He grabbed a key defensive rebound on a Khris Middleton missed three pointer, then made a layup with 33 seconds remaining to cut the lead to one again. After OSU called its final timeout, the Cowboys forced a 10-second backcourt violation on the Aggies, and Dowell went to work again, driving through the lane and attempting a dunk on two A&M defenders. He was fouled on the play, and made both free throws to give OSU a one-point lead. Unfortunately, in an attempt to slow down a driving B.J. Holmes at midcourt, Dowell fouled the Aggie sharpshooter, who proceeded to make both free throws and provide A&M with the one-point win. Olukemi Provides Spark Jéan-Paul Olukemi s spark off the bench earlier this season has elevated him to starter s status. After coming off the bench for the first 16 games, he has started the last 10. During that span, he is playing 30.2 minutes per game while averaging 13.6 points per contest. He s 62-of-77 from the free-throw line, good for 80.5 percent and an average of 7.7 trips to the charity stripe. He also has 13 steals in those 10 games. His 22 points against K-State were the most by a Cowboy off the bench since Byron Eaton scored 25 at Nebraska on March 5, Olukemi scored a career-high 29 points against the Cyclones in his second collegiate start. Brown Gets Starting Nod Freshman guard Markel Brown has started the last eight games for Oklahoma State and has responded with some good numbers. During the first 18 games of the season, he was averaging just 15.6 minutes per game while scoring 4.6 points and grabbing 1.6 rebounds per contest. Since getting his first start at Baylor, he s playing more than 31 minutes per game in eight starts and is averaging 9.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He also has 12 blocks and eight steals during that span. He recorded a career-high 16 points in his first start at Baylor, going 6-of-11 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Brown also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds at Texas Tech in a career-high 39 minutes. Pilgrim Back in Lineup After coming off the bench for the first seven games this season, senior forward Matt Pilgrim moved into the starting lineup for the next 11 contests. He returned to the bench for the game at Baylor, and responded by playing a season-high 31 minutes. The Cincinnati native was back in the starting lineup at Nebraska and is expected to start alongside Marshall Moses for the remainder of the season. He grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds at Texas. With 11 boards against Texas A&M, he recorded back-to-back double-figure rebounding games for the second time in his career. Moses Among the Best Despite playing just seven minutes against Texas A&M due to flu-like symptoms, Marshall Moses still ranks fifth in the Big 12 Conference in rebounding, averaging 7.4 boards per contest. In the last 16 seasons, Oklahoma State has had at least one player ranked in the top 10 in the league in rebounding on 13 occasions. Bryant Reeves led the Big Eight Conference in rebounding in 1995 with his 9.5 rpg. However, since that season, Moses current No. 5 ranking is the highest by a Cowboy. The current Poke ranked seventh last year, averaging 8.1 rebounds per game. Moses Rebounding Machine Marshall Moses became the 13th player in school history to record 600 career rebounds, grabbing 12 at Texas A&M earlier this season. With three boards at Texas, he now has 666 rebounds in his career at Oklahoma State, good for 11th place on the career rebounding list. He needs 78 rebounds to move into the top 10. It is fitting that the milestone came at the line, as he is also one of the most proficient free-throw shooters in school history. At 5-9, Keiton is the shortest player in school history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Others have been close Victor Williams (5-10), John Lucas (5-11), Byron Eaton (5-11) and heights are usually exaggerated to some extent. But Keiton is one of just four players under six-feet tall to score 1,000 career points. OSU scored 44 points in the paint against Iowa State. The Cowboys are allowing just 20.5 points per game in the paint, the lowest average and the widest margin of points since Bench Scoring This season, Oklahoma State s bench is averaging 21.3 points per game, more than 30 percent of the team s total. Against UTSA, Oklahoma State s bench scored 50 of the Cowboys 79 points, the most since the Big 12 formed in Four different players reached double figures off the bench in that game, led by Jéan-Paul Olukemi s 16. OSU s bench scored 63.3 percent of the team s total against the Roadrunners, surpassing the 62.3 percent scored by the bench against Pepperdine on Jan. 3, 2006 (43 of 69 points). Both Alabama and Georgetown joined that elite group earlier this season. Only Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma from the Big 12 Conference can claim that feat. Oklahoma State is now 1,513-1,051 in school history. 30-and-30 For just the fifth time in school history, a Cowboy basketball player has scored 30 or more points in back-to-back games. Marshall Moses scored a career-high 30 points at La Salle and just four days later, bested that mark by scoring 31 against Tulsa. Ed Odom accomplished that feat on two occasions during his senior year ( ). Not only did Marshall Moses score a career-best 31 points against Tulsa, but he did it with a perfect performance from the field. The Cowboy senior was 12-of-12 from the floor, including his first three-point basket since his freshman season vs. Texas A&M. His only miss on the night was a free-throw attempt, as he went 6-of-7 from the charity stripe. 9 Game Notes vs Kansas page 9 Cowboys Sign No. 4 Recruit LeBryan Nash, a consensus five-star recruit who is ranked as high as the No. 4 high school recruit in the country nationally, has signed a National Letter of Intent with Oklahoma State. The 6-7, 215-pound small forward is a Dallas, Texas, native and attends Lincoln High School. Nash is the second-highest ranked recruit to ever sign with OSU in school history, and will be the highest-rated recruit to ever step on the court for OSU. He scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench against the U.S. Virgin Islands in the opening round. A two-time All-State selection by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, Nash was also named an all-area pick in both 2009 and 2010 by the Dallas Morning News. He is a three-time all-conference selection and was named the 2008 Newcomer of the Year by the Morning News as a freshman. As a junior last season, Nash averaged 20.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game, leading the Tigers to a 28-4 record. He has a three-year high school record of The Tigers have advanced to the regional semifinals in each of his three years, making the regional finals in Nash Named All-American LeBryan Nash is one of 24 high school seniors listed on the 2011 McDonald s All-American rosters and will compete for the West Team at the 34th annual McDonald s All- American High School Basketball Games. Nash is one of just two players named to the McDonald s All-American team who have signed with Big 12 schools, joining Texas signee Myck Kabongo from Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev. Nash is also the fourth Cowboy signee in the last seven seasons to be named a McDonald s All-American, joining Byron Eaton and Gerald Green, both McDonald s All-Americans in 2005, and James Anderson, a 2007 Mc- Donald s All-American. The McDonald s All-American games will be played at the United Center in Chicago on March 30. The boys game will tip off at 9 pm CT and be televised on ESPN. Dallas Lincoln Pipeline LeBryan Nash becomes the latest in a recent line of student-athletes to come to Oklahoma State via Lincoln High School in Dallas, Texas. It all started with Byron Eaton half-brother to Nash five years ago. Eaton, a McDonald s All-American, came in with what was ranked as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country in A year later, Cowgirl basketball star Andrea Riley and Cowboy football player Richetti Jones came to Stillwater. Head Coach Travis Ford Travis Ford is in his third season as the head man for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He is just the second coach in school history to lead his team to the NCAA Tournament in his first two seasons in charge of the Cowboys, and his 23 victories in his initial campaign are the second-most wins by a head coach in his inaugural season at Oklahoma State. In just three seasons at the helm of the Cowboys, he has already led OSU to six victories over top-25 opponents, including three wins over top-10 foes. Ford is in his 14 th season as a head coach at either the Division I or II level and has mastered the art of generating successful programs. He began his career at Campbellsville and after a mark in his initial season, he resurrected the team to a 28-3 record the following season. It took a few more years after he took over at Eastern Kentucky, but by his fifth season, the Colonels won 22 games and made an NCAA Tournament appearance. Then at UMass, he went his initial season before back-to-back 20-win seasons his final two years. Ford has compiled a overall record as a head coach, including a mark at the Division I level. He is at Oklahoma State. At OSU, his 64.9 winning percentage ranks as the thirdhighest in school history coach Eddie Sutton finished at 70.9 percent and Mr. Iba won 67.3 percent and Ford s 61 victories are the fifth-most in school history. He needs 17 more wins to move past John Maulbetsch and into fourth place on the career coaching victories list.
