(AP) - As No. 13 Oklahoma started to emerge from a late timeout, coach Sherri Coale started to warn Carlee Roethlisberger that she had four fouls. And Joanna McFarland. And just about everyone. Yet none of her players ever picked up a fifth and final foul, and her Sooners edged past Oklahoma State on Saturday for their seventh straight win in the Bedlam rivalry. Aaryn Ellenberg scored 23 points in her Bedlam debut and Danielle Robinson added 20 points and seven assists as Oklahoma (16-4, 6-1 Big 12) won for the 24th time in the last 25 meetings. Budke put 6-foot-6 freshman Vicky McIntyre, who led Oklahoma State (13-6, 1-5) with 16 points, on the bench with four fouls with 9:33 to play and she stayed there for more than 8 minutes before returning to miss her only shot. Ellenberg put the Sooners ahead to stay with a jumper from the right elbow with 5:11 to play, Robinson followed with a left-handed basket in the lane to make it and Oklahoma held on with free throws the rest of the way. Robinson was 10-for-10 at the line in the second half, hitting a pair with 41.6 seconds left to make it and then another pair after Tiffany Bias had pulled Oklahoma State back within three. The Cowgirls scored 19 points more than they had in any other conference game so far this season but couldn't keep up its torrid 3-point shooting down the stretch. 00 Lakyn Garrison G Sr. 5-5 Wickes, Ark. 3 What 2 Watch 4 OSU is looking to snap an eight-game Big 12 road losing streak that dates back to its win at Texas Tech last year... Toni Young enters the contest with a Big 12-best 13 double-doubles... Tiffany Bias is two assists away from tying Liz Brown for second among OSU s freshman single-season leaders with 119. Associated Press P o l l (Week 16) Learning To Finish During its current four-game losing streak, all four of OSU s losses have come by single digits and the Cowgirls have held leads well into the second half of play. Against Missouri, OSU held an 11-point lead with four minutes go before falling in overtime. At No. 5, Texas A&M, the Cowgirls erased a 16-point deficit and led by one with 6:30 remaining before losing by nine. OSU s contest against Kansas saw the Cowgirls lead for 34 minutes before surrendering the lead for good with 2:26 remaining. In Lubbock, OSU trailed 19-4 before climbing all the way back and led with 6:46 to go before eventually losing by nine. Against Oklahoma earlier this season, OSU led by one with 6:22 to go before winding up with a five-point loss. Four Cowgirls Named To Academic All-Big 12 Squad Four Cowgirls were named to the 2011 Academic All-Big 12 squad, which was announced on Feb. 15. Seniors Lakyn Garrison and Precious Robinson were joined by sophomore Heather Howard on the first team, while junior Carolyn Blair-Mobley was a second-team pick. First-team members must have a grade point average off at least a 3.20, while second-team members range from a GPA. Big Mac Attack Vicky McIntyre has begun to shed the freshman label with OSU in the midst of conference play. The 6-6 rookie scored 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor against Oklahoma on Jan. 29. McIntyre followed with her best performance to date, a 24-point, eight-rebound showing in Hilton Coliseum against Iowa State. The Omaha, Neb., native recorded her first career Big 12 double-double at Texas Tech, finishing with 14 points and eleven rebounds. Her 24-point showing was one shy of the OSU single-game freshman record set in 2007 by Kristin Hernandez against Air Force. Freshman Initiation With freshmen comprising a large chunk of the roster, it is no surprise the Cowgirls have several rookies making an impact. Vicky McIntyre is one of five Big 12 freshmen averaging double figures with her 10.6 points per game and ranks second among league freshmen with her 5.4 rebounds per game. Additionally, she is fifth in field goal percentage at 50.4 percent and first in blocks per game at 2.0. Tiffany Bias currently ranks first among Big 12 freshmen with her 2.1 steals and first at 4.3 assists per game. Record Watch Several Cowgirls have begun to make their mark on the OSU record books. Lakyn Garrison has 96 career 3-pointers and is three away from moving into the No. 8 spot. Toni Young s 16 career double-doubles rank seventh and her 13 double-doubles rank third on the single-season list. Young also ranks eighth on the school s all-time list with her 68 blocks. Vicky McIntyre currently has 55 blocks on the year and ranks third on the single-season chart. 30 For 15 Against Texas Tech, sophomore Toni Young recorded her first career 30-point game, finishing with 30 points and 13 rebounds in OSU s win over the Lady Raiders. Her performance marked the 79th 30-point outing by a Cowgirl in the history of the program. The last point performances came courtesy of Andrea Riley. In fact, prior to Young s 30-point game, the last such showing by a player not named Riley came from Whitney Pegram against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Dec. 11, Budke Hits The Century Mark Six games into his sixth year at OSU, Kurt Budke reached the 100-win mark as the head coach of the Cowgirl program and now boasts a mark of His win total already ranks second among the six head coaches in program history. Last season, he passed Judy Bugher, who won 89 games during her six-year tenure. Dick Halterman holds the top spot on the win chart, winning 350 games from Bias Hits The Century Mark Too With her eight assists against Nebraska, Tiffany Bias became just the third freshman in the last 30 years at Oklahoma State to record 100 assists in a season. The Andover, Kan., native joined Andrea Riley, who had 149 assists in , and Liz Brown, who dished out 119 assists as a rookie in Double The Fun Toni Young has become a double-double machine as a sophomore. After her most recent double-double performance against Texas A&M, Young now has 13 this season, which is four shy of tying for second on the school s single-season list. She is now in seventh place on the school s all-time list with 16 and is four shy of matching Jackie Glosson for sixth place all time. Among her performances was a career-high 30- point outing against Texas Tech and a school-record 22-rebound performance at Missouri. 4 Line Change At times this season, head coach Kurt Budke s substitution patterns have resembled those seen in hockey, with five-in, five-out rotations. Playing time has been distributed up and down the roster. Of the 12 players on the roster, eleven are playing at least eleven minutes per contest. Only three Cowgirls are playing more than 20 minutes per game. A stark contrast to a year, when OSU had two players over 35 minutes a game and seven north of 12 minutes per game. 1 Is The Loneliest Number OSU s first matchup against No. 1 Baylor marked just the second time in the history of the OSU program that the Cowgirls have taken on the top-ranked team in the country. The only other time OSU has squared off against the nation s No. 1 came on Nov. 25, 1989, a loss to Lousiana Tech, in Stillwater. Seven times the Cowgirls have played the No. 2 team in the national rankings. Young Named Big 12 Player of the Week Toni Young was named the Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week by a media voting panel for games played from Dec The honor was the first league honor of the sophomore's career. Young shared the distinction with Teena Wickett of Texas Tech. The 6-2 forward helped OSU to a win over Oral Roberts on Dec. 22. She had her fifth double-double of the year with 25 points and 10 rebounds. The point total matched her career high and she also logged a career high with five steals and had two assists and two blocks in 25 minutes. She went 12-of-19 from the field for a.630 shooting percentage. Two-Headed Point Guard So far the task of filling the shoes of departed point guard Andrea Riley has been handled by OSU s freshman tandem of Tiffany Bias and Carissa Crutchfield. Both players have performed admirably to this point with Bias ranking seventh in the league with her her 4.3 assists per game and seventh with her 2.1 steals per outing, while Crutchfield has been solid running the show as well, dishing out 64 assists. High-Flying Act During Homecoming and Hoops each of the past two years, sophomore Toni Young has shown off her athleticism. The Del City, Okla., native has dunked easily on both occasions, leaving Cowgirl fans wondering if and when she will become the first OSU player to do so in a game. Young s ability to play above the rim should come as no surprise as she tied the national high jump record while attending Del City High School. If she is able to dunk during a game she would join an elite list of women s players. Only seven females have previously dunked in a game. West Virginia s Georgeann Wells was the first, doing it twice in She was followed by North Carolina s Charlotte Smith 10 years later. Tennessee s Michelle Snow had three slams during her career, while Houston s Sancho Lyttle and LSU s Sylvia Fowles each had one. Tennessee s Candace Parker had seven and most recently Baylor s Brittney Griner had four a year ago. Quality Air Time The Cowgirls will see a significant portion of their schedule televised this season. Eleven of the squad s regular-season contests will be broadcast this year. After playing in just two televised contests during head coach Kurt Budke s first season, OSU has seen that number rise dramatically over the past four years. In , OSU played on television seven times before playing in 12 TV games the following year. After playing on television nine times in , the Cowgirls made 14 television appearances last season. OSU is in televised games under Budke. OSU s TV Games Under Budke Six Degrees of Separation Athleticism runs deep not only on the Cowgirl roster, but throughout the families of those on it. A handful of players have bloodlines filled with relatives that have made a name in the world of sports. Tiffany Bias Bias is a distant relative of Len Bias, the former All-American for Maryland and first-round draft pick of the Boston Celtics. Jenni Bryan Bryan s father, Rick, was an All-American on the gridiron for the University of Oklahoma before moving on to a career with the Atlanta Falcons from Her uncle, Steve, also played for the Sooners and played in the NFL for the Denver Broncos. Bryan s brother, Mike, was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Tulsa. Jazmyn Dorsett Dorsett is the daughter of NFL Hall of Fame running back Tony Dorsett of Dallas Cowboys fame. Additionally, her brother, Anthony, played professionally as well for the Tennessee Titans and the Oakland Raiders. 5 Home Away From Home The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M. has produced a pair of significant wins during the Kurt Budke Era. The Cowgirl head coach earned his first win in charge of the program there in 2005 against Idaho in the first round of the UNM Thanksgiving Classic. The Cowgirls returned to the event this season and delivered Budke s 100th win as OSU s head coach in the championship game against New Mexico. The Cowgirls also knocked off the Lobos in The Pit last year to advance to the championship game of the Preseason WNIT. Bias, Young Earn All-Tournament Honors En route to earning their third in-season tournament title under head coach Kurt Budke, the Cowgirls produced a pair of all-tournament team selections at the UNM Thanksgiving Classic. Toni Young and Tiffany Bias both earned the honor. Young averaged 21.5 points and 8.0 rebounds and tallied her fourth double-double of the season in the championship game. Bias averaged 8.5 points and 6.5 assists in the event. Offense By Committee A year ago, OSU s offense centered around Tegan Cunningham and Andrea Riley, the top-scoring duo in the country. This year has seen a drastic change for the Cowgirls. Ten different players have scored in double figures thus far. On four occasions, every Cowgirl suited up has scored as well. In OSU s win over Rhode Island, all 12 players scored and all but two recorded an assist in the game. For Starters The Cowgirls 8-0 start matched its best start under head coach Kurt Budke. OSU started the campaign with eight-straight wins before matching the mark the following year. Both years the Cowgirls made the NCAA Tournament, including their Sweet 16 appearance in The Cowgirls 12-1 mark in non-conference play also matched its best record against non-league opponents, which was set on two previous occasions. Lakyn Land Lakyn Garrison s ability to shoot from well beyond the 3-point line, an area that has become known as Lakyn Land courtesy of her teammates, has been well documented. During her junior year, Garrison tallied 45 3-pointers, the 12th-best single-season total in school history. She currently has 93 threes during her career and is six shy of tying Tegan Cunningham for eighth place on the school s all-time list. Against Duke, Garrison drilled six treys to match the school's single-game mark. Budke led OSU to its first NCAA appearance in more than a decade three years ago as well as the nation s largest turnaround. In 2008, he directed the squad to a 27-win campaign and just its second-ever NCAA Sweet 16. Last year saw the Cowgirls advane to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. During a two-year stay at Allen County, Budke recorded a record before beginning a remarkable run at Trinity Valley Community College. He made six national championship game appearances during his seven seasons with the Lady Cardinal program, winning four national titles during that time. A move to the Division I level and a two-year stint as associate head coach at Louisiana Tech followed. Budke took over the Tech program prior to the season and promptly led the Lady Techsters to a 31-3 record. In three seasons at Tech, he compiled a record of while making NCAA Tournament appearances each season. Overall, the Cowgirls took the second-largest hit statistically in scoring and rebounding in the league. OSU trailed only Nebraska in both categories. The Cowgirls lost 50.2 points and 18.4 rebounds per game from last year s NCAA Tournament team. The six letterwinners lost also ties OSU with Iowa State and Nebraska for the second-highest total. Kansas lost seven players off last year s squad. Youthful Exuberance Of the 12 players on the Cowgirl roster, only three are upperclassmen. OSU s roster is comprised of two seniors, one junior, three sophomores and six freshmen. In fact, the Cowgirls do not have a single player on the roster with more than one season of Division I experience as all three upperclassmen joined the program last year as junior college transfers. Tickets For The Big Dance Last year marked OSU s third NCAA Tournament appearance in the past four years and was the squad s fourth-straight postseason appearance. The Cowgirls will be looking to make school history and earn five consecutive postseason berths for the first time. OSU has only made four-straight postseason appearances on one previous occasion. The Cowgirls played in four-straight NCAAs from Cowgirls Sign High School Quartet OSU added four high school products during the fall signing period. Edmond North product Elizabeth Donohoe was a Super Five pick by The Oklahoman after leading Class 6A in scoring at 20.1 points per game. A first-team all-state pick by both The Oklahoman and Tulsa World, Donohoe also averaged 10.3 rebounds per game. A product of Frisco (Texas) High School, Brittney Hardy averaged 15.3 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game a year ago and is ranked as the 46th-best prospect by the All-Star Girls Report, is No. 63 on the ESPNU HoopGurlz 100 list and is ranked No. 72 by Blue Star Basketball. LaShawn Jones also earned honorable mention all-state honors from The Oklahoman and Tulsa World after averaging 14.0 points per game for Putnam City High School. She was tabbed as a first-team all-conference pick as well as the league's defensive player of the year. Taylor Schippers helped Concordia Lutheran (Texas) High School to a 31-7 mark and averaged 20.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 3.3 steals per contest as a junior. A three-time all-state selection, Schippers connected on 55 percent of her shots from the floor, including 45 percent of her 3-point attempts. OSU In The Big 12 Rankings (Feb. 23) Team Avg.
