI and DIII numbers. Currently, he has 1,173 career points points with U-M (DI) and 548 at Williams College (DIII, ). Irvin moved into U-M's top 5 all-time for three-point field goals made. He currently has 222 total putting him fourth. He needs 12 to move into third -- held by former Wolverine Daniel Horton ( ; 233). Irvin has 636 career long range attempts and is fourth all-time. He needs 16 more to reach third, held by Daniel Horton (651; ). Irvin is the seventh Wolverine to reach 500-plus attempts and the ninth Wolverine to have 400-plus attempts. SPRECHEN SIE BUCKETS? Moritz Wagner, who averages 12.3 points per game, leads U-M and is fifth in the Big Ten with a 57.9 field goal percentage (116-for-201). Broken down Wagner is 87-for-129 on two-point field goals (67.4%) and 34-for-80 on three-point field goals (42.5%) -- which is second among the Wolverine players. Wagner has scored in double figures in 19 games, including 18 in his last 22 games. He scored a career-high 23 points against Nebraska (Jan. 14), going 6-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-6 from three-point range. Wagner recorded his first career double-double in the win at Indiana (Feb. 12), scoring 11 points and pulling down a career-high 10 rebounds. In 30 games last season, Moe Wagner shot 37-for-61 (60.7%) from the floor, averaged 2.9 points and had one game in double figures vs. Charlotte (Nov. 26) at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. U-M SEEING DOUBLE-DOUBLE Moritz Wagner recorded Michigan's latest double-double, the first of his Michigan career. Wagner had 11 points and set a career-high with 10 rebounds in the win at Indiana (Feb. 12). Derrick Walton Jr. posted the last two double-doubles for the Wolverines before the Indiana game with performances of 25 points and 10 rebounds against Ohio State (Feb. 4) and his 13 points and 11 rebounds against Illinois (Jan. 21). All 11 rebounds came on the defensive end. Overall, Walton has the most of any Wolverine with seven. D.J. Wilson leads U-M this season with his first three career double-doubles point and 12 rebound night vs. Marquette (Nov. 17) at MSG; 15 points and 11 rebounds against Kennesaw State (Dec. 3) and a career-best 28 points and 14 rebounds at Iowa (Jan. 1). Five players on the U-M roster have double-doubles. Walton leads the team with seven, followed by Zak Irvin's four double-doubles. Duncan Robinson has six in his career as five came from Williams College (DIII). He posted his first U-M double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) in last season's First Four win over Tulsa. Last season, Walton recorded a triple-double, going for 10 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists against Youngstown State (Dec. 19, 2015). There have been five triple-doubles in U-M history -- four of which have come under U-M coach John Beilein. > All-Time Triple-Doubles at Michigan > Gary Grant (24P, 10R, 10A), North Carolina (3/14/87), NCAA Tournament > Manny Harris (18P, 13R, 10A), Northern Michigan (11/14/09) > Darius Morris (12P, 10R, 11A), Iowa (1/30/11) > Caris LeVert (13P, 10R, 10A), Northern Kentucky (12/15/15) > Derrick Walton Jr. (10P, 11R, 13A), Youngstown State (12/19/15) DJ'S PLAYING AN "A-MAIZING" TUNE D.J. Wilson is producing 10.4 points and a team-best 5.6 rebounds in what most consider his first full season. Prior to this season Wilson played in 31 total games. Last season, he played in limited minutes in 26 games. As a freshman, he was granted a medical redshirt after a left knee injury eventually held him to just five games. Recording a total of 24 total rebounds during his first two seasons, Wilson has more than sextupled that with team-best 150 (5.6 rpg) -- including four games of 10-plus boards. Overall Wilson has produced eight games with seven-plus rebounds this season with those four 10-plus: > 14 against IUPUI (Nov. 13) > 14 at Iowa (Jan. 1) > 12 vs. Marquette (Nov. 17) at MSG > 11 against Kennesaw State (Dec. 3) Wilson leads U-M with three double-doubles: > vs. Marquette (11 points, 12 rebounds, Nov. 17) at MSG > Kennesaw State (15 points, 11 rebounds; Dec. 3) > at Iowa (28 points, 14 rebounds; Jan. 1) In addition to his rebounding, Wilson has become a threat from long range, shooting 39.1 percent (27-for-69). He had a career-best 4-for-8 performance at Iowa (Jan. 1). Overall for the season, he is third on U-M shooting 55.3 percent from the field. Wilson is third on the team, averaging 12.1 points in Big Ten contests. This included road games at Iowa (28 points) and Illinois (19 points) and a home rematch with the Fighting Illini (19 points). In a stellar opening to the Big Ten regular season following an opening bye, D.J. Wilson had an exceptional game at Iowa (Jan. 1) with a career-high 28 points, the most by a Wolverine this season. He had career single-game highs for field goals made (11) and attempted (18) as well as three-pointers made (4) and attempted (8). Adding to his offensive output, he tied a career best with 14 rebounds, helping him to his third double-double of the season. However, what set his performance apart were his career-best six assists while playing in 44 of a possible 45 minutes in the OT thriller against the Hawkeyes. THE TWO-HEADED SIXTH MAN Mark Donnal and Duncan Robinson -- both starters last season -- have become U-M's two-headed sixth-men. Both have played in all 27 games. After starting the first two games of the season, Robinson has shifted to come off the bench giving way to D.J. Wilson. Averaging 19.9 minutes per game, he is averaging 8.3 points per game, shooting 40.7 percent from long range. Robinson, who has a seasonhigh 17 points against UMES (Dec. 17), has 10 double-figure games this season, including a 13-point performance in a win over Indiana (Jan. 26). After making just 10 three-pointers of his first seven games, Robinson has 38 over the last 20 to give him 48 on the season (second most on Wolverines). Coming off the bench the entire season, Donnal is playing 13.8 minutes averaging 4.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and shooting 64.6 percent from the field. He has had four double-digit games with a season-best 15 points vs. Marquette (Nov. 17) at MSG. He is also 46.2 percent from long range this season (6-for-13). Donnal has had three-or-more rebounds in 11 games off the bench, with a seasonbest six in the opener against Howard (Nov. 11) and vs. Maryland (Jan. 7). HERE'S TO YOU MR. ROBINSON With all the research done to date and continued to be sought after, Duncan Robinson appears to be the first DIII player to transfer to DI and receive a major scholarship. There have been several DIII transfers to U-M, but none have been awarded a full scholarship. Coming in with a reputation as a long-range shooter, Robinson did not disappoint last season leading the Wolverines with 95 total three-point field goals. This season he is second on U-M with 48 total. Robinson's 143 is just 27 away from cracking U-M's all-time top 10. MR. ROBINSON COMES TO U-M'S NEIGHBORHOOD, VIA STAN VAN GUNDY? So the question asked is how did Michigan actually get Duncan Robinson? The answer is simple -- Detroit Pistons coach and team president Stan Van Gundy. Yes, it seems interesting and the reason why is next. When Van Gundy took over the Pistons as head coach and President of Basketball Operations he hired Marist head coach Jeff Bower as his general manager. With Bower leaving Marist, Williams College head coach Mike Maker -- a former John Beilein assistant at West Virginia -- was hired to replace Bower, beating out Patrick Beilein for the job. With Maker leaving for Marist, he called John Beilein and told him to take a look at Robinson, who nearly led Williams to the DIII national title. The next they say is history as Beilein watched tape and didn't want Robinson as a walk-on, but rather offered him a scholarship. HOME COOKING U-M carries an record at Crisler Center over its last five-plus seasons -- including a 13-4 record last season. Over the five-plus year stretch, U-M has gone 42-6 in non-conference games and in Big Ten games. Over the last five years, Michigan has sold out Crisler Center 46 games. 11 Game Day Notebook MICHIGAN BASKETBALL Game Notes THE SURPRISE OF A LIFETIME In a moment that will last a lifetime, U-M senior walk-on Andrew Dakich was awarded a full scholarship for the winter semester in a unique way. Set up by U-M coach John Beilein, two U-M DPS officers interrupted a team film session with a fake call out of Dakich, telling him he was under investigation for his conduct on campus. After a brief pause, the officer instructed Dakich he needed to be escorted to the U-M compliance office to sign paperwork for the scholarship in which his teammates and coaches erupted with cheers as Dakich's head fell into his lap realizing he was just pranked. A video of the announcement was posted on U-M's social channels and went viral. After a few days, Dakich was interviewed by ESPN's SportsCenter, where again he was faked out as he was asked what his parents thought and his dad, Dan Dakich (an ESPN college basketball analyst), came out on the set to ask his son questions about the incident. BEILEIN AND HIS WALK-ONS U-M coach John Beilein continues to appreciate the work and dedication of his walkons. Below are just a few of the great stories over the past three seasons. Two seasons ago, Beilein dressed Fred Wright-Jones -- who had been a manager/ practice player in the home finale. He had been cleared to practice after Spike Albrecht was lost for the season. This season, Beilein made Wright-Jones an official walk-on and he has played in 12 games. A native of Detroit, Mich., who played high school basketball at East English Village under Juan Rickman. He is a first generation college student as well as a recipient of the Gates Millennium Scholarship, which covers his education through to a Ph.D. program. Last season ( ), Beilein gave walk-on Sean Lonergan a full scholarship for the second semester. This season, Beilein did it again surprising Andrew Dakich in a viral prank with a full ride second-semester scholarship. Three seasons ago, Beilein surprised manager/practice players Jon Rubenstein (#13) and Ryan Kapustka (#15) dressing them for the regular season finale against Rutgers (March 7, 2015). With the game in hand against the Scarlet Knights, both played in the final minutes. Rubenstein was fouled but missed the front end of the 1-and-1. A LITTLE MICHIGAN KNOWLEDGE Michigan finished overall with a 10-8 mark in Big Ten play. The Wolverines earned the No. 8 seed in the Big Ten Tournament advancing to the semifinal and moved on to the NCAA Tournament playing in the First Four and First Round. With a regular season win over Northwestern (Feb. 24), Michigan reached the 20-win plateau for the 27th time in U-M history and for the sixth time in U-M coach John Beilein's nine-year tenure. For the fourth time in the last five seasons, U-M posted 10- plus wins in conference play. Michigan had two players reach 1,000 points during the season -- Caris LeVert against Northern Kentucky (Dec. 15) and Zak Irvin at Ohio State (Feb. 16). Irvin currently has 1,115 (41st) career points, while LeVert finished his career with 1,070 total (44th). There are 50 Wolverines on the U-M's 1,000 point list. Michigan smashed the single-season record for three-pointers with 342 total, topping the previous mark of 319 set in In fact, with six three-point field goals against No. 1 seed Indiana (March 11) in the Big Ten Tournament -- including Duncan Robinson's game-tying three-pointer and Kameron Chatman's final dagger -- U-M was able to help set a new mark. Duncan Robinson was ninth nationally shooting 45.0 percent from long range. With 95 total, he was just five shy of becoming the second Wolverine ever to reach 100 in a single season and six from the all-time single season mark of 101 by Louis Bullock set in the season. ONE OF FIVE DONNING... THE BRAND! Michigan is one of five college basketball programs sponsored by the Jordan Brand. In addition to U-M, California, Georgetown, Marquette and North Carolina are the only schools to wear Michael Jordan's signature brand. In fact, U-M's football team is the first ever and only program sponsored by Jordan Brand. Additionally, U-M's women's basketball team is one of three women's programs sponsored -- Georgetown and North Carolina. WHAT HAPPENED TO AUSTIN HATCH? Austin Hatch altered his playing status in the summer of 2015 by moving to a medical scholarship and becoming an undergraduate student assistant. At his request, he asked the coaching staff for the change to concentrate on his academic studies, a decision that would "honor my father." In his only playing season, Hatch appeared in the waning minutes of five games during the season. He attempted two total three-pointers with one against Coppin State (Dec. 22) and one against Rutgers (March 7). With the Coppin State game in hand, Hatch entered the game and sank his first career point on a free throw after being fouled on a three-point attempt, which nearly went in. He was 1-for-3 from the line. The Coppin State free throw was the first "official" stat for Hatch, but it was not the first time he scored. In U-M's only exhibition game of season, Hatch sank a free throw in the waning minutes, but the stats did not count. IT WAS THREE LONG YEARS IN THE TRAINING ROOM (KNOCK ON WOOD) Prior to this season, U-M lost 136 games to injuries over the last three seasons. Michigan had 49 games lost to injury last season -- Spike Albrecht (28; hips), Caris LeVert (21; lower left leg), Derrick Walton Jr. (3; ankle) and D.J. Wilson (2; ankle). Two seasons ago, U-M had 58 games lost due to injuries to LeVert (14), Walton (12) and D.J. Wilson (27). Three seasons ago, U-M lost Mitch McGary for 29 games after he had his season cut short due to back surgery. WHAT HAPPENED TO U-M'S ROSTER SINCE THE 2013 RUN? It's hard to imagine U-M's Final Four run was just four years ago. Just what happened to the starting five? What happened to that squad? Where are they now: > Trey Burke (Washington Wizards); left as sophomore (2013 1st; No. 9) > Tim Hardaway Jr. (Atlanta Hawks); left as junior (2013 1st; No. 24) > Nik Stauskas (Philadelphia 76ers); left as sophomore (2014 1st; No. 8) > Mitch McGary (NBA free agent); left as sophomore (2014 1st; No. 21) > Glenn Robinson III (Indiana Pacers); left as a sophomore (2014 2nd; No. 40) > Caris LeVert (Brooklyn Nets); graduated as a senior (2016 1st; No. 20) National title game hero Spike Albrecht graduated from U-M last year, but moved on to Purdue as a graduate transfer.
